What is the point of Unarmed Officers? Only in NY.......

I saw the video of these shootings this morning on tv. I am sure somebody will be posting a link to the video pretty soon.
It is pretty grim. The video was taken from a surveillance camera on the street, the camera is probably twenty feet high.
It is grainy, but vivid enough. You can see the gunman running down the sidewalk. On the other side of the street is the unarmed "auxiliary" policeman. He is running on the sidewalk, about fifty feet behind the perp. There are cars parked along the curb, bumper to bumper, along both sides of the street.
The perp sees the cop, and runs across the street towards the cop. The cop stops in his tracks and hides behind a car. In two seconds the gunman runs up to the cop and shoots him down from five feet away. He shot the policeman six times in the chest and back, as the policeman knelt down in a pathetic attempt to hide.
The second unarmed policeman is seen, running up the sidewalk behind the first cop. As the gunman sees the second cop, the cop runs across the street, and he, too, stops and crouches down behind a parked car in a pathetic attempt to hide. The gunman runs back across the street and can be seen shooting the cop one time in the head.
If you don't have a gun, what is the point of crouching down and hiding behind a car as the gunman runs up towards you?
That is the time to do a 180, and cry out loud, "Feets, Don't Fail Me Now!!!"0 -
On this mornings news the former NYC manager was on discussung the incident. Two times he said illigal gun, once said the gun fascilitated the crime, and concluded with "something needs to be done about these guns". 0 -
Unarmed???
What idiot started that?
Oh wait, it IS NY. [V]
Still sad news.0 -
its why they didnt give them guns. they were probably too stupid. 0 -

Not just in NYC. D.C. has several hundred reserve police officers and only a couple are allowed to carry guns, and they were former full time officers. All of the reserve officers have arrest powers and carry everything else on their belts except guns. Because of my former cop background and what I do now full time, a DC Commander asked me to join the reserves. I looked into it recently and sent the Chief a letter requesting that I be allowed to enter service as a Level 1 Reserve, which is armed. Also sent him all of my training certificates, etc. I have not heard back from him yet. There is no way I would work as a cop unarmed.0 -
1) Unarmed cops.. yup, that's smart.
2) I am pretty sure that the criminal bought his gun legally (sarcasm here)
3) Frankly, from what I experienced, most cops are bullies. At least most of those whom I met.0 -
Putting all the blame on the gun again..lol shows you what kind of idiots are running the show in NY. 0 -

You must be seeing things, they are not rent-a-cops. From the article: Auxiliary officers are civilians who conduct patrols wearing uniforms nearly identical to regular police.
Auxiliary cops are not rent-a-cops, rent-a-cops are paid security guards. Auxiliary cops serve their depts honorably just like volunteer firefighters do. Volunteer firefighters make up 70% of all American firefighters. When one of them get killed in the line of duty, do you disparage them also?0 -

