Ever have an accidental discharge ?

I did once. When I was 14 I loaded 2 shell's into a 12 gauge double barrel Boita when I closed up gun, bottom barrel fired and blowed a hole in the ceiling of the hallway of the house. Said gun was found to have worn sear and had to be fixed, after ceilling was repaired! Needless to say I never loaded a gun in the house again.

    OK.......I'll edit this to confess. Once in the NRA State Pistol Championships in Tucson, in the .45 match, we were getting ready for Slow Fire. I released the slide on my 1911 and it went full auto. Emptied the five rds in no time. Shot the corner off my gun box. Very scary....[:0][:0]

    I had a trigger job done on my M70. When I had it at the range I pulled on the trigger with the safety on, released the trigger, then flipped the safety off.....BANG. Glad I followed basic safety sense and had it pointed at the berm. Scared the crap outta me. I got that fixed right away. Also, it made for a easily remembered and non-destructive safety lesson. I don't think I'll ever forget it!

    I've had unintended discharges before.[;)] None of them were accidental because it was my fault for having my finger where it should not have been. It's happened more times than I care to mention. I'm lucky I haven't shot myself in the leg or foot. I've finally broken that habit and my finger stays where it should be.

    The HK VP70 tends to do a double-tap when it gets hot. I've had it happen to me a couple of times on 2 different VP70s.

    No biggie, it just pops off another round (in a quick 2 shot burst).

    Stupid is as stupid does. In Vietnam I was dicking-around with my .38. Working the hammer, then BLAM!!! Major was not pissed. Just relieved noone was hurt. Learned my lesson. Joe

    Ditto SW357MAG. I've had a couple of unintended discharges but fortunately no physical damage occurred. Just mental butt kicking. Also a couple of mechanical issues that caused the gun to fire when the safety was released

    Witnessed a guy shoot another guy point blank at the drag races once too!!!On purpose is a lot more scary, let me tell you!!!

    One time my finger slipped off the hammer on my henery and it went off...not good, no one was hurt thank God

    Almost shot myself in the foot with my grandfather's old single shot 22. It was abused some on the farm and if you're not careful when you close the breach the hammer will fall. Now if you follow a series of steps you don't have to worry about that. I just hope I rember the steps as its been a few years since I've shot it. When I do I hope I don't have to start a "I shot myself thread"[;)]

    With my 10/22 pointed downrange. I had already done a trigger job on it.
    I didn't have it up to my shoulder yet and bumped the trigger. It went off. I never use the safety on that gun except if i'm putting it away (empty) or handing it loaded to someone.

    A friend of mine was deer hunting and slammed the bolt closed on MN Russian and it went off and hit a full Propane tank. About wet his pants and he was lucky it didn't penetrate the tank but a nice dent.[:D][:D][:D]

    My first pistol was a RG 66. It was loaded with 22 mag HP, in a holster and belt hanging on the vertical gun rack. I was 15 at the time (1973) and I bumped the rack and it fell. As I reached to grab it, it hit on the hammer and went off. My arm was outstretched and it hit mid bicept, hit the bone and wound up in my back. When it hit the bone it clinched the hollow point shut and the twist of the rifling spun the bullet to the outside of my shoulder into my back. If the twist had been the opposite direction it would have ended up in my right lung. Fortunate? YES! Stupid? YES! Lesson learned? YES- don't keep a round under the hammer!

    Yes five or six that I can remember over about 60 years.
    The bottom line to this is to always be aware of where a muzzle is pointed whenever you handle a gun.
    I believe if you handle guns and ammo long enough you will become complacent or distracted and sooner or later you're going to have an A.D..
    I cringe at skeet and trap ranges where shooters rest their muzzles
    on the tips of their shoes.
    A lot of ADs happen with "empty" guns.

    You mean a "negligent discharge" don't you?

    Nope, never have. I am meticulous in following safety practices without fail.
