Mike Vick Poll...
It's obvious that Vick is going to do some time for his crime's, and I personally think that he should receive the maximum sentence. But upon finishing his sentence, should he be allowed to play in the NFL ever again? My vote, hell no. Whatta yall say.

Suppose, for whatever reason, I committed a crime, say I robbed a gas station or maybe something not as bad, maybe I was carrying a pistol without a permit from the nanny and got caught. Should I be after serving time allowed to be in the same trade I was in before I committed that crime? Maybe we should just kill all criminals? Or ship them overseas, like another Australia or something. 0 -

Once he has served his time, he had "paid his debt to society" for his crime. He should be able to return to as normal a life as possible. But, if he serves eighteen months, he is probably done. As a quarterback anyway. For a quarterback to miss two years and then come back is extremely difficult. If a team wants to accept the risks, he probably has enough talent to be a special teams player. 0 -
I think he should have the right to apply to be reinstated and pursue football as a career again, and I think all of the NFL teams should have the right to not hire him. 0 -
He should be allowed to because he will have served his time but he never will.No team will pick him up after this.He wont even be able to play arena football or get in the CFL. I dont wish a rested second on that man so I hope he does hard time,hope he spends most of his money on lawyer fees and comes out with new feelings he has to explore if you catch my drift and has to get a normal job and realise what he gave up being a heartless dumb a$$. 0 -

You are making the arguement that he is a quarterback. He is nothing more than an average running-back that occasionally throws the ball.
I say he should be allowed to play if anybody wants him, but, half of his salary should go to the animal shelters in the area where the team he plays for is.0 -
screw him, he should be made an example for every other multi millionaire sports figure, kids have and always will look up to sports heroes, what a example he is for today's youth, if it where one of us we would loose our career our home, probably our marriage, not to mention our voting and gun rights, if i was convicted of a felony regardless of paying my debt i still would not be able to do what i do for a living, he should have thought it out a bit more the p.o.s. 0 -

What about Pete Rose....surely his crime was not as severe as killing dogs as sport...and punishing the losers quite violently....He was banned from Baseball...the hall of fame....forever. Just for gambling. I think Vick (that could have been a positive role model) should be banned. Following after the footsteps of his brother. 0 -

You are of course correct, though I'll rate his running abilities better than average. He has proven incapable of grasping the QB position at the NFL level. Everyone in the league figured him out pretty quick. Put the heat on with a pass rush and he'll either make a more than likely bad passing decision or he'll take off, in which case they have guys watching for that and, though he's a good enough runner to still pose a threat, most of the time they get him. As I've said before, who's going to take a chance on a no brain has been that's a PR nightmare, and has been out of the game at least the better part of 2 seasons? There's a LOT of seriously good competition for NFL jobs. He's no longer needed or is a valuable commodity and has made his last play in Pro football.0 -

All this discussion of him doing max time is a moot point. His lawyers did not allow him to plead to any offense that requires a manditory prison sentence. If they did they would not have been doing their job.
The Govt. does it's best to not have to go through the time and expense of a trial. They will meet in the middle with a minimum of prison time.
As to his returning to the NFL....He is an entertainer. A high paid
piece of grizzle that plays a game that is worth Billions of dollars.
There are professionals that have done things as bad or worse and they are still playing.
The guy is a waste of talent, but he will still end up being a rich waste of talent because someone will pick him up after he is done with his legal battles.0 -

I believe the charges he's faced with are "FELONEY" charges...Do you think he should be allowed to own a firearm after he has paid his "DEBT"? If he's never been convicted of a "violent/gun-related" crime,(if he's been proven to have shot a dog,without being in danger of it, it should count as a gun charge)He should be given all 2nd amendment rights..

Then what point is there in accepting a plea bargain? The reason a plea bargain is offered and accepted is because the prosecuter knows he might not win (and he wants to expedite things) and the defendant knows he might not win (and he is willing to trade for a lesser punishment, giving up the chance to go scot-free.) If a man took a maximum sentence in a plea bargain, he'd be an idiot. If that's what is offered, go to trial and make the state prove it.
All this said, I think what Vick did is vile and indicative of a truly sick mind. Anyone who enjoys watching such a thing is morally crippled.0 -

He will prob plea bargain for 4 or 5 years and actually serve 18-24 months. I think he should be allowed to play if he serves his time.
Even so, 2 to 3 years out of the game and his career is pretty much over.0 -

Handgunner - I am stating the fact that he is a quarterback. Sure, he is not the typical quarterback who stays in the pocket and throws or simply hands off to a running back. Simply because he is not the type of quarterback that we envision, he plays that position. I personally couldn't care less what happens to him, but someone who receives a felony should not automatically be unemployable. If an employer wants to take the media hit and hire, so be it.
BTW, I find it both sad and ironic that some people want to hang someone who participates/organizes dog fights and even kills those dogs who are not of quality fighting material, but does not see anything wrong with an individual sucking the brains out of an unborn child.0 -

In this case, the state had enough. They reportedly had not only numerous co-defendants testimony, but photos as well. There was even a suggestion of video. That said, he would take a plea deal to prevent the full details of what went on from becoming public record. If you think his "good name", as he called it several days ago, is besmirched and public opinion is against him from what we now know, just imagine what it would be if the details that we don't know became public by coming out in a trial.0 -

True, Straw and a number of other high profile athletes with any number of substance abuse and/or other "personal" flaws are certainly poor role models at best. There's all kinds of guys like Barry Sanders & Marshall Faulk with multiple children sired out of wedlock by various women around the country. We had a 1st round pick named Larry Phillips, a RB out of Nebraska. He was a horse of a back with tons of potential. His problem was beating up women. It finally cost him a very promising and lucrative future in the NFL. IMO this dog fighting thing is worse if for no other reason than the 'Hos Phillips beat up had the choice of whether to have relations with him or not. The dogs had no such choice with Vick and his Homeys. Guys like Straw are really their own worst enemies and seldom, if ever, physically hurt anyone. They of course don't do their loved ones and team mates any good, but they don't cause defenseless animals unspeakable tortures and deaths.0