And are you suggesting that the "unarmed cops" were bullying the gunman, thus provoking his attack on them? Judging from your listed occupation, I'm hardly surprised by your assessment of law enforcement officers. Next time someone breaks into your house, rapes your girlfriend, or abducts your child, why don't you call one of your fellow "freelance slackers" for help? [V]0 -
Every time I have been in contact with cops, I came out with very negative perception of them.
I used to rent a townhouse with few people when I was going to University. It was in Deerfield, Illinois. I was driving an old beaten up Nissan Centra. You would NOT belive how many times I would get stopped with 2-3 squad cars behind me only for them to ask me "What are you doing in this neighbourhood", "Do you live in this neighbourhood", "Can we check out your car?"
In Chicago, a police officer was writing a parking ticket to my car. I called out to him "Hey, officer", as I was running in haste to explain myself, the meanie went for his gun (it was early afternoon, and I was not wearing any baggy clothes). Then he tried to explain to me that it was on an instinct, but if I want to start the fight with him, I am welcome - I will decide when the fight starts, but he will decide when it is finished.
Recently, in Lake County Illinois, on a gas station, I was involved in a verbal altrication. Police was called, in fact I insisted on a police being called to settle the issue. FOUR guys, in armored wests showed up, surrounded me, one of them, a fat son of a sow, kept telling me to keep my hands visible and not to come to his partner any closer then 4 feet. The altrication was solved, without ANY problems, true. However, I do not like feeling intimidated.
When I came to USA, I lived in a pretty bad Hood. In fact, I was the only white guy living there, I saw well enough how brave the cops are. (Also so how fat are they). Unless there is a situation 4:1 they call for back up. Even if they are armored and armed to the teeth.
My wife got stopped for speeding, and had a cop hint that if she goes on a date with her, he won't write her a ticket, and if she refuses, he will make the offence even worse.
Frankly, I am under impression that they are indeed all bullies and crooks. Palatine, Illinois. I have a property there. The police is always visible, and the drugs are plentiful. Buffalo Grove, Illinois.
The police station is about 2 miles away from Buffalo Grove High, yet in the same school, girls as wearly as 14 are given drugs for free. For the complaints, the parents get and answer "We are aware of the situation, and we are monitoring it closely". What the hell are those thugs doing being paid $40000 a year if we have DRUG PROLIFIRATION in high school???
As a person who spent almost 3 years of my life in the hood, being pretty much a "blue eyed brother", I can tell you that the cops are just as crooked as the government, and just as much bullies as the thugs. For example, in a local dive called "My place", the cops NEVER paid for dinner. Of course, in the same dive, you could get whatever you wanted. Some dust, or some action...
You can see them getting off at the right to wear a gun. I am under
impression that people go to become cops (not criminal investigators, but just cops), to compensate for not having any power over their own destiny. I am also under impression that people who become SWAT snipers do love to kill.
I have NOTHING but negative things to say about police in Chicagoland, and Illinois State Police. Lets just say that I have NEVER been harrassed by cops that much, even when I went back to Russia recently and worked there for a contract.
Frankly, if I had a choice, and if I had a problem, I would much rather call few guys from my old "hood" rather then police.
Remember, it was POLICE at Ruby Ridge, it was POLICE at WAKO. Frankly, it was also Police who shot my friend Keith because those retards THOUGHT (I doubt that they are capable of such complex actions), that he had a gun.
I am suggesting nothing. I do can testify to the fact that a guy in a bar shoved me, and when I shoved him back, knocking him down, and suggsted we step outside, he immediately started screaming that he is a cop.
When my parents came to USA, their appartment was burglarised, and the police didn't show up for 4 hours. When my dad was attacked in a bar that he played, police didn't show up for 3 hours.
When I got stabbed, while trying to protect a girl in Chicago from getting raped, the first thing the police did when they did show up was to put me in cuffs. Later they released me and gave me first aid, but they NEVER appologised for handcuffing me.
They are less efficient then Soveit Police, since you can compare the crime rates in USSR and in USA, and that is DESPITE the money being spent on them. Their inefficiency can only be compared to their levels of corruption.
They are bullies, at least most of them. And they DEFINITELY get off on the power that is being given to them. COme to a police man and swear at him. Legally, he has no right to attack you, check out what will happen to you, and you will see the true face of the police.
Frankly, the police in Illinois is the main reason why I think a man should be packing some heat, either at home, or at his person. Since
by the time police get there, it will be all over. The only thing the police can do is grab some small fry and put to jail some guys who can't afford a good lawyer.0 -

AS far as being a "slacker", I do have to say that I started from the bottom in USA. Living pretty much in the "hood" where I was the only white guy. I own 3 properties now, making $50000 a year. I do not brag. I am well aware that most people on this board are probably richer then I am and more glory to them.
I clawed from burning garbage at night in the local package company in the "hood" and working in the warehouse to being a Network Administrator. In 12 years. For a person who came to USA knowing very little english language, I am satisfied with my progress for now.
Most of my friends are more successful then me, so you can call me anything you want. However, I would strongly reccomend that you do not ever insult my friends. I trust them more then I trust police, army, fbi, cia, ss, politicians put together. Then again I trust my cat more then I trust those organizations.0 -

From the way you write, you sound like you are from eastern Europe. If you don't like it here, why not just go back home?0 -
at least Columbia gives them sling shots 0 -
Here, Here!!
I second the motion, if you are being treated so badly wherever you happen to be now, go back to where you came from.
The only common denominator in all the scenarions you mentined are you. Maybe you have a problem, comrade!

