Sicko: Michael Moore makes a good move.
I just watched this, and of course it is filled with the unfair emotional persuasion, but it is an eye-opener. It is a jaded snap shot at what our lives could be like - what it should be like. It is a plead for nationalized health care and it has helped to solidify my decision on the matter. I urge you to investigate the issue because it certainly seems important and necessary. Reminds me of his excellent film 'Roger and Me' it is nice to see him fight for the right thing.

I think MM only points out the cancer in are government, or what ever. He has no fix for the problem, but some of you want to shoot the messenger, to get rid of him not the problem. His 911 film about Dubya was blasted, but today Dubya's ataboy points are way down. My wife and I each payed into two different medical insurance programs for over 35 years, all they payed was 80% of the bill. If I had only one insurance , they would of payed 80% of the bill. Most state laws stop you from making money off your insurance programs, but if each one of are insurance programs had payed fifty percent of the bill, i don't see me cheating anyone? Go figure. 0 -
I know, I know - I wanted to see if I would get ripped a lot more or helped.
There are many many positives and negatives for and against a nationalized health system. Some negatives being:
probable decrease in health care for those with good insurance
losing the highest paid doctors to other countries
long waits for care
increase in taxes
people cheating the system way more than even now
people won't want to become doctors because they won't get paid as much
Productivity of the nation would rise because people would be treated for their illnesses, not have to stress about paying a huge copay or deductable or bill.
I'm sure the list can go on and on. But I think that there are some positives that it would bring also.
Our life expectancy and infant mortality rate should eventually catch up to the countries that already have a system.
Everyone would get care, and equal care.
It would be a system that promotes health because it would be good for the nation and not just for the insurance company.
We would cut out some paperwork and some of the middle-men
and again I am sure there are many more than this
I will borrow this directly from the movie, because I thought that it made some sense. What nationalized(kind of) systems do we already have? Police, Fire, Postal service, - we could be having the same argument about them as well.
Please tell me why national health care is important and necessary?
Important because keeping everyone healthy should be based on more than just how much money you have or what type of insurance you can afford. Insurance companies are there to make money, they try to make you healthy for as cheap as possible and if it is extremely expensive to treat a terminal illness for example, it is in their best interest to deny treatment and let you die. That just doesn't sit right with me. Doctors with no vested interest should be in charge of you treatment, not a team whose job is to minimize expenses.
Please tell me how it will be financed?
With the tax dollars of the American working people.
Would illegal aliens be exempt?
I don't know, hopefully it would just be for citizens, but like it is now, I don't think you can turn someone away from the emergency room.
Who would be exempt?
Again, I don't know.
Who REALLY has the most to gain from a nationalized health care system?
People who can't afford health care, or very good insurance, children whose parents can't afford the best. People who can afford the best right now will probably see a decrease in their care, but I believe the majority of us would see an increase or at least not a marked decrease.
Would it encourage growth in research and technology in the medical industry?
I am not sure on this, I would have to think about it a little more. It may damage the private sector because a profitable industry would have just gotten much smaller. But at least the government would be more apt to do research, I hope, because the better 'stuff' we have the less we will have to pay in the future.
I apologize for the unorganization, and to be honest I didn't put my heart and soul into this writing. So go ahead, rip me a new one. I probably deserve it for making bold statements without knowing all the facts. But just as I'm sure I can't sway too many opinions here It would take a pretty strong argument to change my mind.0 -

Funny thing about Hillary logic. All women should have the right to have an abortion on demand...but under the Hillary Plan both you and the doctor could go to jail for going outside the system for anything else. Go figure.0 -

Moore is getting paid. People that believe his crap are weak minded, uninformed, carbon credit buying fools. He distorts the truth. He was sued by several people that he misrepresented in the 911 movie that he made.
Why do "well to do" people from Canada, Cuba, UK, etc come to the states to get treatments? It costs them dearly.
Dr's make tons of money in hte US therefore some of the brightest and best people strive to become DR's. Would you rather lesser intelligent people become Dr's?
The gov stepped in and helped with child immunizations. The price went down. The companies found it less profitable to make them. There are shortages. hmmm - more shortages would be better.
You want to know about the healthcare in Cuba, talk to a cuban that set himself and his family adrift on a wooden raft hoping to wash ashore in the US. I have watched the sun set from Key West on more than one occation, and have yet to see anyone trying to escape from the US to Cuba.0 -

Back in the 70's President Jimmy Carter got the govenment heavily involved in trying to hold down gasoline prices. The result was a gas "shortage", long lines at the gas pump and having to purchase gas only on certain days. Since then we have learned that we Americans would rather have all the gasoline we want at $3.00 a gallon as compared to no gasoline at $1.50 per gallon.
In regards to medical care I would rather have all the excellent medical care I want for a $350.00 monthly medical insurance bill than lousey and rationed medical care at little or no cost.
But I will admit I wish there was a way to cover all working or otherwise deserving Americans at a reasonable price.0 -

Criminy, he even made a big stink about Apple (or whoever it was) coming out with that new phone on the same day his movie was released b/c it was stealing his thunder. Just like all Government entities it immediatly started to grow accompanied by the constant cry of "we need more money".
It's now the 3rd biggest employer in the World with a staff of 1.33 million and a budget for 2007 of $210 Billion.
In case your wondering the worlds biggest employer is the Chinese army.
Now don't forget that England has a population of about 60 Million, so if we transpose these figures over to Americas population of 300 million it'll cost about $1 Trillion a year. Of course if you factor in Government waste and incompetence it'll be a lot higher. If Haliburton are put in charge, it will probably bankrupt the Country.0 -

One other thing that needs to be mentioned when referencing the "huge" numbers of uninsured in this country,.........a certain part of that is made up of people who "choose" to be uninsured! Many younger folks in their twenties, and thirties, think they are immortal, and don't want to "waste" disposable income on such things as insurance. They figure if something bad happens, they will just go to the ER. Also I personally know of folks that don't insure themselves, or even pay the reduced rate through an employer for the same reason, plus,............that nasty insurance payment would cut into their beer, cigarette, lottery ticket, movie, and eating out everyday money! Lets not act like everyone that does not have health insurance, is some wonderful hard-working responsible soul, that just CAN'T afford coverage. 0
