Stolen gun safe
SPENCER TOWNSHIP -- Police detectives are looking for leads in a recent theft -- and they're worried that dozens of guns will soon hit the street. They say someone stole a large gun safe from a home in the 9600 block of Dorr Street in Spencer Township.
The homeowner says the thieves broke in through a side window and removed the safe by unhinging the back door.
The safe held thirty guns, including assault rifles.

I agree, pros. My safe weighs 750 lbs and it is a bear to move without special equipment. The house must have also been out of town or someone would noticed the perps in the house for the time needed to move such a beast. More reason to bolt the sucker to the floor.0 -
I hope the owner had the serial #s wrote down & someplace other than inside the safe.
without them it is Hard to prove ownership

Knew someone a few years back who was very paranoid about being ripped off. He had a huge safe. On the floor of the safe he had 12 sticks of dynamite, mercury switch and a 5 minute timer. Tilt or move the safe and you had 5 minutes to open the safe and disarm his bomb or else. He never got ripped off, lucky I guess. All he kept in the safe was a couple of Winchester lever guns, not of much interest to the usual theives and his wife's porcelain doll collection. He figured if he couldn't have them, then nobody was getting them. Personally told him I'd go for a 30 minute timer, let them get wayyyyyyyyy down the road.
On another note, buddy was telling me that someone's safe came up missing, a so caled witness reported that 2 hispanics backed a pu to the house, chained the safe to the truck and drug it to the exterior wall, backed up to it, tilted it in the back of the truck and drove off. Told him that something was fishy, never ever saw a pu with less than 6 hispancis in it.0 -

I heard a story from a nutcase who thought he was a gunsmith about the theft of a safe in Indianapolis.
The theives showed up with a big panel truck, some paperwork on a clip board and just loaded up the gun safe in broad daylight. The witnesses didn't pay any particular attention, they assumed it was a legitimate moving company.0 -

The Safe was not bollted down but it was 1000 lbs empty.. it took 4 guys from the company it was bought from to bring it in the house.. and on top of the safe being taken with the fire arms in it, they beat the hell outa my dog who is 12 years old... 0 -
and alos for the guy who said the area was black.. its not. The other end of Dorr is towards down town.. this was out in the country 0 -

it would take a dolly to get that safe out, with a two man crew. should of had the thing bolted down. 0 -
anyonw who owns a safe and has not bolted it down no matter how heavy is an as^hole!. Don't they realize it was rolled in how in the hell do they not think it cannot be ROLLED OUT! Some people are just Downright Stupid 0 -
In response to the comment above...you really don't realize that someone would come in while you are at work and take something that large from your home so until it happens you don't realize what you should have done. It has been a hard time for my family and a huge loss so I don't think it is neccisary to call us as^holes! 0 -

I think I can speak for most of the people on GB when I say we don't share the same view as John, but point taken it's harder to steal a bolted down safe. But I think if someone is going to steal something from you it doesn't matter if it's bolted down or not. I think I rather have someone steal an unbolted down safe vs. someone forcing me to open a bolted down safe at gun point. If someone wants something bad enough they are going to get it not matter what anyone thinks. Anyone who thinks simply bolting a safe down is going to stop someone is, I'm not going to say azzhole, but is fooling themselves.
I've been robbed before it's not the items they take so much as the feeling of security that you've lost. Most of us can say we feel for you and hope you get your guns back.

Thank you Traci! It is definately a feeling of violation and security. I was the one who go to walk in on the house all torn appart and I went into total shock. You never think it can happen to you until it does and it is a hard thing to get over. But I have to say it would be harder to get over if they did it when someone was home and hurt me or one of my family members. It was bad enough they hurt my dog. My family and I appreciate all of your condolenses and if any of you know of a place near by that would let you post our list please do.

If I was you I would post on this and keep it near the top for awhile so everyone has a chance to read it and keep us posted. All they have to do is find one gun and they can start tracing it bad to the people who stole it and maybe find more.

Dorr street is synonomous with being mostly black at least when the name is mentioned....that is what people assume! Unfortunately the report did not give a street addy so who would know the diff.. Even in the "white" section of that area there are blacks.

WOW! those are some $Expensive guns$!! If you are fortunate enough to get them back do as the guys said and bolt it down[weld or brad the thresds-whatever!] and get hooked up with a security service. JMHO!

I will make a copy of your description post and keep it in my wallet and i will keep an eye open for them. I don't think a reputable dealer would mess with hot guns simply because the federal pay back is way too much! I would check the guns shows for people walking around with guns to sell.0 -
