ATV Question
I am in the market for an ATV. I am leaning towards a Polaris Sportsman 500 EFI for my property in Colorado. Any thoughts or suggestions on this unit, or is there another ATV I should consider for less money? Main use is utility, some trail riding and hunting trips to the high country.

Guys and gals...I am really looking at getting me a utility ATV (Honda Rancher or Kawasaki Prairie).
The questions that I have are:
1. How good are the Electronic Shift models or would you stick with a manual shift?
2. How useful is the 4X4 option versus the 4X2?
Most of my time will be on trails that are fair to good (logging roads in Arkansas and ranch land in Texas) with some mud thrown in...the trails are just too narrow for my F350.0 -
I bought a 2y.o. Polaris 500 Sportsman last year and love it. I use it as a utility vehicle on the property. I would like to slow it down by changing pulleys. Is there such a thing as aftermarket pulleys? Will this be a huge job where I need to go to the dealer?

We bought the kids a Yamaha Breeze 125 4-wheeler a few years ago and now I want to sell it . I have listed it on flea bay but I have people asking about a title for it . Do all ATV's come with titles ? I cant find this thing ? Grr...Thanks 0 -
Are they worth having? What is a good engine size for a 5'9" guy? I havent ridden one in a while but I am looking at {elsewhere} and they are cheap. 0 -
Looking at 2005 Artic cat 500 4X4, Grinds when you try to put in gear. otherwise mint for 2000.00.
Deal or no?
What could it be and guesstimate on repair cost.

I think CanAm is the best but I am not willing to shell out that much.
That said,what do you guys think about Honda,Kawa,Suzuki,Polaris,ect.?
I want 4wd,IRS and shaft driven.
500cc is more than enough for me...I think?

For any of you mechanics or atv enthusiasts on here.
What may cause an atv to bog down in mid/high gears. Its a 99' Kodiak 400.0 -
Why do you need a speedometer? It's just something more to go wrong. LED screen? Why? I look at these $16,000 utility vehicle and I think "why not just buy a truck". Don't get me wrong. A $8000 used gator, side-by-side, or utv is handy, but 16k for one that reaches 65mph? T
Keep this up and the feds are going to regulate the heck out of all them.

2 of my good friends have Honda Rancher 400's, great bike the ESP works awesome and much easier than manual, also has auto and can switch between 4x2 and 4x2, 4x4 is a great help going through anything ruff, mudd, snow 0 -
Nothing beats a Suzuki King Quad 700 EFI... Got the best ride, without being too soft. Fires right up even in 0 dgree weather. Plus no choke, carbs to mess with.. Better ergonomics. Very torquey. Electronic locker in front, that even steers great when in 4 wheel drive(easy to turn). I tried out a 650 prairie, 500 and 700 polaris, 650 artic cat, 650 honda rincon and a grizzly... All of them new and thought the king quad was the best of the bunch.Thats my choice. 0 -

ATVs are just like pickup trucks some will tell you Chevy is the best, some will say Dodge, and some will same Ford and so on. The best thing to do is just go out and try a few different ones and see witch one you like best, because after all your the one who has to pay and ride it. Don't let anybody sell you any crap that one is better than the other. Because I am sure the best one they say is the one they have!! 0 -
Electronic shift is garbage. Gotta have the 4 wheel drive. And you need to get either a Suzuki or Can Am. 0 -
Electric shift is great, but an automatic is even better. We have two that are automatic shift with electric shift into and out of 4WD. Wife and I both just love them. 0 -
Get an old Suzuki Samari. 4 wheel drive plus a roof and heater. 0 -

get the kawasaki prairie, 360cc should do for what type of riding you described, but you can go bigger if you think you need the power 0 -
My expierence, the honda foreman with the electric shift is a fine bike. They are not fast, they are however a mule in the field, and a goat on the trail. I've rode with many people with the electric shift, and have never seen any of them have problems. The hondas do not give big ground clearence such as the prarie, or suziki, or polaris, they are lowered center of gravity, and handle easier in tight spaces in the woods. I've seen no one with an electric shift have problems, but that does not mean that some don't have problems with them. I have seen many with the automatic shifts that are belt driven tranny's such as the prarie and so on have problems when the belt got wet. My opinion, the honda while not the fastet, handles better, and is pretty much bullet proof. The shift on the fly 4wd is a nice addition. You will not realize how much you will use it. 0 -

Looks like it couldn't get around it.[8D] Seriously, the banshee is a decent bike, its not a good bike for the country in which I live though. I know of a lot of people that got hurt on them, of course they were trying to do stuff they should not have tried. It takes a bit of space to wind the banshee out, space not avaliable in the hill country.0 -
I don't ride the Honda very much. The past couple atv crashes I've had has been on the Honda. So I don't ride it if I can help it.
Banshee are not slow and don't take alot of room to whine out. I have Banshee that will do over 90 in less than 300 feet. I've had one's that will do over a 100 in the 1/8 mile. This one here will do a just under 70 at 300 feet.
I've never lost a drag race on this bike to anything. No races were even close. I've even beating 450r's and a built 727 Raptor, buy 7 atv lengths in 400 feet closes anything has gotten to me. I got the holeshot and I was just a little bit ahead of him until he hit 5th gear and ran out of gears. Banshee's are 6 gears.
It's on heck of a hill climber too. I've climbed hills on it that only motorcycles could climb.0 -

I guess I should add that I do have a Kawasaki 400 Praire. It's a good atv it's not given me any problems. It wouldn't be my first choice in 4x4's, I just got good deal on it.
Most of it's use now is just pulling drag bikes to and from the strip. Most drag bikes like to overheat so I can't ride it back and forth. Their pulled to the line, started up, raced and shut off then blow it cool with leaf blowers and then pull it back to the trailer. Hopefully with a win.
I think my choice for 4x4, based on reliablity and my exprience with them would be in this order. Honda,Yamaha,Polaris,Suzuki,Can-am,then Kawasaki.
If you plan to do anykind of woods riding with it don't get anything bigger than a 500. I personally would go 350 to 400. Bigger bikes will pull better, but are just too big and heavy for woods.0 -

I have a Rancher 350 I bought new in 2001.Its 2 wheel drive because I was too cheap to pay the 1200 bucks for 4 wheel drive.I have the electric shift but I was leary of it.6 years later,no problem with 2 wheel drive or electrc shift.If I needed to buy another one I would buy one just like I have. 0 -

I've no doubts about your ability at all. I'll tell you what, bring your banshee to KY, and follow me through some trails with me riding my slow moving 450 foreman. I can promise you you'll not have the room to get the banshee unleashed, not without hurting yourself real real bad. Banshee's are great bikes, and very fast bikes. Just like a utility, there are things they are good at, and things they are not.0
