    Hi Gang,
I think you fellows have seen a few more sunrises than I have. If I remember correctly, cigarettes were 50 cents a pack and gas was somewhere around 60 cents a gallon. The year was 1977

When I was 21 Copenhagen was $1.25, now its $3.50+ a can. Im glad I dont dip much, the only time I do is when I am on Duty and I cant imagine not having it. A can last me 3 days on average. But in a yrs time that adds up.

Nah, Zipperzap - I was Seventeen in 1969, in Panama City, Florida, where they had a "Gas War" between the only two retailers in town - it was only 0.19/gal till they realized that we would pay more...I think the usual price was around $0.25. I cheated!

    When I was seventeen
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for small town girls
    And soft summer nights
    Wed hide from the lights
    On the village green
    When I was seventeen

    When I was twenty-one
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for city girls
    Who lived up the stair
    With all that perfumed hair
    And it came undone
    When I was twenty-one

    When I was thirty-five
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for blue-blooded girls
    Of independent means
    Wed ride in limousines
    Their chauffeurs would drive
    When I was thirty-five

But now the days grow short
Im in the autumn of the year
And now I think of my life as vintage wine
    >from fine old kegs
    >from the brim to the dregs
And it poured sweet and clear
It was a very good year

    Thank you, He Dog.
Sinatra's rendition of "It Was a Very Good Year" is one of the greatest popular songs ever recorded.

I was watching a special on Sinatra and they showed him recording this song. He had a live orchestra, about 20 musicians, in the studio. Sinatra always liked to record before a live audience, so he had about 15 invited guests sitting there watching.
He did it in one take. That was the best 4 minutes and 12 seconds of tv I ever saw.

When I was 17 in 1977 I could get a six pack of beer, go and pay to get into the drive-in theater. (notice I said pay to get in, as most kids snuck in). And enjoyed a large cheese pizza while watching the movie for all of $4.95. The good ol days!

When I was seventeen it was, for the most part, 1980. Can't say much more than that with any certainty. A little Charlie Daniels explains:

"Those two years flow together / Like whiskey over ice / Meltin' into mem'ry / Like someone else's life / I'm glad to say I've come around / But if I could have one wish / I'd like another try at twenty-five -- or was it twenty-six?"