On one thread you rail against the corruption within our government.......in another thread you seek to give that same government more power.

Yes, I am from Eastern Europe. As far as me "being a problem", well. Lets see, as I said I clawed my way from the "hood", I never been arrested, I never been under suspicion and the biggest crime I commited was.... a speeding ticket.
As far as me going back home... I have no home. My country no longer exists. I have nowhere to return to. And if I though that it would make US police better, I would go back home in an instance. But no matter if I go home, cops ain't gonna get smarter, leaner, less corrupt and less of a jack booted SS thugs.
Incident with Keith didn't involve me. I wasn't the one who got shot.
Oh, BTW, when two guys were getting rather fresh with a girl, where was the brave police? Probably eating doughnuts for free in a local Dunkin Doughnuts, as if cops aint lardasses to begin with. They were nowhere to be found. I had to do THEIR job of protecting a citizen, and I was the one who got handcuffed for my trouble.
And if the law is passed about some gun ban, guess who will come after you and your guns without ANY sympathy for you? Yup, the cops.
The reason I have a gun at home is that I can get to it before I can get a cop to patrol the neighbourhood at night.0 -

Your country no longer exists? I do not remember hearing of a country being nuked off the face of the earth. It may have a different name or something, but I am sure it is still there, full of people. Sounds like you are from the old Soviet Union? Russia and all those former com bloc countries are still there. Please feel free to return to your "wonderful country". I have been to many of those countries and most of them are crap holes, the worst place in the US is better than 90% of them. Which is why so many around the world want to come here. (Poland is one exception, it is a nice place with nice people.)0 -
Looks like the topic changed from unarmed to idiots to personal. To get back on track... I live in NY and Not everyone in the state is a "mac15 crackhead wannabe", not everyone in New York is Liberal and All legal Gun Owners in New York can't stand Hillary and her tree huggin' parade or any other advocate for gun control. You have to have a CCW permit to own a Handgun in NY, But your not allowed to carry a handgun anywhere in the 5 Burroughs without a special permit. Now this is what kills me, It's a 1 year mandatory sentance for illegal possesion of a handgun in NYS. Who Cares? The Law is not working for the average citizen! The worst place in the state to be without gun is "NYC",But everybody and there sisters have one, except the guy that's legal! I'll rest with the old saying," I'd rather have 12 trial me , Than Have Six Carry Me"! ... This is my weapon . There are many like it... But this one is mine....Without Me it is nothing ....Without it ... I am Nothing!

Classy, guys, classy. Two guys who are trying to help out the regular police, who are doing volunteer work in the community to keep others safe, are shot dead while in uniform, and you're saying they're "too stupid" to be issued a gun.
You know, our soldiers, sailors, and marines volunteer to do a job, and while they're paid it's a very small amount, and they wear uniforms. Do you watch those internet videos of them being picked off by snipers or blown up by IEDs and laugh and joke about how dumb they are?0 -
mlincoln, your right! But some people will never get it... the world has been de-sensitized to murder and slaughter, and thats all that it was! It's a sad time and world we live in [:(]... lucky for me , I can remember a better time!

