We own a Bed And Breakfast and my wife has it fiqured out real well. I have to help her put the Christmas trees and deco up before I go deer hunting. Then she makes me take all of the stuff down before I go to the Chili Bowl in January. We put up 9 trees and they were all up by Nov. 5 this year. Tis the season to be Jolly !!!!!

We found that if we buy them when they first show up at the Food Lion, put them on the Northside of the house, in the shade, in a bucket of water then they will keep in good shape when brought in the house mid December and will even still be fresh when thrown out in January.

At the grocery store the trees are in the sun, unwatered and dried out in several weeks.

I bought two trees Thursday. ($30 each).

The best of the two fir trees will be decorated and standing in our front hall. The other tree will be cut in half. The boughs from the lower half will be used in wreathes and decorating the stair railing going upstairs. The top half will be hung from a low tree branch near the kitchen window. When we have grandkids here over Christmas, we make a "Bird Christmas Tree" by decorating it with garlands of cranberries and popcorn, also decorations of suet and peanut butter. Then we go inside and watch the winter birds for about a week.

Half of the fun of christmas is the tree going up and the lights all lit etc...Put it up too soon and yes Locust you did *LOL and by the time christmas does roll around its..."phooey"...no more magic when the tree is lit, nothing special about sitting round it and talking....its just there...

That is a great idea. I would like to try that out but we don't have any sizable trees close to the house yet. I guess I could make one and just attach it to a stake in the ground.
