Sandy, It's a bit off the subject and I don't know if you are interested, but Michael Rubens Bloomberg is the thirty-forth richest man in America with a net worth of five billion dollars. He is a lifelong Democrat who became the Republican mayor of New York City because he needed to bypass the Democrat primary to get elected. He recently became an Independent exploring his chances for a run for President of the United States.
Mister Bloomberg isn't happy with the progress of making private ownership of firearms illegal, so he has undertaken a project to bankrupt FFL dealers in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Georgia.
If you do list your guns on GunBroker, post a link. Some of us might bid. [:)]0 -
Yes I do bought and sold things on ebay.
Thanks for the info. I had absolutely no idea. Bloomberger sounds like an ass if you ask me.0 -

Sandy,
Good! then you know the basics. GB allows HTML in your description, which makes it easier to add lots of pictures, pictures sell.
Like others have said, visit the sellers tutorial:
http://www.gunbroker.com/User/SellerTutorial.asp
If you have questions about a particular piece, post pics here, or in ask the experts, someone will fill you in with the details about it. [:D]

You should research the value of each and every firearm. Firearms have the potential of being priced somewhere from surplus to very expensive collector items that may have historical value. Search the auction side of Gunbroker and see what prices are being asked and what they have sold for. If you ship to a FFL the FFL will enter the firearm into his/her books and do the NICS before selling to the public. 0 -

Sandy;
Generally, this is a slow time of year to sell firearms..prices are depressed thru the summer. A month from now will see prices raising...
That Winchester .22 Hornet could be a model 43..they can bring well up from 500 bucks to a grand, if well taken care of or early serial number. If it is a model 54, more then that...
Just a suggestion, you understand..go buy a Blue Book of Gun Values and find out for yourself what these arms are worth.
Nothing breaks my heart more then a widow selling off cherished arms of a deceased for pennies on the dollar out of ignorance of values. Your grandmother cannot realize full retail value of those arms because of wishing to despose of them quickly..but there may well be rare pieces that are worth big bucks.0 -

Yes it is a model 43. I do think I am going to go buy one of those bluebooks if she doesn't. Thank you.0 -
Sandy, if you get in touch with Locust Fork here on the forum and send her a list of the makes/models/calibers of the guns you have, and pictures showing any blemishes (or lack there of) in the finish, I'm sure that she'll tell you what the reasonable asking price for all of them would be. 0 -

Sandy read what fishermanben said REAL WELL! about the price a dealer MAY offer...50% MAY be generous, for him to offer, so beware.
This is not to say a dealer is going to rip you but, they will be buying for RESALE FOR the MOST PROFIT so they are going to offer you less than an individual that intends the gun for their own use.
The auctions and the shipping is no big deal, sure not enough of a big deal to get maybe 50 cents on the dollar for your guns!
Selling them individually is your best bet for getting the most$$$ for them. AT least use GB to find the market value for ones you have. A good way is to find the exact model in as close to the same condition as what you have, and throw it into your "watch list"...then see what it sells for, or if it gets bids, or sells.
Just because a gun may have "X" starting bid, does not mean that's what it's worth! Research, study, learn your gun(s)!
You will find a WIDE variance in prices on the same mod in comaparable condition...so try the watch list thing...if the gun your watching doesn't get any bids...it's may be priced to high but, right now is not exactly the "sellers" hot time of year, buyers market right now. BUT! That is about to change w/fall right around the corner and Christmas not far behind. Say, if you decide not to go the quick "you loose!" selling to a dealer route, when you list...post a link here to what you have up for sale...believe it or not...some of us do but guns...LUCK!...any Colt 1911's????? [:p]

This is my plan so let me know what you guys think.
I talked to a gun dealer who is willing to come to the house to look at the guns so I don't have to carry them around. I figure this way I will know at least the lowest I could possibly get for them. I told him on the phone that I would not make decision the day he comes so not to expect one.
My friends husband and Brother in law are going to come down and check things out so they can post a list at their hunting and gun club. It will include a link to the auctions that I list on GB. I am hoping that works well so I don't have to worry about shipping.
I am going to send a list to Locust Fork and get her opinion and ideas on pricing.
And I still have to get pictures and a list of the ammo.....
Let me know if I forgot anything...
Thanks.....0 -
You can also get an online subscription to Blue Book here,....

Sandy thant sounds like a good plan as far as the shipping goes its not that big of a thing for the long guns but the pistols are a little more of a headache and would be better to let a ffl do the xfer for you on them because the usps wont let you unless you have a ffl so you have to use ups or fedx and they charge big $$$ for shipping them.]taz
Ps. dont forget to post a link over here.

Sandy;
Way to go, lady..you are a winner anyway I look at it. You got a smart mouth..and I enjoy every post you throw the crap back at the doubters !!
Stay around and trade insults...we don't talk much guns in this forum, anyway !!
I thought about Locust Fork..she is good people..but hesitated to volunteer her. She is pretty sharp...and not afraid to say "I don't know"...unlike most knuckle dragging macho males behind the counters of gun shops...
That 43 is a nice old rifle...Why don't you get it and learn how to shoot ?[:D][:D] Hint/hint....
Ain't hardly nothing sexier then a woman squinting down a barrel of a rifle....(just a bit of my OWN knuckle draggin', here...)0 -

You have a lot of good advice here. I look forward to seeing what kind of gems your grandfather has in his collection.
Make sure that any firearms that you handle have all of the fingerprints wiped clean with a lightly oiled rag. It'd be a real shame if your grandpa took real good care of them, and you didn't know that just touching a firearm, and then putting it away can leave a permanent mark in the finish.
