Swartzenegger signs microstamping bill
All new semiautomatic handguns sold in CA after Jan 1 2010 will be required to have a device that stamps the spent shell case with a seiral number. It will be as easy for a criminal to circumvent the intent of this law as it would be to file a fingernail.
It is the height of stupidity and will only affect lawful gun owers. Our already limited chioces of available semiautos will become smaller while the prices of those available will go up. A crook will still be able to get a non traceable firearm with ease. [xx(][xx(][V][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!]
Thinking of moving to a new state.

SchwarzenKennedy has sold us out again, no surprise from a RINO. 0 -
I thought it had already been proven that this system was not reliable?
Not like most of the criminals buy their guns legally...usually they are stolen and/or resold through the black market on the streets.
Maybe we should just let mexico have CA and they can deal with all the crap in that place.0 -
As it was expected. I wonder if people put up a fair fight... 0 -

Sure, but that bill is simply stupid and dangerous. The whole thing lacks common sense. It seems as if it was designed to eliminate semi-autos and people going to a range to shoot them, imagine you now have to worry that you might have left a casing behind and you could be prosecuted for a crime involving a firearm you didn't commit. I heard a few other states were considering this as well, now it's a matter of time before other socialist-leaning states will adopt the same legislation. Well, maybe it'll just take one case of a false conviction because of this new law to repel it.0 -
Someone needed to boost the value of revolvers.

The politics here stink, locally and at the state level. There is nothing left of reasonalble (logical) politics, its all buddy-buddy scratch my back and increase the media hysteria. It is hard to predict what will happen because of this bill because it is so intrusive, expensive AND stupid. 0 -
I said many years ago that all of the gun companies should quit doing business with or in CA including police sales. That's the only thing that would wake up the complacent citizens and shine a light on what the Commies in Sacramento are doing.
I am SOOO glad that lumbering idiot AHNOLD can't run for president.0 -
I don't give a damn.

Saxon, it's not the "complacent citizens", the commies here have district gerrymandering down to a fine art, to keep themselves in power. Enough power to shoot down a ballot initiative that Arnold tried to push through that would eliminate the way they do it. After it failed he adopted the mindset that if you can't beat em, join em.
Even when a good ballot measure passes, some liberal appointed judge over rules it.
This state has gotten so screwed up, that the people with enough money have voted with their feet and moved to unoccupied territories, along with most businesses that could too. It's slowly turning into a welfare socialist state, flooded with illegals.0 -
I wonder if Brass-Catchers are going to become CLASS III or restricted parts then.... [;)] 0 -
Pete, don't give em any more ideas! 0 -
If you read the law, you will see that microstamping requires the technology to be available, which it won't be.
But, you will no longer be able to buy a semi-auto without a safety lever, or revolver without a hammer block, so the number of guns sent to the state will be decreased.
This is the liberal plan; if you can't just outright ban all guns, pass laws that will whittle them down, little by little.

Neal, have you seen the Calif DOJ approved handgun list? Pretty well whittled already.[:(!] 0 -

If all these gun laws are supposed to make California safer, then why do the cops need body armor and "assault rifles"?
I would be all for a gun company boycott of California - if laws make the streets safer, then there should be no need for guns, body armor, or indeed, as many officers as they have now. And when those idiots are reduced to fighting criminals with their bare hands, maybe, just maybe the folks in Sacremento will realize that gun laws do nothing but manufacture rape and murder victims.[:(!]0 -
EMM, the old saying still holds true, Gun control is not about guns (or crime), it about control. 0 -

I go pick up my little Bulgarian Makarov Monday afternoon. Might be the last chance to get one for under $300 out here in HE!!.0 -
under $300!?!?! you're kidding, right? 0 -
thesneaktrussian quote: under $300!?!?! you're kidding, right?
I have been looking for one for quite a while, and have not seen one at any local gunshops. I got one on Gunbroker for $215. I saw a couple of Russian ones at the gunshow for over $300. The only Mak that can be inported into CA now is a Bulgarian, and I don't expect that to last past December.
The Bulgarian is listed wrong on the DOJ list so I think some dealers think it to is a non-importable firearm.
I hope I am worng about gun prices.0 -
What about revolvers?
Revolvers often carry more powerful ammo than semi-autos, or like the taurus that has an 8-shot cylinder.
** I think with ca (as I'm not familiar with the "stamp") can just buy a new slide or barrel like on the 1911. Or is it attached inside the frame that has nothing to do with a slide/ barrel replacement? **
I' think I'll use a brass catcher and throw shells I picked up at the range to throw off the cops; or better yet SCREW YOU CA!0 -
Where are you guys from california who were bragging about all the republicans in cali? I'll say it again, with a bunch of RINO'S like Arnold, WHO CARES! 0 -
Can someone pls. explain how exactly does this miscrostamping work? 0 -
Here is the link to the mighty CA DOJ site: http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/
I was taking about 2 different laws in my post, the stupid old law and the stupid new law.
For those who don't have the pleasure of living in the golden state, I will explain. Under the old FUBAR law, all new handguns sold in CA, with the exception of pawns and (in state) consignments, had to be be on the "list." This is where the state gets a bunch of money from the manufacturer or importer so the bean-counters can drop the firearm to see if it goes off. Not many in the gun biz want to pay the heafty price the bean-counters require to test a gun.
This list is just another form of oppression in the guise of "safety." Revolvers ARE on this list. I tried to but a nice Colt Trooper once and had to back out of the deal because of this law.
Revolvers are exempt from the new microstamping bill, at least the few that the DOJ has tested will be.
