As a teen I was horsing around at a boy scout camp. My "buddy" was on the other side of a small creek, and someone had tied a rope to an overhanging branch so a person could swing right across. I had a garden rake, the kind with the teeth pointed down at a 90 degree angle, and I started goofing around, saying that I was going to hold him off while he tried to swing over like Errol Flynn.

Never one to refuse a challenge, he takes a running start and swings across, and I sort of loosely hold the rake out--I wasn't going to hit him with it or anything--and with his full force and a strong kick he smashes his feet into the bottom of the rake and the end of the handle right back into my left nut.

The pain is simply indescribable. I collapse and puke all over the place. I then have to walk an incredibly painful mile back to camp, and then off I go to emergency surgery to repair the ruptured testicle. To this day I can't look at one of those rakes without shivering.

I was taking a 2 wheeled dolly out of the back of my pickup - wheels first. Dropped the wheels (pnuematic) on the ground and the handle jumped up and hit me in the mouth. Only injury was a split lip, but it sure got my attention!

    Ax in my thigh.

    Doug

Which was worse,......the above, or some of your previous marriages?[:D]

Mark - The ax was an accident - the marriages are somewhat like self-immolation - nobody to blame but myself.

Needed to get a thumb tack out of the wall,to lazy to get a chair so I took an empty 10gallon fish tank, turned it over, put one foot on the side of it braced my hand against the wall to pull the other foot foot to balance on each side,,well one foot slipped and went right through the bottom of the fish tank, pulled my foot out to noticed a piece of glass sticking out of my leg, pulled it out and it started gushing blood.
Turned out i hit an artery and required 2 1/2 hour of surgery to sew it up..I was 20 when I did this

Split my left thumb down the center from the nail end with a circular saw, trying to cut way too small a piece of wood. Should have had a table saw, but I didn't. It looked horrible, and I was really surprised that it grew back and looked nearly normal again. The blade did nick the bone a little, and it hurts when it gets cold.

Drilling a piece of sheet metal on the drill press at home and was holding it with my hand. 8 stitches in tow fingers. The worst thing about it, I knew better!

Oh, forgot the M1 thumb even after dad showed me how to keep it from happening. Man, That hurt, and I learned once and for all after that!

Sorta shot myself in the forehead. Several years ago I was working on a Ruger 10/22 trying to figure out why the bolt would not completely close on a ctg. Somehow while there was a live ctg in place my hand holding the bolt slipped and when the bolt hit the ctg it fired. Unsupported ctg so the back blew off. I saw a flash before the bang and tried to duck. Back 1/3 of the ctg flew off and hit me on the left side of forehead. And unburned powder and brass flakes went in my eye. Wife had to take me to the ER to have piece of ctg removed and eye cleaned out. Still have a scar and a small depression from the wound. [V] [xx(] [:(!] Danged dumb trick.

Two--sailors dive into barely 4 feet of water when I was 11 or 12. My neck still hurts from that one. And cutting the end of my finger off with a table saw. Then there were my car accidents, breaking bones, crushing my foot, slicing my fingers with knives... I think I'm accident prone.

-I have no idea why I'm admitting this; don't ask for details: I was chasing a cow one night with a spear, stepped into a squirrel hole, went flying (flung the spear away in mid-flight), crashed hard onto the ground, and dinged up my left knee.

Was using an electric pallet jack at work. Instead of following it or standing on the back of it, I was pulling it towards me[V]. Lost control of it and before I could get out of the way or hop on it I pinned my ankle between the jack and a pallet full of alcohol. Luckily I wear high steel-toed boots and not lowtop or shoes like we can wear, or I probably would have ended up with some severed tendons. Just ended up with a pretty bad gash and 6 stitches from the metal valence on the bottom of the jack.

I dropped a knife and without looking I went to pick it up. The blade was sticking straight up and went through the palm of my hand, I was lucky that I didn't cut a tendion.

I was cleaning a bainite katana. Phone rang. I put the sword on the table. Went to answer phone. Came back... walked past the blade.

It cut cleanly through the jeans I was wearing. I HEARD it cut my jeans, looked down... no pain, so I figured, "Damn... need to buy some new jeans now..."

Few minutes later, my leg feels wet. I look at it... the entire front of my leg below the cut is soaked red. There was no pain throughout, and even while it was healing, I could press my fingers to it as hard as I could without any pain at all.

The sword didn't have the slightest hint of blood on it.

I was 11 years old shooting my 1861 navy black powder pistol. With the barrel pointed up I cocked the hammer and it slipped. Nothing like burnt powder to the eyes. I wear safety glasses now.

