XD Pistol Good Choice?

Got a couple of questions for ya before I can answer that:

Do you have any experience shooting guns?

If so, are you used to the recoil of .45 ACP?

Does it fit your hand comfortably?

Do you find the trigger pull comfortable?

If the answer to all of the above is "yes", then I wouldn't worry about what other people think - it's the right gun for you and that's all that matters.

Now if any of the above are "no"... well, I'd consider trading it in.

If more than one of the above is "no", I'd definitely trade it in![;)]

Otherwise it's a nice solid, dependable gun from what I hear.

I just bought the new XD pistol,.45 ACP 5'. Was this a good choice for my first handgun?

I didn't care for that gun, myself, but that doesn't matter. What matters is: do YOU like it?

I can't do better than EMM to help you think about it. So read and re-read his post and think about whether that's the gun you want.

    And welcome to the boards!

yes i have expierance shooting guns and out of most of the calibers i have shot i am most comfortable with the .45. and i bought the XD becasue its one of the most confortable grips in my hand. The trigger pull is good for me as well. So i guess (for me) its a great pistol, and a good first pistol to start with. thank you for your help and all the warm welcomes.

I have two xd's. They are reliable, simple like glocks, with an extra safety (grip safety) and a more comfortable to me grip angle. As long as you are comfortable with .45acp, an xd .45 is an excellent choice.

I also have the XD 45 5"....I love it, as long as it feels good in your hand thats the first step. I like the balance of the 5" and I found the recoil to be pretty light. You can also feed it any kind of ammo you can find in the stores....its not picky...it will eat it all.

Yes it's a good gun. It's very dependable. And it's a natural pointer. You can't go wrong with that gun. I think you made a wise choice.

that same gun was also my first handgun, and like everyone says, if its comfortable to you, and you enjoy it..... then its a great gun. I have had mine for about a year and have put many different brands of ammo in it and it all goes bang, no problems at all. Go shoot it and have fun.

I have 3 XDs. XD-9 Subcompact, XD-40 service and XD-45 service and love them. Actually the subcompact is my wife's but if I agree to clean it for her she lets me shoot it. [:D]

Maybe cuz I was with him the first time he shot an XD 45? Maybe cuz my post was something akin to an inside joke? Then again, I dunno, you tell me, dude. Am I only allowed to be an ass if I don't know him?

Ah, ah, ah, don't confuse the ownership-cherry with the shooting-cherry. Do you so quickly forget the M1? Or that my shooting-cherry was popped by none other than Dirty Harry's iron? I was slingin' a fat 44 when you were still a tit-leach. Yeah I know I know, I couldn't "handle" it. Then again, it weighed more than I did and I nearly cartwheeled backwards every time I shot it... Ha ha ha, what dumbass would put a 44 in the hands of a kid, especially when the kid could barely get his fingers around the grip? Oh, yeah, it was our uncle...

I think you made a good decision on the XD. I still kinda think you should've held out for the OD one, but hey, your not known for your patience. The only thing that worries me is that we won't get enough range time... Or that your Mossy won't ever get broken in. Lets get some O-O and some slugs and head out to Willy's soon! Eww, wait never mind, he has a tit-leach now...

    hmmmmm, perplexing....

oh, yeah, divebum, you gonna retort or what?
