Tori goes back to school. (another ?)
Sorry, no pics.
Tori is thinking about heading back to college to become a Dentist.
We'd end up moving south of town, she'd take the Tiburon to commute, and I'd be trading in the Element on a pickup.
We're 23 now. 6yrs of schooling(5yrs maybe, depending on how many of her credits transfer). We'd be 30 before having kids.
What are your opinions on this matter. Kids now, or later?
Do you think Dentistry is a good field to be in?
Edit
Before I settled on Architecture as my major, my dad was pushing for me to consider Radiation Technology.
With a 2yr AS at Ivy Tech she can get her cert as a Radiation Technologist.
Starting salary around here is around 52k/yr. We have a huge new hospital being built in town(Clarion) and they'll be looking for personnel.
I mentioned it before and she had given it some thought. Maybe I'll see what her thoughts are.

Got a son that will be 30 in a couple of days. No kids , not married. No priorities but himself. Don't be selfish. Get a baby in the oven now.. Don't forget that the sooner you have them the quicker they leave the nest. Seen them old folks at graduation?
Cubs that is a bunch of whooowie, they all take 18 yrs to raise and leave. im 29 going on 30 and your the first to know that, i have one in the oven. me and my wife both went to school and are both doing what we want to do for the next 15-20 yrs. it was hard to wait that long to have a kid do to the fact, that the wife's family is mormon. most mormon girls marry 19-20 yrs old and before or shortly after they are 21 they have 1 kid with anonther on the way. we waited so that we could get better established and gather a few toys and now we are ready,we both work, and are making decent money and she will be able to go 2-3 months without working after "IT" is born and take care of the kid and we will be fine. I've had my fun it's time to get serious and settle down. you and your wife are still young, enjoy it while it last. there are just some things you cant do when your older. but raising kids aint one of them. in fact i think that it will be easier when your older, you will know more and knowing is half the battle.
GOOD LUCK
You sound exactly like my son .... Knowing what a parent is before being one.. but I have news for you.. Everything in books aren't exactly right till YOU experience it.0 -
Have fun while your young ...
... 30 is not too old to start a family; in retrospect, its the perfect age!0 -

Dentistry is a fine field (one of my five brothers in law is a dentist) but any medical field (MD, DDS, DVM, ect.) takes a lot of hard study and she can forget all about free time for her hubby (that is you Cubs). If she does head for dental school then postponing kids to age 30 is quite likely because she won't even have time to look at you for 6 years, much less....[}:)]. Professional degrees, which are all post graduate (masters level or beyond) are extremely demanding of time and money so a firm commitment from both of you is going to be needed before she heads down the road to becoming Dr. Tori.
My opinion, This is excellent advice. Practical and honest.
Let her decide. You're only young once. What good are dreams if you never try to pursue one every now and again?
Good luck.........0 -
Me and my wife both started school in our late 30s just a few years ago. I graduated and am now in a masters program. My wife graduates next week.
Our kids are 18,14,and 12. When we started school they were 4 years younger. School and kids CAN be done at the same time. School, a job, and kids cannot be done at the same time. Neither one of us work right now. It was a HUGE step and took alot of courage to quit our jobs and start school.0 -

I agree totally 100%, I know this, I wasn't ready to be a parent that is why my wife and I waited (11yrs)[;)]. we have more tools for lack of a better term and more money to handle becoming "Parents" As some have said having kids ruins your life, then i say this.
"Is it not, better to "ruin" the life that you have, than "ruin" the life that you could of had""0 -
You thinkn too hard. What happens happens. If try to plan things of the nature then it will usually foul up somewhere along the way. Give an example: Us married , her 17, me 18. I am now goin on 31, her 29. Two wonderful boys, ages 4 and 7. One in preschool, other in 2 grade. She works first shift at Cummins, me work second shift at Cummins. Marriage and kids have slowed her down to where she is slowly working towards getting her degree, say it is now 6-8 years, instead of 2-4 years. The way I see it, you can still have kids, get the schooling, still be happily married all at the same time, if you both learn to give and take. Let life take it's course instead of worrying about if it was the right decisions. Oh and on the decision we made of haven kids, we figured why plan. If it happens, it happens. 0 -
Oh and by the way i believe the "Types" as listed in the above posts dont go for everyone in this world. Just typical stereotyping. 0 -

