Been playing basketball for the last few weeks. I hit the treadmill, rowing machine, and free weights when I don't play basketball.

I could never belong to a gym. Just too structured for me. We have ample snow this winter so I've been snowshoeing a couple times per week plus I have about 10 cords of tree length firewood to cut up and split. I walk about 5 miles most weekends when the ground is bare, garden in the summer (although the knees aren't what they used to be), ride my mountain bike on a regular basis, and have strenuous aerobic sex at least 10 times weekly.

Usually a bad idea to let the wife find out about the girlfriend(s).

I've been working out for years, but for the past few months I've been very serious. I plan to compete in some tri-atlons this year and plan to win not just enter. I'm can proudly say I'm in the best shape I've been in. But I do need to do more strength trainer/weight lifting. Some of the events I plan to enter involve canoeing and kayaking.

Silly as it sounds, a yoga class two or three times a week will do wonders for flexibility and even body strength. You'll feel twenty years younger after a few months at it.

Add to that a decent rowing machine or jumping rope, twenty minutes, 3x a week.

Been a regular exerciser for most of my life.

Eased off a bit the past 5 years, but still do at least 30 minutes of cardio, 3-5 times weekly and 3-4 days a week lifting weights (moderate weight).

Used to run regularly, but now that i'm over 40, I want to keep my hips and knees from getting thrashed, so I use a cross trainer and stair climber for cardio. Easier on my joints.

Now if I would only stop eating so much.[;)]

Winston Churchill once said, "I get my exercise being pallbearer for those of my friends who believe in regular running and calisthenics."

So, if it was good enough for him, it's good enough for me...[:)][:)]

Gyms are OK if you want to socialize and spend a lot time changing cloths, driving, and waiting on equipment. I just bought the basic equipment that I use and work out at home. It makes working out when you have kids a lot easier. Not to mention all the money it saves. Oh and you don't have all those hot gym babes trying to get you a divorce either. Wait that's just my overactive imagination again. LOL.

I don't use a gym. Mostly running and sports with friends. My problem, for a while, was to lose weight, not necessarily to build muscle. (I know building muscle will help you lose, but I have never had a problem with the muscle, just the cushy layer of fat covering it).

In the past year, just by eating right, (well, better anyway) running, biking, and playing paintball and other sports, I have gone from 6'2 and 270 at my heaviest, to 6'2 and 189 as of this morning.
    [:D] I went from a tight 38 regular 40 waist, to a lose 33. As you can imagine, I am pleased.[:p]

Go to the gym about 5-6 days a week. Free weights and cardio on the days I don't lift. When warm I run outside intsead.

All three in the family go to the gym 3 times a week. I missed most of last year with the hip replacement and the shoulder tune up. But I want to start shooting trap this spring and summer and need to get those parts working again.

Two kids and starting a business have killed the workout routine.

I dont like I used to, but I try to hit the gym once or twice a week. I do pretty much jog a little over a mile every day weather permitting.

I am 42 and run a quick paced 2 miles just about every weekday. I have a Precor Elliptical to use in bad weather. I also do pushups, situps, and some weights. Pulse, blood pressure, and cholesterol are all great. I also do not drink (never have except for a beer once in awhile when I was in my early 20s, never smoked and have never done any illegal drugs. I am not an "athlete" or anything, but I can still easily pass the Army PT test for my age group. I do it on my own a few times a year to make sure I am keeping up with things.

3-5 times a week almost every week for the last 10 years.

Not that you'd know it by looking at me.

Working at a college, I have free access to the athletic center.

Never much one for lifting weights, I've tried it and got sick of lack of results. 3 months of reps on bench press, tricepts work outs, etc., only resulted in me being able to lift 10% more than at the start.

I do do a fair amount of aerobics and stuff to burn calories- 4-5 days a week, 20 min each on the elliptical machine, treadmill, and bike, plus about 100 crunches a day.

Granted, I do this off and on; I'm on an 'on' phase now, have been for about 3 months. I've lost 10 pounds since starting this routine, with only minor changes in diet, i.e same dinner and breakfast, but a slightly lighter lunch. Most noticeable is the looser pants from the crunches I guess, but I do sleep better so I guess the rest has an effect too.

I cannot bring myself to spend free time "exercising." The only way I get exercise is if I get a job involving physical labor... for instance, at 6' 200 lbs I got a part-time job at FedEx loading vans. Dropped down to about 185 lbs after three months. And I got paid for it. Better to earn money for your sweat than lose it.

If you want a real workout - try unloading trucks at FedEx. You have a semi-trailer filled end to end, top to bottom with packages. You have to unload 1 package every three seconds to keep pace, while making sure that the shipping label is facing up so that the sorter behind you can shove it to the proper belt line.

Winter exercises for those of us that are getting older...

Just came across this exercise suggested older folks, to build
muscle strength in the arms and shoulders.

It seems so easy, so I thought I'd pass it on to everyone.

The article suggested doing it three days a week.

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty
of room at each side. With a 5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend
your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long
as you can. Try to reach a full minute, then relax.

Each day, you'll find that you can hold this position for just a
    bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato sacks. Then 50-lb
potato sacks. Eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb
potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than
    a full minute.

    (I'm at this level)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the
    sacks.

Yes, right now 4 days a week strength in the evening and cardio in the am. Finishing up on the rebuild of my weight room and looking at a few new toys to go in there. I have been useing a friends "spark bike" but no way David will agree to spending 5k on a piece of gym equipment. I am trying to get back in to my competition shape.

I do, but not very often. I'm getting in pretty sad shape. I do stay away from pop though, that helps a lot. I need to start up again doing stuff at least every other day.