I wasn't calling you anything that you didn't already call yourself. In this country, a slacker is generally known as a do-nothing, lazy bum. Maybe slacker is the name you applied to royalty in Russia or wherever, but I was just going by what you listed as your occupation on your profile.
It's really too bad that you have had such negative experiences with law enforcement officers. I've never lived in Illinois, but I expect that if all the citizens of that state shared your experiences, I'd have heard about it by now. As someone else pointed out, the common denominator in all the occurrences is you. Maybe you've just got one of those guilty looking faces or maybe your attitude is noticeable from a distance. Regardless, I have had MANY encounters with law enforcement personnel in Louisiana and I have NEVER had one anywhere similar to what you have recalled.
No, I've never been arrested either. Nor have I had a gun pulled on me. Nor have I punched anyone in a bar. Nor do I frequent high-crime areas of my community. I guess we're just from different worlds. Whatever. I can only pray that you don't ever NEED help from a cop who may have read your words here on this board. Except that the cops I know would come to your aid regardless of how you feel. Yeah, there are lots of cops here on GB--and I'll bet not one is a bully, although one or two may have consumed a doughnut or two.
Your statement that you don't trust: "police, army, fbi, cia, ss, politicians put together" sure makes me wonder if you are an anarchist. If you had rather live by the "law of the jungle," you might be more at home in another society. Although the US is bad in spots and at times, it's still far more orderly than most of the options. And since you're here by choice, you might choose elsewhere just as well.0 -
It is not the issue of Anarchy. It is that I do not like having armed people near me, while I am unarmed, that's number one.
I do not have a "guilty" face, though I admit that decked out in black leather, denum, with chains and spikes on my jacket, I do not "look" like a model citizen. My wife also doesn't have a "guilty face". Yet, she was harrased by a cop few times too, only 1 year after she came from the Homeland.
Let me explain to you the note about "power corrupts". Being a policeman, or militiaman (russian policeman), in service of the govermnent and being endowed with powers above an beyond what is allowed to a citizen, is definitely "having power" over others.
Most people will succum to temptation, for Buddha, Tao and Christ teach us that Flesh is weak.
I object to that. I resent that, Who the heck is that policeman to have power over me? Is he better educated? I dunno. Is he smarter then me? I dunno. Is he a more honorable person then me, I dunno. Maybe he is all of those things. Maybe not. Until I KNOW otherwise, I will mistrust that person. he has power of life and death over me. Should he choose to shoot me, he can, and he can claim that he thought that I went for a gun (like happend to my friend Kieth).
He is in position to plant drugs on me, or anything else. Why should I trust him? Why should I also consider him brave, when he is armored, armed, and as soon as he gets into something he screams fo back up. Yeah, calling 3 squad cars to stop a metalhead returning from a concert just because he looks that he is "too poor and not white enough for Deerfield, Illinois", yeah, thats really fragging brave. Searching the car without a warrant "You know we can get the warrant in about 6 hours, of course, you will have to wait while we get it." Yeah, thats respecting my rights.
When I was still living in "the hood", and getting attacked since "what the heck, are you, cracker, doing here. Slummin for some fun?", not a SINGLE TIME a policeman came to my aid. Not a SINGLE TIME was a policeman around. Guys who took me under my wing - yes, they resqued my behind more then few times. Police, once, even saw when I was getting myself home, all blooded and busted up, and didn't even stop to check on me.
I am a law obiding citizen. Make no mistake about it. I preffere to have as little contact with police, fbi, and that whole bunch as little as I can get.
It is not the issue of anarchy. I don't trust people whom I have seen breaking the rules and brutalising others and bullying others.
I wish nothing bad on them. I just want to deal with them as little as possible. Want to search my car? Fine. Search it and let me get away from your presence as fast as I can. Want to check me for knives? Sure, waste your time, I carry no weapons on me. Want to check me for drugs and boos? Sure. You done, officer? Didn't find anything. Excellent, I am going away now.
I didn't have MANY dealings with cops. However, EACH OF THEM was negative. In NYC, in Chicago, in Northern Illinois (Cook and Lake county). I would much rather that the whole bunch of them get some real job done - get drug dealers from Deerfield high (I live there), get drug dealers from Buffalo Grove high (I own property there, I would much rather it not drop in price). Get REAL JOB done and stop harrasing people.0 -

The rent-a-cop volunteered to be there right? If he took the job w/o considering the consequences, he was just dumb. That still doesn't justify murder, but I sure wouldn't take such a dumb deal. 0 -
Rent a cop or do-gooder, paid or otherwise, not a cop,no gun, not a cop! not a cop trying to do a cops job, for the payment of making believe I'm a cop, hide from a gun toting perp that is bearing down on you, not very cop like."Dance two close to the fire, you are certanly to get burned"
Bring nothing to a gun fight????????????????????