"hypothetically speaking"
It happens and you should have no money or are making minimum wage, you'll just jump on the welfare train and let the rest of use pick up the bill THANK's Appreciate that. as if i don't have enough of those kids to pay for.
Planing for a child is in everyone's best interest and defiantly the child's
again my 2 cents0 -
I think anyone that gets married before 30 is probably ill advised. Children should not be raising children. On the other hand I never understood the desire to have kids and never did. We all congratulate each other like it is some major accomplishment, but heck round worms have been doing it for 300,000,000 years, so it really does not take much brains. Raising them is a different story all together, and most don't do it well, judging by the end product. 0 -

Why is it that all the women that work in a dentist's office are either old or young and hot?
It's all in when you meet them.[:D]0 -
I was over 30 when I had my first. I think I should have waited a little longer! 0 -
I'm almost 52 and the lovely and talented Mrs JBC is 48. We have 8 & 5 year old children. We didn't plan it that way but we met later in life, so that's how it worked out. No matter when you have children, they're a blessing, IF you're prepared (mostly mentally) for them. The $$ tends to work out, but ask yourselves what kind of life do you want for them?
We are both active with their school work, we participate with them in school and extra-cirricular activities (t-ball, dance, scouts, tennis, swimming, etc). Some days it feels like it's out of control and that we won't live 'till retirement, but it passes. We both have career's that are, at times, very demanding, but overall we're very settled and secure.
I could not imagine trying to raise 2 children while trying to build 2 careers AND have a successful marriage. I know many people do it, but many aren't able to; hence the divorce rate. The two of you have to agree and go from there, but realize what you may sacrifice if you have the kids before you're ready. Just my 2bits.0 -
Well, I wasn't going to post my .02 cents on this thread but since it came back up....
These guys have more experience than me so they can probably offer you better advice. I also tend to be a pessimist, likely based on the experiences I've had in life so far.
Just keep in mind, the only thing guranteed are the school loans.
Whether she goes one year, two years or the whole thing before changing her mind, the school loans will be there! I know it sounds stupid and obvious, but my wife has been to this school and that school. Loan after loan. All while racking up a damn credit card. And now, we'd be ten times better off if she hadn't went at all.
I attended and graduated from a 2 year college and never went back. The 'portion' I had to pay on my loan will finally be paid off in '08.
It will be a gamble on your part. It would be awesome if she does stick with it, gets through the whole thing and becomes a dentist. But, that is the only option for success, while so many things can happen along the way to de-rail the whole thing. Believe me! Mainly if she decides she doesn't actually want to do that anymore. Then she has to decide whether to reluctantly go on with it, or cut your losses and feel burdened with guilt. Either way, it's not good.
We are hoping to have our school loans (among other things) out of the way before having kids. If you wait until she gets out of school and starts the job, you'll likely be waiting longer than you expect.
Plus, you'll practically just be starting to pay school loans at the same time you're having a kid. Which means another mouth to feed, another insurance premium, and everything else.
Likely, all the while she's not going to work and may not want to go back to work for a while, but there won't be an option.
Not trying to rain on the parade but you've got to be realistic about these things.
It's a slippery slope man. Just have to decide what's more important to you guys. You know her better than we do.
In conclusion, life is short. Show her who's the boss and knock her up tonight. [;)][:D][8D]0 -

If a person has the least bit of nuts they can make enough money to make it work. I got my girlfriend (now wife) pregnant by accident. Didn't have a pot to piss in. I don't even have a high school diploma, but I still make better money then most, and if I'm willing I can double or triple the average income. I'm just not willing to make that sacrifice of being gone 300+ days a year anymore.
Extended welfare for able bodied people is for the lazy trash that won't help themselves. This country offers way to many oppurtunities to be on welfare.0
