Hey guys I have a 70 Chevelle SS454 that had about 6,000 miles on a rebuild when the crank kfb'd. Started out as a column shift SS454 with a TH400. By next summer it should be a 502 (GM zz502 crate engine) and a 5 speed manual (TKO-600). If you guys are interested I will keep you up to date with pics.........

Looks great, love to see old cars git a new lease on life.
As for pump gas I have never had any trouble with it (not sure why) guess everything just worked.
Running a 427 , closed LS6 heads,12-1 pistons, 600 flat tappet cam.
Car ran on pump in 1979 when we raced her (7.0 @ 98 mph 1/8 mile track)
and still drinks from the pump today.0 -
The engine bay is almost done being detailed, tilt column installed. I also had the new 5 speed painted and cleared. And the block has been machined for 4 bolt splayed main caps for the middle 3 which is good for about 1000 HP.

Many years ago I was a hotrodder. Mostly small block Chevy's. Can't do it anymore. Don't have enough $$$$. Though I still have a '68 truck 4 bolt 350 block, a set of worked balanced rods, polished crank (never run) and several sets of 300HP heads.
Someday maybe.

Thought I would post up a few pics of the engine work. I havent updated since July and progress has been slow but there is some forward movement. The engine should be done within the next week and then it waits to go on the dyno. The new steering column and four speed pedals are in and I have started to Dynamat the floors.

I saw the engine dynoed today at Speed Performance Engineering in Wauconda, Illinois. These guys are really good at what they do. They have the cleanest shop I have ever seen, are a family business, and have been arounf for 30-40 years. They are going to tinker with it a little more to see if they can get some higher numbers. So far the best is 551 HP @ 5400 and 601 TQ @ 4000. I found it awesome that the engine burns 3 gallons of gas just to idle for an hour.0 -

Made some progress on Saturday the 18th. The engine is now in along with the TKO-600. Wow what a pain in the ass that was. It was nice having five different sets of eyes watching to make sure everything went good. A big thanks to My dad, brother, uncle, and friend Paul from the department. I am now actually motivated again and with the weather getting warmer I should be updating this thread much more.

I see you took my advice early on and went to Speed Performance! My engine is pictured on their business card. I've known those guys for almost 30 years, long before Joe came to work there! I'm glad you went there, you won't be disappointed!

Ive been wanting to get TKO to replace my M21 before I end up breaking it. Did you go with the .64 or the .82? Did you have to do some modding to the trans tunnel? What kinda gear are you running? Would love to hear your thoughts on it when you get it on the road.
I see your in Chitcago area,are ya gonna bring her up to Da Grove and see what she does[8D]

Yeah, I cant wait to get it running again it has been about 3 years since i last drove it. I ended up getting the .64 TKO 600 from Classic Chevy 5 Speed. They sell complete install kits for all sorts of cars. Yes the trans tunnel will have to be modified. I am running a 3.55 posi, I will be sure to update this post as things move forward. I have run it at the grove before with the old motor. My best was a 12.2 at 112 on street tires.
