loging back in
ok ok ....this place is to addictive to stay away from.[:D]
got all the cattle moved back closer to home that was not close to home, so thats a relief in this country having couple hundred hd of cattle 30 miles from home nearing Dec with no protection but a barb wire fence from here to the north pole gets me little on edge. though standing out in and gathering cattle up at 5 Deg with 20 mph wind is not real fun.....might start breaking a 1/4 of sod here soon if the ground doesn't freeze up to bad...aint enough money in raising cattle anymore.

Welcome back
Your dreams were your ticket out
Welcome back
To that same old place that you laughed about
Well the names have all changed since you hung around
But those dreams have remained and they've turned around
Who'd have thought they'd lead ya
(who'd have thought they'd lead ya)
Back here where we need ya
(back here where we need ya)
Yeah, we tease him a lot 'cause we got him on the spot
Welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back
Welcome back
We always could spot a friend, welcome back
Welcome back
And I smile when I think how you must have been
And I know what a scene you were learning in
Was there something that made you come back again
And what could ever lead ya
(what could ever lead ya)
Back here where we need ya
(back here where we need ya)
Yeah, we tease him a lot cause we got him on the spot
Welcome back

...Good to hear from you doc. We ag types need to stick around to refute the idea of farmers as wealthy, parasitic hogs at the subsidy trough. I've been helping move about 400 head off federal land back home for the winter. Ain't no fun like having 10# of frozen cow chit on your boots.....[:D] 0 -
Hi Doc!!! Longtime no see!!! 0 -

eh, you guys have fun with those cow-calf operations. Me, I will stick to raising steers. We have about 2000 of them around here, from 150# up to 1400#. You don't know fun until you put a 1200# steer behing a 8 foot gate to treat him. By yourself no less. [:D]
Boss says there ain't no money in beef, but we still keep raising them. [:)]

Welcome back, CowDoc.
Being a city boy, I really enjoy your post. Gives me a feel for life on the farm. I think I was a farmer in another life.0 -
Come back when ya can't stay so long!
Glad to see the name "cowdoc" in the upper left hand corner of my screen.

Feeder steer prices seem to be a little disproportionately low when compared to the price of corn and wheat.0 -

I purely can't help it..turning sod over always grieves me. Seems more natural to see a cow critter walking it...
Reality rears its ugly head, sometimes...and we do what we must.
The job I enjoyed most in this world was running steers..I spent 10-12 years at it..back when the world was younger.
Horse-back most days, in the fall/winter..carrying a .45, or a .22..as the mood struck me...
You get to where you can spot a sick steer at a glance across the pasture..and a horse running up to the fence in the morning seemed to carry a higher satisfaction factor then a pick-up does....
Cowdoc, welcome back..and take a moment now and agin to gaze around you at all that wonder you live in.
'O' degrees is a beatch..but the warm satisfaction of putting those cows out of harms way makes it alright.0
