where I'm from in 50 pictures
here's the house I was born in. dad was 24, mom was 18.
about a year later they moved into this house. my sister was born.
one day I was riding on my Tonka truck on the sidewalk, and these two brats came along with a bb gun. they thought it would be funny to shoot me in the balls. well, they missed. I told mom & dad but they didn't believe me... after 38 years, I found it in granny's basement.
2 years later they had this house built.
13 years later they had this house built.

here's the high school. dismal. the principal and his cronies hated my guts (and I hated them too) so they made up a story that I locked the janitor on the roof so they could kick me out! and kick me out they did. can you believe that!
so I went to work here. this is THE pizza place. the guy is so rich he bought the whole strip mall so he doesn't have to pay rent anymore.
this was the 7-11 out in the middle of nowhere by my house. where I got my first ticket for driving without a license, where I dodged my first cop, where I swiped my first case of beer. where did all this &&& come from?!
I did a lot of carpentry all over town, but this is the only house I built completely from start to finish.

another large project, fire damage, we tore everything down, left nothing but the walls, rebuilt and reroofed it.

what do you do with a stump?
this is the kwik shop I worked at, out in the middle of nowhere. I met another girlfriend when she started working there, we went behind the coolers and smooched, thought nobody would see us but they did... a customer got a can of pop and saw us, snitched us off and we got in trouble. now look at it! where did all this &&& come from??
here's her house
me and stormy went to the dog park, it's an old baseball field. it goes waaaay back to those lights back there. it's huge.
this used to be a regular street! what's all this *&*&*??
my cousins own this restaurant. they expanded to 3, but now they're retired and just kept the first store.
World Famous Soma Sandwich! I was told it's "some-a this, some-a that". but Aldous Huxley fans might get a different idea. 5 bucks.
my grandma (dad's mom) had a furniture store, this jewish lady would come in and buy furniture on loan, sell it and pay her back. grandma's went out of business, but the jewish lady's went on to be the biggest furniture/appliance retailer in the midwest. it's so big, here's 4 pictures of it from right to left.
here's a food fixture in town. you either love this food or you hate it.

same here. greasy hamburger meat in a baked bun. love it or hate it.

this place has exploded! since I left, it grew 5 miles out, all nice new expensive houses. I left because there wasn't much for jobs there. WHERE did they get the $$$ to build all this?!?!? HOW can these people afford all this?!?!?

the parents went here to eat a lot. I didn't mind it, sis hated it. so I dragged her and her kids here for dinner. the Bohemian Cafe.

Pilsner Urquell. not bad.
their "package liquor lounge", hasn't changed in 30 years as far as I can remember. those are ceramic bottles of liquor.
then we split over to dad's house. here's the sis, her husband & clan
one of dad's chessboards. I played him hundreds of times, only beat him once in my whole life. I know this chessboard quite well.

his dad's house up yonder. all this was his dad's farm, just to the left of where that house is with the car was the farmhouse built in 1910, didn't get electricity until 1957, would have been a nebraska state landmark if it wasn't sold and torn down to build these houses. the whole subdivision was his farm. behind me (can't see it) is a cemetery, that was the other half of the farm.
mom's mom's house. a few blocks away from dad's dad's house. her husband was an alcoholic, she drove him nuts, the last time anyone saw him he was choking the *(&( out of her on the front lawn underneath that window March 1964. he left.
...and here she is
85 years old. really makes me think, ya know. I got another 45 years and I'm going to look like that.

I got goose bumps reading your post. Don't know why, guess I'm sentimental and was thinking about my past history. I turned 46 on Memorial Day, I feel life and time are moving way too fast.

Yes, Ed and Dodie's place. Had them there for years. Ed and Dodie have both passed away. Both were good friends and we went to a ton of horse sales together. Bought many horses with them, hauled tons of hay with them. Sad to see them gone. I did pass by the place the other day and seen there is a horse or two there again![:)]
