Burma is one of the most interesting places I have ever been to.
The people are beautiful and the closed off country is like a time warp into the 19th century.
It was weird to see places I stood on the news.
I do not disagree with the right for freedom but the ruling Junta insist they want to keep the corruption of the rest of the world out and having been there I can testify they actually have a point.
Interesting this cry for freedom came from the outrage over higher fuel cost!

Swedish diplomats estimates at least 35...So that would mean including all that not could be confirmed 100 5 That maybe 100 died .Tomorrow maybe 200...the day after that...Total hell possibly
Update : Right now 84 % of the Swedish people supports a boycott of the Olympics coz of this....But i hope ofcourse for some stronger actions...Well the chinese is friends w them...Maybe the chinese at least could do sumthin good here....0 -

I think the USA should not be involved in any peacekeeping operation beyond North America. Too much money and resources are being squandered to help people who don't want to be helped. I say, pull the US out of Europe, out of Asia, out of Africa, and concentrate on improving North America. 0 -
Therre are few Muslims in Burma so unlike our extended vacation in Iraq, we can't afford to spend time, money or lives there. 0 -

If i had some real influence i would send a selected assortment of jets over Burma to make the point that this is very serious.
It might be all it takes...Othervise the message from the US would be that they dont really care or are as fast to see the real implications

Burma has the most incredible lacquerware ever seen. What I got for $20.00 US was unreal, I almost felt guilty, almost!!
Considering they take many hours to layer the lacquer then cut into it revealing the different layers of paint to form intricate patterns that are true works of art.
It takes many hours to make a simple thing that can sell for a dollar or less! It can take a week to make a ten dollar item.
One other writer (we were not suppose to be in the country and entered as tourist) bought two large suit cases and filled them with lacqureware.
All hand made stuff was unique to any country I have ever seen. I am not a souvenir person but I bought more things there than any country I have ever been.
I bought this 6 inch across Gong made out of brass and etched with many Burmese figures. I spent a lot; 5 bucks.
We were headed up the Ayeyarwady River and there was this huge wooden barge looking thing. Looked like Noah's ark, no kidding. It was being built on this small island and I asked how they intended to get it off seeing there was no such means and it was huge. They said when the flood comes it will float by itself.
They were still salvaging WWII landing craft out of the river to refurbish. (The Brits scuttled them in the Jap invasion) That is a common means of transport and they charge up on a beach and unload trucks for local markets.
The gentle souls of the people was unreal. My cousin was a missionary in Penang Malaysia (I can say that now that he is gone) and when I went there to visit he told me he was sneaking into Myanmar for evangelizing to convert them to Christianity. Being a Christian myself I had to tell him the Buddhist people in Burma treated each other far more like Christians than we Christians so they will have to convert then backslide considerably in behavior to fit in as Christians.
We touched down on a local flight at a remote airstrip and they still had the Jap bunkers around the airfield untouched.
While all people deserve freedom I can assure you we will certainly move in and corrupt these people. That does not condone what the military rulers are doing but while they deny freedom they also prevent much corruption and if you went there and saw the people you to would wonder if our freedom will open Pandora's box on these mostly gentle and innocent people.

freedom is something a people has to fight for themselvs,
the military government needs to go , but the U.S. should not deliver it. the monks outnumber the military there by 100,000 bodies
add the civilians who are fighting along side the monks, and a game plan , myanmar could be breathing free air in no time.

Anyway thousand of monks have been rounded up taken out in to the djungels and have been killed now.According to Swedish informationsources.

Why does Bush and the U.S. have to lead the way. When we try in other places, all you Euro's call us the bad guys.
