How many deer have you killed this year
As of last count yesterday, my bud has killed 18. He is hunting today so he may have gotten a couple more.
Deer are prety plentiful around here and I did see one 10 popinter and an 8 today. I don't hunt but hang around with lots who do. It has been pretty good hunting around here this year.
I really would like to have a couple of the hides tanned but there is no one that I know here that does that and I just don't want to mess with them. Tom

Just one this year, trying to cut back on meat. Won't kill one unless I'm gonna eat it or for someone else who is gonna eat it. Well OK, if its eating my garden or fruit trees, it might get a sudden case of lead poisoning. 0 -

One 6 pointer. I could have easily filled the remaining 3 tags with does and spike/button bucks, but we didn't need the meat. However, if a larger buck had been in range I would have made room for the meat! 0 -
Please tell me what anyone needs with 18 deer....5 years from now this guy will be wondering why there are no more deer left around him.... and will most likely blame the game commission claiming they have poor deer management goals. I shot one deer a spike buck that I wanted for meat. The absolute max I will shoot is 2 per year, and only one of them a doe. If I get a buck early in the season I am done. 0 -

I don't know the bag limits here but there is an archery season, black powder season, regular season and dog season.
He has probably gone over limit but we have over population. I see road kills almost every day. He usually gives most meat away to old geezers like me who are too far gone to hunt.
Most of this hunting is done within 10 miles of his house. I see deer almost daily just behind my house.
Game wardens are way more concerned with federal stuff like ducks and geese.
I'll try to find out a little about bag limits on deer today. We do not tag deer or anything like that. Tom0 -

You read it right. The season is 135 days long. Five years ago the limit was one buck per day. Yes, in 2002 you could legally shoot 135 bucks in this region of South Carolina, which is the southeast, near Charleston.
Well, as you can imagine, that didn't work out. They had to change the regs. So now there is NO LIMIT on the number of bucks you may shoot.
Not so fast for the does! There are 17 doe days, daily bag limit is two. So you may only kill 34 does.
But, there is a special doe license you can get for $20, which allows you to kill 4 more does, and you may use those tags on any day of hunting season. So in region 6 of South Carolina you may legally shoot 38 does.
Southern deer are not as big as Northern deer. I have shot over 75 Georgia deer. A nice Georgia buck field dresses at 90 pounds.
In Georgia, the limit was 12 per year, and I was getting 7 to 9 every year. I was single and lived by myself. None of that venison went to waste.
You get 30 pounds of meat from a deer, times 9 is 270 pounds. So that allowed me to eat 3/4 pound of venison a day, no problem. I made sausage and burger and steaks so I had variety. I did give 15 pounds of my delicious venison sausage to my sister for Christmas, she loved it. Not legal to sell, but legal to give away venison.
It is pretty nice to go for a whole year and not spend a dime on beef or pork at the store.
Cox, you really should get some of your buddies' hides tanned. Sebring Custom Tanning in Sebring Florida does beautiful work for only $25, hair on, you pay shipping.
All you need to do is liberally salt the flesh side of the hide, let it drain for 3 days, then pack it up and ship it to Florida.

If I shoot them in the correct order,..between whitetail and sika deer,..I can LEGALY take 42 deer[:D]
Between crop permits and hunting,..I can go up to 25-30 but get bored with it. We always have standing orders for the deer,..so NONE go to waste.0 -

Oh, yeah. I only got one this year. The limit here is six but nobody gets that many, not many deer in the North Carolina mountains.
But, I got a nice 8 pointer that field dressed at 150 pounds, biggest deer I ever shot by far. Just finished a bowl of venison stew, tasty!0 -
Heff...in TN the limit is crazy. Only two bucks per year, but up to 3 doe per day!!! Season starts before Thanksgiving, and closes this coming weekend. Somebody smarter than me can figure up the number that gives you each year, but it's a bunch! We can eat 4 a year. When season opened this year, we had 2 1-lb packages of ground deer left and one pack of steaks. That is out of the four last year. This year, son has killed 3 (1 doe, 1 7-pointer, and 1 8-pointer). I killed a doe Friday morning. That makes our four for the year. We will probably go back to TN this coming weekend and hunt, but won't kill anything unless we see a monster. I'm not trying to judge anyone who kills 18 or 20 deer a year, but I do wonder why in the world you would need that many. If mom and dad wanted one, I would shoot one for them, but no way would I just go out and shoot deer for just anyone who wanted one or just for the "thrill" of the kill. I work hard to manage the herd on my property. Thankfully, it is all bordered by other family members, and they work at it too. All together there is about 800 consecutive acres, all side to side and back to back. Enough that we can have an affect on the herd by our management practices. We let kids shoot what they see, but all of the adults stick to an 8-point or up on the bucks, and do harvest some does. After several years, it is starting to pay off. Have seen more BIG deer this year than any other. Next year is shaping up to be a great year horn-wise for us, if the drought doesn't continue. 0 -

Strange thing tho. When I was a lad in this county (yalobusha, MS), 50 years ago, there were just no deer here. Nor were there many, if any turkeys.
Our county now is probably over populated with deer. They must be thinned for good of whold herd. So far, the ones I have seen dressed are as fat as pigs. There is good acorn crop plus everyones gardens that get eaten up.
As I said earlier, he give lots to the old folks plus, he just plain like to hunt deer.
He has one hide in the gut bucket right now i may drag out and salt down. With 20 or so hides I could cover my whole floor with hides. Tom0 -

i had a great year .got a large 9 point , and 8 point and a large doe . saw many deer this year .we had good snow for the opening week of gun season . now we got to get back to camp area and start thinning them coyotes .too many dogs running down there .

I always shoot atleast 10! And still have an empty freezer when the next season rolls around. If you worry about the deer population going anywhere then just come over here in Southern Indiana and sit in a tree for the morning, you will be wondering where they are all coming from. Last year opening morning of shotgun season I shot 7 does from 7:40am to 9:07am from the same stand, and that is not including the other 3 dozen that scattered at variuos times when I shot those does. When you see multiple( as in more than a dozen personally) does with twins and triplets I don't think you have to worry about hunting the population to thin. CWD and the other various dieseases that are starting to make their way around due to over-population is what will kill more deer than any hunter can. As long as I can take a lot of deer, I will, because I use more deer meat than most people use any sort of meat. And it is a lot cheaper than beef.
However, I could see your complaint if everyone just went out and shot deer for fun and let them lay and go to waste. But I see more and more people every year realize what they are missing with some good deer jerky or venison stew, and don't forget the steaks.0 -

Yep. Have many many acres of food plots. [:D] Lots of sunflowers, turnip greens work well, lots of alfalfa and clover. Some overseeded with rye and oats. Very little of this land is in regular crop production. Maybe 75 acres total in corn and winter wheat. Rest is in woods and some open old pasture land. We have dug 12 ponds across it for water, so deer don't have to go anywhere to get what they need. IMHO...it is a hunting paradise. This year when I was bush-hogging I flushed hundreds of quail. The rabbit population is coming back strong. Squirrel are down, but that is because of the bad mast crop the last few years. Dove swarm it every year. Deer everywhere you look. In short, I want my ashes scattered across it when it's my time to go!!0 -
That sounds like paradise! That alfalfa and clover are what they need for the protein, good for growing horns, good for making healthy fawns.
I envy you.
I have 48 acres of heavily wooded NC mountaintop property. I plan to clear 2 acres and grow clover, I know it would help the deer hunting immensely.0
