Glock or XD
I'm looking at getting either a Glock or XD. More specifically the Glock 26 or the XD9. Looking for some ups and downs that will lean me in the best direction...thanks

What are you getting it for? If it's for a self/home defense weapon, stay away from 9mm. Get something either in .357sig, .40S&W, or .45ACP. 0 -
Have not owned the 9mm's but have had a Glock 21 and currently own an XD 45 and I will take the XD any day of the week. Way more ergonomically friendly, better accuracy in my opinion. Never had a FTF or FTE with either though. 0 -
Between the two, I'd pick XD. I own XD-9 now, but didn't make my purchase until I had a chance to fire from both Glock and XD, just liked XD better. And it is indeed pretty accurate. 0 -
I'm getting the weapon for self defense/CC. Does the shorter barrel have more of a kick? Referring to either the 9mm or .40 in either the Glock or the XD? 0 -
They're both great guns, but given the price difference, I'd go with the XD. I've shot both and just hit better with the XD. Your mileage may vary. 0 -
Look into the XD9 SUBcompact...you'll get a short mag (for CC) and a longer one (for practice or home-defense). You're not going to notice appreciable difference in recoil for that much shorter barrel, IMHO. The XD line is definitely the way to go. I have the XD45 Compact and looking to get the XD9 Sub very soon.

not much support for the Glock. i carry one every day in .40 its a great gun never had a problem, but the XD just doesnt fit my hand at all. depends on which you are more comfortable with. 0 -
I have owned a Glock 26 for over 10 years. It remains one of my favorite firearms. I also own an XD but not the model you are inquiring about.
I like each for different reasons. The only real way to make the choice is to fire both and buy the one that fits and feels right in YOUR hands. What works for me may not work for you.
Both are excellent firearms so either will serve you well.....0 -
I own both. If I were going to buy another one I would get another Glock, just because it fits me better. Don't let anyone tell you 9mm won't work on 2 legged critters. 0 -

Just a preferance. I learned to shoot with a Glock 17. I'm more accurate with the 17 than any other gun. I've owned/shot many and the Glock has always been my favorite. I've never had any problems with Glocks either. HK USP would a close tie me though.0 -
I would also say the XD compact models are great. I have the XD45 compact with 10rd and 13rd mags. It is my everyday CC gun. 0 -
I've got the 9mm Glock, although I use a 10mm Glock for self defense, the 9mm round is cheap and fun to shoot. Load it up Federal Hydro Shocks and you're good to go. 0 -
I have a .40 Cal Service Model XD and I trust it as much as I do my Glocks. Plus it has the best point of aim of any handgun I have. They did have some problems with the slides rusting at one time, but I think they have worked that problem out. Springfield or Glock, you cant go wrong IMHO. 0 -
Have and XD and HK USP 40. I personally like the HK over the XD. But the XD is a good gun. I'm not a big fan of Glock. 0 -

I own both, an xd compact and some full size glocks. i prefer the glocks, based on how they fit my hand and how they feel. i shoot better with glocks too, but im sure thats because ive practiced more with glocks. no complaints on the xd though! 0 -
Ill also say that the 9mm compact xd's recol feels like a .40. No experience with compact glocks. 0 -
I've owned both, and still own a glock. I did not like the way the XD shot. Like the sw99 it felt great in my hand until it was time to shoot it. The angle felt wrong (even though it is supposed to mimic the 1911 it still felt different), the trigger was ATTROCIOUS! I sold it after a few months and bought a glock and haven't looked back yet! 0 -
I carry the Glock 26. Only problem is the grip is too short unless you have midget hands. Fortunately you can now buy extensions with +1 and +2 giving a max of 12 + 1 in the tube. The extension makes the grip long enough for an average size hand. The recoil is a little more that I like so I had a ported competition barrel fitted, tamed it down from a wildcat to a puddy cat- and I use HydraShok 124 +P+.
ps: the 26 with competition ported barrel is a tack driver out to 25 yards. Over 25 yards and it's hard to justify shooting in self defense, you usually have an escape. Keep in mind, firing a guna at person should be the last resort.0 -

XD9. I like everything about it. Glocks, I don't like the way they fit my hand. However I would recomend that you try them both on. 0 -