Just back from a camping trip. The next morning, the wife says: "We need to get the milk out of the camper, before it spoils."

So, I go out and note that I have to move the camper before I can open it, as it is a tent camper, and to get inside, you have to basically open it all up and extend the ends. I am barefoot, and the driveway is nearly level, so I decide to push the camper around on the concrete till I can get it open easily.

As I pull on the camper tongue, I decide that it is beginning to get away from me on the nearly invisible incline, and stand erect to move the other way. The Nosewheel of the trailer (maybe eight inch diameter hard plastic) rolls onto my foot, crunching the pinky toe, then the next one and stopping momentarily on the middle toe. At this moment, my brain gets the signal that bad things are going on down there, and reflex requests a rapid exit from that area. I withdraw my foot, leaving most of the skin of the middle toe under the wheel. I hop around splattering blood everywhere, saying a few choice words.

Went to the ER, where they had me sit in a wheelchair for five hours, bleeding on the floor till there was a nearly three foot puddle of blood. Finally the Doc says: "Wrap it up, there is really nothing we can do."

That little toe, with the skin of the "Fingerprint" skin missing, took over a year and a half to heal, and basically pushed me to retire from work early at age 51. I was off work for six months for it to heal (with full pay) then went back to work for five months, but the toe was still not right/was infected, so got another six months off to get it as good as it can be. Doc refused to amputate it. Work paid half pay for the second six-month period. I then went in for a few weeks, and then retired.

    Wear your safety shoes!!!

    1) pulling my toenail off while trying to put pants on in a hury

    or

2)cutting two fingers in the span of 10 min while at AT, hell the medic was Cute[:D]

...A Sunday afternoon, a few beers, wearing shorts, and a chainsaw. I was only going to cut for 5 minutes or so. Mr. Saw meets Mr. shin and calf. Meat and fat hanging from the saw chain.
...I didn't feel like sitting in the ER for hours, so I cut off all the ragged tissue, poured a bottle of alcohol over it and sort of taped it together as best as I could. I thought there was too much tissue missing to get it stitched. The scar looks like a shark bite. That makes for a better story anyway.

I was slicing a sheet of ply with a skill saw, to fit in the bed of a little atv trailer i had fabricated. I was slicing it on top of the trailer and as i pushed the saw through the ply the trailer started to roll away. i let go of the ply with my left hand and stepped over the tounge of the trailer to keep it in place all along i had my finger on the trigger of the saw and when i went to grab the play again i mistakenly wrapped my left hand right around the blade of the saw.

8hrs in the ER. 2 days later 6 hrs in surgury, 24 stiches followed by 4 wks rehab.

Turkey season: had just worked a midnight shift, came home grabbed the gun, and hopped on the 4whlr. Was out in the middle of nowhere and came upon an old clearcut. An old clearcut is quite the misnomer, as they're usaully so grown-up with saplings that you can hardly drve a rabiit through one.

I figured i xould just make a U turn through the edge of this so called clear cut. What i didn't count on was - as i wax riding over a bunch of 2-3in. saplings, one of them going on the inside of a front tire and the inside of a back tire...a trapping my foot on the peg in the process...whild pushing my leg very tightly against the engine.

Within 30sec. the heat made me realize I was going to have t do something, and quick. The nearest sign of civilization was miles away so yelling wasn't an option, and within the next 30sec. all other options were quickly forsaken.

Since i was still wearing the high top rubber/steel toed mine boots from my job (andf my leg was starting to blister), my only option was to grit my teeth and pull my foot out of the boot...while taking a few lAyers of skin with it..YOWWW!!!!

Gotta tell this one on my oldest son though.[;)]

I had told him to park the small trailer i had on the pickup in it's spot (which was about 100ft. away from where the truck was parked).
This small trailer was z little lowsided 4x8, but I was parked on a rather steep hill, and just assumed he's use the truck it was attached to. Like most teen agers he was always in a hurry, so he could go play.
I looked out just in time to see him behind the truck, and before i could yell out, he yanked it off the ball.

You should've seen the heel marks he left in the ground as this 500lb trailer slung his arse around, until coming to rest on the flat below.
Gotta give em credit though, he never let it go.[;)][:D][:D]

I just stepped out and said "they didn't teach physics at your school did they".[;)]

I was moving a dresser mirror into the barn for storage. One of my heifers was standing close by, being that I knew she had a mean streak in her, I don't know why but I decided to show her, her reflection in the large mirror.

    Not a bright idea.
