Who speeds
There was a post awhile back about who do you notice speeding the most. Since that thread I have watched and payed attention to who acts seven kinds of stupid on the highway.
Overwhelming odds are in favour of the early 30's to late 40's white business men in their BMW's, Lexus, Benzs, ect driving at very high speeds and doing the stupidest crap on the road. That group has by far the most idiots I see on the highway.

Speeding is relative. I consider speeding to be going at least 5-10 mph faster than the traffic is moving. When I go to work, traffic averages 65-70, I do about that. The posted is 55. No Lexus here! 0 -

I agree with your assessment on speeding, but when traffic is flowing at 75 and this turd passes you like you're standing still then cuts across 3 lanes of traffic cutting more then one person off making folks slam on their brakes something is wrong. On my daily drive to work I see this numerous times daily, and everyone seems to be what I said above.0 -
I run 5 mph over with the Taurus, so that works out to 75 on the way to work. With the motorcycle, it's 10 over so I don't get ran over. The pick-up runs the speed limit, 13mpg makes you not in a hurry to get anywhere. 0 -
No, not me. Never.[;)][;)][;)] 0 -
I try not to but you got to go with the flow. 0 -
I try to keep it under control. While on vacation last week I had the opportunity to drive though Atlanta a couple of times. If you were in the HOV lane and not going at least 75 someone was right on your tail.
I hate city driving.0 -
[8D]-I travel at 65 mph in the mid/rt lanes and I always have people jesturing at me, I've been stoped twice---
--I was very polite, both guys weren't able to drive away--
--I don't have a temper-

I am a white businessman and I drive an S-Class Mercedes, but at 55 years I am a bit outside of your age range. Speeding? Only if I am trying to keep up with Mrs K in her ML500! BMW and Audi drivers seem to be in the biggest hurry among the folks I see out on the road. 0 -
It depends. Four to six over is my limit, unless the masses dictate higher speeds.
I'll stand in any court of law and assert that following the posted limit would have been driving at an unsafe speed, if that is the truth [Try driving 55 m.p.h. on I-95; you'll cause an accident].
That said, I drive 3000+ miles a month for my job. Odds are that I'd get popped for speeding, plus the car gets 27mpg at 60mph, so it makes sense to take it easy.0 -
Yep - whenever I can. 0 -
No more than 5 over me, and sometimes a little faster if passing a slow moving semi or a truck or a bus. I am not in a rush to save a few seconds and through dice on my own life and health. And if posted is 45 mph in a construction zone, I'll move over to the right and go as posted, idiots get popped at construction zone speed traps by dozens daily, besides the speed limit is there for a reason. On the highway with 75 mph speed limit I am very happy with going 70-75 -- it's already fast enough.
Idiots that go 80+ mph should be subject to capital punishment for putting lives of other people at risk.0 -
I live in the boonies with very little law enforcement and very lax speeding zones.
I routinely speed in large excesses over the posted limit. BUT so does everyone else, I know that does not make it right however.
I just drove close to the NH border and on I-95, posted 65 was averaging around 85 or better and was just keeping up with traffic.
Saw several cops and saw them go by faster than I was going.
I would say that routinely 15-20 over the posted limit.
1 speeding ticket in 13 years of driving.0 -
I guess I'm what most would call a "lead foot".[8D]
I'm starting to slow considerably due to impaired reflexes and limb function. But, until recently, if on the big road I prefer to run 90-100..if the traffic isn't too heavy. If traffic is heavy I pretty much go with the flow.
Recently got a mini-van (imagine that) with hand controls, and not feeling quite as cocky with that, and running below avg. speed..for now.[;)]0 -
I speed, But I have been trying to watch it as they have been renewing my speeding permit more frequently lately!!! 0 -
5 over is generally my limit. I don't want a ticket and I dont like the idea of wasting gas (you use more gas to overcome air resistance at higher speeds). 0 -
I drive a little fast but I think I'm a careful driver [:D] 0 -
on the highway near the front of my neighbor hood, the posted speed limits is 45, everyone else is doing 65-75, me being a pretty damn new driver, i get all the way to the right, and try to do a couple over, i get honked at alot, but i see no need to get a wreckless driving ticket for doing 20 over posted speed. 0 -
I swear. dad does 20 UNDER!
My brother? 5-10 over, if theres someone that passes him, we play with them, pass them right back. after 2-3 passes they give up usually0 -
I think its more fun to bank a curve at 50mph in a 40mph zone than it is to do even 100mph on a 70mph highway.
More often than not I am speeding when I feel the need assault some curvy roads and feel the Gs, especially if a really fast rock/metal song is on the radio [:D]
If I am late to something I will accelerate like a bat out of hell and weave around slow starters, but I don't do more than 5 over once I get up to speed.
On the highway I just drive whatever the flow of traffic dictates and ignore the silly signs unless I am the only one on the road. Being able to merge effectively is more important (IMO) than obeying a number on a sign, so if crazy city drivers in places like St. Louis and Nashville make me go 75 in a 55, that's what I have to do.0 -
Who speeds?
The question is...who doesn't, the speed limit is SOOOO slow!0 -
Speeding make sence, cuts down on the time spent on the road, it makes you harder to hit, and it feels so good. 0 -
got those concrete divider things instead of a median? see all those scrape marks, that's how they got there
y'know, there's a lot more traffic accidents going on that most ppl think. I got my car towed one time, in Dallas, I was talking to the driver and he said his company gets about 100 tows a day. just his co, not talking about every other co. too. more wrecks than anything else. that's a lot.0 -
Here's a question for you.
As the National speed limit is about 75MPH why can anyone walk into a car showroom and buy a car that can travel at 180MPH?.
Aren't we losing our right to own firearms due to the "Nobody NEEDS a gun that looks evil, has more than a 10 round capacity or is a .50 caliber etc." argument.
Why isn't this argument being applied to cars?0 -

because that's not what they really mean. they're thinking "I don't want you to have a gun" but that sounds too dumb to say, so what are they going to say? "you don't need a gun". otherwise, why would they open their mouth in the first place just to tell you about something they think you don't need.
it's not about what they think is good for you, it's about what they want for themselves. for you not to have a gun.0 -
"on the big road I prefer to run 90-100..if the traffic isn't too heavy. If traffic is heavy I pretty much go with the flow."
- spryor +++
On short trips - less than 50 miles - I set the cruise on the limit and relax. There are no limited-access highways around me.
On long ones - like my run to LA and back last week - I keep my eyes open and go as fast as the car and its' condition permit.
I REALLY like to go fast.

In the mornings with the heavy traffic it is safer to go 80 in a 60 around me. I still have people passing me. I slowed down on the speeding after I was pulled over for doing 78 in a 50. (They gave me a warning on that one). But in rush hour going to work I can't go slower as everyone else is doing 80 and traffic is too heavy. I have had tailgating people so far up my rear we should be married in 4 states.
Going home is a different story as I work 12 hour days and the roads are clear then. I set the cruise at 60 and follow the speed limit relaxing.0 -
Remember when the limit was (55)[xx(]??? GOD!!! I hated that. I always felt as though i could get out and walk faster!! [V] Jeff 0
