How many deer have you killed this year
As of last count yesterday, my bud has killed 18. He is hunting today so he may have gotten a couple more.
Deer are prety plentiful around here and I did see one 10 popinter and an 8 today. I don't hunt but hang around with lots who do. It has been pretty good hunting around here this year.
I really would like to have a couple of the hides tanned but there is no one that I know here that does that and I just don't want to mess with them. Tom

Five including one 10 point and 4 does. Donated 2, made 2 into jerky and sent it to Iraq, and ate one. Best part was being with my kids as they got one each. Watched lots of deer and saw some things that I hadn't seen in over 40 years of hunting. Good season for me. 0 -

Neither I nor the kid who started hunting with me this year got so much as a shot. The deer just -- faded. Seemed there were plenty to go around, lots of roadkill, lots of evening activity, but I'm not the only one and I'm far from the most skilled to have gotten skunked, or close to it.
Here in Dearborn County, Indiana we can legally shoot nine deer (one buck, eight does) in the archery, firearms, and ML seasons combined. Moving over to Ripley County, another nine. Go to Switzerland County and Ohio County, another nine and four, or four and nine, I forget which county has which bag limit. Kills on depredation permits aren't counted toward the bag limit, but I have neither a farm nor a garden of the legal minimum size, so I can't buy those permits.
Lots of folks here eat venison who don't hunt, and the kid I mentioned comes from a very poor family that numbers at least five -- more depending on their neighbors' situations. The meat wouldn't have gone to waste if we'd each filled a tag every couple of days or so. To someone not living in a heavily-deer-populated area, this might seem like a weak rationalization, but at $24.00 for each buck and first doe tag, $15.00 for all subsequent doe tags (per county), that's an awful inexpensive way of avoiding having to visit the meat dept. at the market. I process my own deer, so there's not even that expense.0 -

18 DEER and still hunting,I certainly hope he is eating ,or donating those deer to the hungry! Here in Pa. he wouldn't be called a hunter,he'd be called a game hog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -

As a meat hunter only, CWD has taken a lot of the fun out of it. You just never know...
It is obvious his definition of trophy is "a big ole chest freezer full to the top". Some people take deer for elders who don't/can't hunt any more, but like the meat. A deer is not like getting a half side of beef...there is only about 35-50 pounds of meat on a good sized deer. Some states in the south are over run with deer and have long seasons with liberal 2/day limits. Some people prefer venison over beef, pork, or poultry also. Instead of getting it fresh when you need it though, you nly have one time of the year to shop. I have no problem if the guy takes 118 deer as long as they are going to be put to good use, and not just shot for the TROPHY antlers.0 -
9 for me & 2 for my son. Here in Illinois bag limit is 2 bucks per person & unlimited does - as long as you want to keep buying tags. We've hunted 3 different locations and really, if you think about how many does have twins & triplets and how many hunters will only take one deer & won't shoot a doe, we're hardly making a dent in the population. I'd say for every hunter who takes home 10 - 20 deer, there are probably 50 hunters that kill one deer only - it all evens out. God put them here for us to eat, so I'm more than happy to supply venison to anyone that wants it. We're eating 3 this year & the rest were given to family, friends & the Hunters for the Hungry program. Once word gets around that you kill several deer a year, you'd be surprised how many people will tell you that they'd take a deer if you get an 'extra'. 0 -

I can see that if you live in an area where only one or two deer are allowed per hunter, that a person who kills 18 would seem like a "game hog."
You must understand that the state DNR sets the limits according to the population of the deer herd.
When a DNR sets a limit of 20 or 30 deer per hunter, it is a cry for help. They need more deer killed!
The DNR is getting complaints from insurance companies that there are too many expensive deer/car accidents. Insurance companies play a big part in setting bag limits, believe it or not.
If you ever have seen a deer laying in a ditch, with its hind legs paralyzed from being hit by a car, and the deer looks up at you with those big eyes as it tries in vain to struggle to its feet, as I have seen, you would know that it is a far more humane death to get a hunter's bullet in the lungs.
Where I used to live in central Georgia, my county averaged one deer/car crash per day, year round. Since I was a Paramedic I kept up with this statistic pretty easily, worked quite a few of these wrecks myself.
DNR also knows that when the deer herd is overpopulated, they are much more susceptible to plagues, such as chronic wasting disease or blue tongue. Rather than have a deer suffer for days or weeks and then die from one of these ailments, far better he is humanely killed and eaten by homo sapiens.0 -
Well, he got two more, a doe yesterday and a 7 point day before. His mom will be frying up the doe tenderloin for us tonight. My favoriet with brown gravy, biscuits and mashed tatters. It just don't get any better. Tom

Damn, that sounds good. But sometime try putting some kraft zesty Italian dressing(whole bottle), and a half cup of red wine in a gallon Zip Lock bag. Throw your loins in there whole or in 10 inch long pieces. Let it marinate for 24 hours, then cook it over a charcoal or hardwood fire to medium rare. Don't be to sloppy eatin' to get any on your head...your tongue will beat you to death. Next get some of them there Idaho Russet potatoes, and prepare them for baking in aluminum foil by slitting the top lengthwise 1/8th inch deep. roll it in butter/spread, coat it with some Bayou cajun seasoning from McCormic, then wrap in foil. Bake these on the fire too for about 1 hour before you put the meat on.
Follow that recipe, and he will want to kill 18 more...I am sure.0 -

Including the doe I missed and the 2 8 pointers that were too far away for buckshot...a BIG FAT ZERO!!! Still have 3 more seasons here in DE so am hoping to get something. Need some meat for the freezer!!! 0 -

Be careful...don't hurt yourself. It works well with any home made italian dressing also. We have a marinade up here in UPSTATE NY, that is called new York State Fair Beef Speidy Sauce. I like to doctor that also with some wind garlic, crushed red pepper, and some of my maple syrup from my own trees.0
