Ever have an accidental discharge ?

I did once. When I was 14 I loaded 2 shell's into a 12 gauge double barrel Boita when I closed up gun, bottom barrel fired and blowed a hole in the ceiling of the hallway of the house. Said gun was found to have worn sear and had to be fixed, after ceilling was repaired! Needless to say I never loaded a gun in the house again.

    To complete the story I started here, After the incident I asked my father "why he never ripped me a new one for the hole in the ceiling", his response was that after the look on my face he did not think there was anything he could say that I did not already learn that day. Like NUNN said it was extremely sobering and also like IT496 stated I have tryed to be meticulous of my handlilng of arms. It has been 22years since that AD and I hope to never see another.

    I have not had one but a buddy did.

    Jeff wanted a hand gun but his wife was very anti-gun. Jeff and I went to a gun show to find him a nice handgun, the idea was we were both gonna look and then get him a good value for his money, about $100 if I remember, in 1977. He ended up buying (2) .380 Mausers in a box. Kind of p'd me off cause I was working in a Smith Model 10 and he ended up with 2 parts guns.
    Late that evening he came by the house and asked if he could stay for a couple of days.
    Seems he assembled 1 pistol out of all the parts he had. Did this in the bedroom while the wife was watching TV with the kids. He thought he had it so he loaded a mag, inserted it and cycled the whole mag through it. He got brave, refilled the mag, inserted it, took off the safety and racked the slide. Pistol emptied the magazine into the dresser when it fired full auto. Wife threw him out of the house, guess she was ticked about the extra holes in her bras and panties.
    I laughed so hard I almost cried.
    Have been around a few other accident discharges but that one was the most note worthy and funniest by far.

    yes, had an "indoors" accidental discharge once...but the girl's Aunt Flo came to town later that month, so it was OK.."thrills & spills"[:p]

    Nope not yet. I've made a habit out of making sure there's nothing in it before I even do anything with it.

    once...walking back to camp with a loaded 30-30.......saw a deer on my walk and cocked the hammer. Decided not to shoot did not decock. Got about 40 yards from camp and a deer jumped out in the road in front of me started to raise rifle and BOOM right into the ground. scared the bejesus out of me, the deer, and EVERYBODY at camp.

    A very close call once... repeatedly showing a buddy how to put a cartridge in the chamber of a Glock while it is dissasembled and then reassemble it with hammer down on a live round. Just "pinch" the slide and it would cock...

    *Always* double check, *Always* keep action open, *Always* keep it pointed in a safe direction

    Twice. Never been so humbled in my life. Fortunately, my acute fear of muzzles had them pointing in a safe direction.

    One was a .22 revolver in a closet. My ears ring just thinking about it. I still have the antique oak dresser, in the other room, with the bullet hole in it's back.

    Getting ready to clean my XD and jacked the slide and a live round flys out. Close, but no cigar......BTW the military calls them "negligent discharges" now.

    shooting a .22 pistol out in the boonies, I thought I emptied the mag, no slide hold back for an empty mag so the hammer was still cocked. walking back to my friend, I just pointed it off to the left side and pulled the trigger to decock it. almost shot myself in the elbow. scared the hell out of me cuz I really thought it was unloaded. ...and I was thinking of doing something crazy like pointing it at my head and pulling the trigger because it's "unloaded", but I thought naahh, that's too unsafe. learned my lesson: never, never never do stupid stuff with a firearm.

    paintball guns a.d. too. shot my finger point blank with a paintball gun dinking around (it's only a paintball gun, right?) hit it so hard blood was coming right out of the skin like it was sweat. ouch.

    one AR I bought, good thing I function checked it dry before actually taking it to the range, you pull the trigger and the hammer falls, rack the slide, then you let off the trigger (normal sequence of events) but if you let off too slowly, it falls again. that would be a double shot. got it fixed before doing anything else with it.

    ...and then there was the time the potato launcher wouldn't fire, I took the lid off the back and looked in to see if the clicker was making a spark, FOOM singed my eyebrows.

    Once, and I will never forget it. 1979 was the year, the gun was a Remington Rand 1911A1 .45 war gun. The day after I bought it for $275 I was showing it to a friend. Luckily I had it pointed to the sky and was outdoors.

    Three safety features and it still went bang when I did not intend for it to. I sold the gun the following week for $250 and I told the buyer about the AD, ND or whatever you want to call it. To me it was an LD (last discharge), because I unloaded that thing and put it up for sale immediately.

    I was very young back then and looking back I think the gun had been worked on in the worse kind of way. It was very loose and fast.

    In the service the man I inherited the Div. small arms shop from was due to rotate back to the States in a month. We had a bet on who could convert the 1911A1 to full auto before he left.
    I won but my conversion was limited. It couldnt stop before the mag was empty.
    Anyway, we were proving it out and the sear actuator slipped in front of the fixed trip instead of behind it while I was charging it with a loose open grip. It went BRRRIP spraying in every direction.
    My buddy dove off an embankment and was not hit.I played with it till a friend in my outfit whose brother in the AF needed a 45 off the record. He remarked on the curious hole in the frame over the sear base but I brushed it off. His part of the deal was to fly some boxed goodies to Alaska and remail them to my shocked parents. I wish I still had those goodies.
    There's a black and white photo firing the gun which I'll post when I find it.

    About 30 years ago a bunch of us guys were in the living room at my cousins house, and one of the guys pulled a PPK out from under the seat cushion on the couch and asked my cousin if it was loaded. My cousin then takes the gun from my friend and says "no it's not loaded", as he was pointing it at a lamp and pulling the trigger. Bang! The bullet went through the lamp and out through the front window! You could have heard a pin drop in that room, we were all shocked, and thankful nobody got hurt!
    Ever since then, I check everytime I handle a gun!
