This is where the State of MI let's us shoot. Locals call it The Pit. There a formal state run paper range down the road. This is for shooting non-paper and rapid fire shooting.
Would you look at all that trash people leave behind.[:(][:(][V][V][xx(][xx(]SAD
I don't know why everyone thinks that so trashy. It's one of the cleanest shooting ranges I've ever shot considering it's a garbage pit.0 -
Panzerslayer- I've seen three informal ranges like that one closed up because of abuses.
Small contractors dumped their junk and homeowners dumped major appliances and cars. Signs to keep the places clean were shot up
plus other thoughtless and unsafe practices got them closed down.
It's a shame shooters can't police themselves and keep a good thing going.0 -

Panzer-where in Lapeer is that at? I am in Tuscola and may want to check it out. It looks like one I shot at years ago in Ogemaw County.
The range could use some cleanup but I have seen the incredibly disgusting messes that some slobs have left in Michigan.
For those who don't know, in Michigan, many slobs dump all kinds of crap at road ends and in state lands. The DNR is at skeleton crews because of the slashes our democratic governor made to the department. Democrats always talk about protecting the environment but this governor was born in Canada so I'm not sure she even cares. So much for the smarts of Michigan voters, they elected her twice!
In 1929, there were 200 Game Wardens in Michigan for it 83 Counties and many wardens stayed long after they were eligible to retire, so you had lots of long time, experienced wardens.
Now there are less than 150 game wardens and they are leaving as soon as they become eligible. This is because they are treated so poorly, and the governor is not replacing them as they retire. They were forced to work 80 hours and only get paid for 76 and "bank" the 4 hours for payment later. This was required for a 2 year period. They also had to take 5 days off without pay a couple years ago. The governor threatened to make the wardens part time by working them 37 hours per week thereby causing them to lose benefits and retirements if they didn't go back and accept the concessions after the contract was already in place.
About 15 new wardens made it through the training program last year and there was a hiring freeze on for several years before that so the state isn't even keeping up with the losses through atrition. The governor took millions out of the DNR's funding to balance the state's budget.
Troopers were also just forced to make concessions or the governor was going to start laying off troopers. Meanwhile the state continues many worthless projects and those that benefit the governors sacred cows. And the citizens of Michigan continue to suffer, but they have no one to blame but themselves.
As for me, I'm about ready to move...0 -

Well you see that's the thing. There is nothing dumped there. If you look there are no appliances or cars or anything left there. All there is are a few shot up milk jugs, boxes and other assorted targets. Nothing that a few minutes of garbage patrol can't pick up. Besides you don't expect it to be perfectly manicured after a day of shooting do you?? Even a Cadillac needs to be cleaned after driving down a dirt road.0
