I didn't show my hunting buddy the pics. I first thought it was a kitty cat he has roaming all the property. That will get your blood pressure going in the morning when the flashlight hits it.. Hunting buddy has seen the cat and it is a black panther.. big too..

The dead giveaway that is canine is the open claws in the print.
A cat will not leave a claw print.

That is canine for sure, darn big one too. It isn't a cat because you can see distinct claw marks above the toes, canines can't retract their claws like cats can.

claw marks do not "always" rule out a big cat

triangular heal pad i think does rule cat out.
and at five inches Rules yote out, big dog or wolf i think
and the front toes side by side, I think make it a canine.
    but Im just guessing here.

grey wolf, on a riverbank, in pondrosa pine country? thats my guess.

Well, I found the comb on the ground. Only thing I could compare it to was my Kahr PM-9 which is 5.3" long. It was just short of it a little bit.

Without any location (state, etc) info, my first guess is wolverine. Did you locate other tracks to measure stride? Bear cub?

Definately an animal with set claws. Joe
