I would love to do my life in 50 pictures like you did! Thanks for posting it. I may even try it, but it would take me a few years to back track and take pictures of things.

I think that's great you did this!

Looks like that makes you an Omaha boy, Moved out west around west Center Road or Pacific street and went to Burke it looks like. Younger years probably closer to midtown Omaha which put you in or around the 52nd street to 30th street area, probably close to Dodge street. Bohemian Cafe is on 13th and Woolworth. So, how did I do on this? Dave

South Omaha boy here! 60th & "L" Street, used to keep my horses over on 48th & Harrison. Would ride all over town, all the time. Yep, Omaha thinks it's a big classy city, but it really will always be a cowtown.[:p]

I can think of a couple of places right at 48th and Harrison where there were horses. Did you happen to have horses at Eddie and Dodie's place? They were a couple blocks off of there, but I know they boarded horses.

Where I am those houses would be over $700,000, and you would have to be a doctor married to a lawer to buy one. Nice pictures!

A very interesting post and the house that you built yourself would be in the $1 million range (easily) here in Orange County, CA. Svickova, which is roast tenderloin in a sour cream sauce (there is a Polish dish very much like it) and a cold Czech pilsner is heaven on earth at dinner time [:p].

I also enjoyed the journey. Nice job putting it together!

At 65 I too reflect on the wonder of my life and the life of my parents and grandparents. Each of us has a life story to tell and its a little sad at the end but to live a full life up to 80+ is a joy!

I encourage you to capture all the information that you can and put it in a form that you can hand off to your children and relatives. It keeps the families rich history alive in the minds of everyone, when they choose to sit down and read it. They will do this at some point in their lives.

quote:Good post, buschmaster, thanks for all the work.

You told in pictures the way a lot of people feel. It reminded me of an old song, had to look up the lyrics:

Nine miles of two-strand topped with barbed wire
Laid by the father for the son.
Good shelter down on the valley floor,
Down where the sweet stream runs.

They're busy building airports on the south side.
Silicon chip factory on the east.
And the big road's pushing through the valley floor.
Hot machine pouring six lanes at the very least.

They say they gave me compensation.
That's not what I'm chasing. I was a rich man before yesterday.
Now all I have left is a broken-down pickup truck.
Looks like my farm is a freeway.

They forgot what this old land was for.
Grow two tons the acre, between the stones.
This was no Southfork, it was no Ponderosa.
But it was the place that I called home.the folks used to tell me and my sister they didn't have any money but they were rich, 'cuz they had us. we were like "huh??" well now we know what they were talking about.

quote:Where I am those houses would be over $700,000, and you would have to be a doctor married to a lawer to buy one. Nice pictures!they're probably going for 150-250K+ there in Omaha, I don't have a clue where all those people got jobs to pay for their houses!! and the houses are all like that. I'm confounded.
quote:You should thank god they were a bad shot!!!hell yes!

Svickova, which is roast tenderloin in a sour cream sauce (there is a Polish dish very much like it) and a cold Czech pilsner is heaven on earth at dinner time.an architect designed it himself, bought the materials himself and had us build it. he saved a lot of $$$, I forgot what he said it cost him total. probably 120K. that was 1988.
if you like svickova, you'd like the bohemian cafe. they have all that stuff, believe me.

Great essay! I even showed it to my girlfriend and she loved it too! I hope you don't mind if I copy the idea when I get a digital and learn how to use it and post up!
PS I'm a big fan of McCook, Nebraska.

This really is a great summation of your life in photo's. I know all the areas because I grew up in the same general locations. Early years around 30 & Woolworth, then Papillion and for awhile around 144th and center. Not there anymore either but it was good to see the pictures as it not only gave great info on your life but brought back many memories for me. Thanks. Dave
