I choked it until it was dizzy from lack of oxygen and then...Nevermind. I don't want to be accused of being anything like a fury seal pup cluber.

Have a buddy down the road that feeds the cats on the back porch. He
complained about food disappearing, so I set him up with an outdoor
security camera. He has an endless steam of skunks and possums
feeding there. Kills a couple every night, but there are always
    replacements.

I have a cat door so my cat can go into and out of the garage as it wants and the possum was coming through the cat door to get the cat food.

Do you have to feed the animals outside? Dog/Cat food trains the outside critters (coons, possum, skunk, rats, snakes etc..) to come around your house. I quit feeding the dogs outside.

Believe it or not I worked with An African American lady who said she grew up in the South and they regularly ate Possum for dinner and then one day there was dead possum on the side of the road and her mom said "Look at the dead possum" and thats when she realized what it was she had been eating all that time. She said she never ate "Road Rat" again.

My Grandfather would use the Have-A-Heart trap for chipmunks and larger rodents and then tie baler twine to the trap and toss it in the pond. [8D]

Had a possum in my outer porch, where my cats get fed, just last night. I've gotten used to them. Sometimes I cage them up and deposit several miles away, but it seems others just replace them. I've had the problem ever since my killer dog Jake died almost exactly a year ago. FWIW, they're really easy to catch. I just grab them by the tail and dump them into the cat carrier for transport.[:D]

    WRONG!

    OPOSSUMS are not even closly related to rats and Neither are ARMADILLOS;

    Scientific classification
    Kingdom: Animalia

    Phylum: Chordata

    Class: Mammalia

    Infraclass: Marsupialia

    Order: Didelphimorphia
    Gill, 1872
    Family: Didelphidae
    Gray, 1821

The order Didelphimorphia contains the common opossums of the western hemisphere. Opossums probably diverged from the basic South American marsupials in the late Cretaceous or early Paleocene. A sister group is the Paucituberculata, or shrew opossums. They are commonly also called "possums", though that term is more correctly applied to Australian fauna of the suborder Phalangeriformes.

Didelphimorphs are small to medium-sized marsupials, about the size of a large house cat. They tend to be semi-arboreal omnivores, although there are many exceptions. Most members of this taxon have long snouts, a narrow braincase, and a prominent sagittal crest. The dental formula (one side of one jaw) includes 5 incisors (four on the lower jaw), 1 canine, 3 premolars and 4 tricuspid molars. By mammal standards, this is a very full jaw. The incisors are very small, the canines large.

    ARMADILLO:

    Scientific classification
    Kingdom: Animalia

    Phylum: Chordata

    Class: Mammalia

    Superorder: Xenarthra

    Order: Cingulata
    Illiger, 1811

Armadillos are small placental mammals, known for having a bony armor shell. The Dasypodidae are the only surviving family in the order Cingulata. Until as recently as 1995, the family was placed in the order Xenarthra, along with the anteaters and sloths.

There are approximately 10 extant genera and around 20 extant species of armadillo, some of which are distinguished by the number of bands on their armor. Their average length is about 75 centimeters (30 inches), including tail; the Giant Armadillo reaches roughly 90 cm (3 ft), while the pink fairy armadillos are diminutive species with an overall length of 12-15 cm (4-5 in). All species are native to the Americas, where they inhabit a variety of environments. In the United States, the sole resident armadillo is the Nine-banded Armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus), which is most common in the central southernmost states, particularly Texas.

If Opossums and Armadillos were rats they would be classified in the order of RODENTIA..[:0]

If you are going to kill it, at the very least be a bit more humane about it and use a gun....

I thought that was the most humane way. My neighbors get mad when I shoot in my back yard and so the two step process beginning with cutting his air supply until it was dizzy and then delivering the fatal blow after wards was the same as our capitol punishment method of fatel injection. First they give you a drug to put you to sleep then secondly they deliver the fatal drugs to do the final deed.

It is hardly the same as a lethal injection....

Sorry if that angers some people. I was raised by my grandparents and they taught me life lessons that are forign to todays thinking.
I also still use a mouse trap to catch mice. I wonder how many people think a cute fuzzy little mouse getting his leg half whacked off by the trap and then laying there to bleed to death is un exceptable also. I use a mole trap that suffocates him. I do not enjoy killing animals but I do not put an animal on the same plane as a human either.

In some cases, animals are above humans...
