You will probably get a lot more money if you put them up for auction here. They will also go to legal buyers since they have to be transferred through a dealer. Once they go into a dealers log book you don't need to worry about the future owners.

Yes, I seems a bit strange.

Might I ask what part of the nation you are from? You could state "Western Nebraska" or such. We might be able to suggest or recommend a dealer to help you sell on GB.com.

If I did not know the guns enough to accurately describe them, or was not internet savvy enough to sell on the internet, I would find a local dealer that is experienced in selling on GB.com. I would negotiate a commission to list them on the internet. If it's a collection, they can help market each individual gun.

THis strategy would probably bring you a higher price than selling them wholesale to a local shop.

I'd proceed with extreme caution on this post. It sounds like a setup to me for either a scam or some sort of sting operation.

    Sorry if it is legit.

slipgate, it's good to be a little paranoid, but you're getting close to abusing the privilege there bud. If you don't do anything illegal, Big Brother can't sting you. [:D]

Sandy: Welcome to the board. You probably already know this, but if you sell them to a dealer, you will get "below wholesale" prices. It's more of a pain to sell them one by each, but you will get a better return.

Another option would be to see if a local shop would take them on consignment...

Wow...Unfortunately if that were true my life would be a lot easier then it is trying to figure this all out. I have contacted a dealer in my area and am waiting on a call back from him. I am hoping he wants it all at a fair price so I can just be done with it.

A dealer will probably only offer you 70-50% of what they're worth. He's got to stay in business. Also, if you don't know him...well, would you give a fleet of antique autos to a used car salesman that you did not know hoping that he'd give you a "fair price"?

It's easier than it may seem.

If you'd like to talk, feel free to email me, and I'll give you my phone number. We can help you list these guns on gunbroker, and even advise you on shipping.

I can see Slipgate's concerns. Seems to be moving rather quickly to me.

11:16:24 AM "HI. I need help..... I know nothing about guns..."

11:36:33 AM " I will check out the auction and the list of dealers."

11:54:31 AM "I have contacted a dealer in my area and am waiting...."

Now I am not saying one way or the other if it is a legit ask and answer session. Whatever the case may be. I hope it turns out for the good. This is the third such post I have saw on three different boards within the past month where someone in "Virgina" was getting rid of a firearm collection to pay Grand dad or moms taxes.

Their is a blue book of gun values, get a hold of one so you will have a idea of their worth, Also talk to some of your grandfathers friends, Im sure he had friends that hunted with him and also went shooting with him. GOOD LUCK. I am not in to good of health, My Mrs will have the same problem, except I have a few friends that will help her out. The gun dealer in this town is NOT TO BE TRUSTED.

OK let me see is I can give some information to help with some of your concerns. I am from Northwest Pennsylvania. I am 32 and a WAHM. Since I work at home from my PC that is why I am able to answer quickly. My grandfather passed away 2 1/2 years ago and the guns went to my dad. My dad passed away 2 weeks ago so now my grandma has the guns back.

I do have a list of about 20 of the guns that tells me the manufacturer, caliber, model, and some serial numbers. My grandfather made up this list years ago so there are a lot they are not on there. I am sure I can probably find the information on them if it is stamped on there somewhere.

Again thanks for the helpfulness. I do understand the concerns that some have and I feel like an idiot asking all these questions but this is just something I was never interested in and have no idea where to begin.

Please ask anything you want to know.

I like her. She has attitude.

Selling a collection to the first local dealer would be the top of the list of how not to sell a grandfather's collection. COnsignment with commission with someone that sells on GB sounds wiser. Locust Fork is doing a similar consignment right now.

How do we know "Sandy" isn't a certain someone in LA that is banned for life from here but keeps coming back?

The person helping her list them doesn't really have to be in Northern Penn. "Sandy" could give someone, such as Fishermanben, the list and pictures. He does the marketing on GB. Sandy, as the owner, does the shipping to the buyer's FFL. Ben advises her on how to ship. I could work.

FFL is not required to sell here.

Selling for someone else is not illegal, just buying for someone else.

So, SANDY, what did he have in his collection?

  • Sav99
We've seen these type of post before. Every couple of months someone finds GB and asks for help selling family firearms. If they go through the the auction side and ship FFL to FFL then there can be no problems.

Yeah, perhaps. But you know Bloomberger is doing everything in his power to illegitimize guns and gun sites. It would be easy for him to setup this way. Claim naiveness, ask for help, at some point perhaps just suggest that, "why don't you just buy all the guns from me and make all the sale". Most (all) people on this site are too smart for that, but you know the level of stupidity you are dealing with in the NY gungrabbers.

Again - I apologize if I am wrong.

First, sorry for the loss of your father and grandfather. Second, don't be so quick to sell the guns unless this is the only way to pay some of the taxes, and or bills.

The reason I say is don't be so quick to sell them is because I am one that likes to see items such as firearms stay in the family as heirlooms. Just because you don't care anything for them doesn't mean everybody else in the family feels the way you do. Is there any other family that would/could enjoy them? A neice, nephew or grandson, or granddaughter might really appreciate having some of them once they become of age. Just a thought.

If and when you do get them on here for auction be sure to come here and post a link to the auctions.

slipgate, Bloomberg has already demonstrated that evidence doesn't matter one way or the other with him. If he decides to sue you, you are going to get sued. Bloomberg is illegal in Virginia now because of his recent shenanigans. We enacted a special law just for Bloomberg. [:)]

I still contend that if you don't do anything illegal, there is nothing Bloomberg or anybody else can do to hurt you legally. Of course with his bucks he can bankrupt you, but he doesn't need evidence for that.

If I had the Yankee Dollars (I don't) to buy all of Sandy's guns, I could do it without violating any laws and it wouldn't be much trouble.

I did see a couple on the list I might bid on if she lists them on GunBroker. [:)]

Slipgate.. I do understand your concern. No need to keep apologize that you are wrong. I am a big girl and can deal with it. BTW I have no idea who the hell Bloomberger is.

A friend on mine's brother in law is real big into guns and hunting. He is going to come check them out and tell me what is what. So depending on his schedule I will probably list them next week once I figure out how and where I can ship them from.

matwor.. The guns aren't mine to make that decision. They are my grandmas and she wants them gone. There really isn't anyone in the family that wants them.
