New 45 UPDATE!!!
Ok here goes. I have approx $700.00 to spend on a new .45 I want a compact commander size 1911. I perfer the alloy frame (read lightweight). Standard mags. Any suggestions? [;)] SEE BELOW FOR PHOTOS OF NEW 45

Kimber maybe, I looked at some of those,. mango I just got rid of a double stack dont want that big of a handgun it is for CCW purposes. also I really dont like XDs I had a 40 and didnt like it at all. 0 -
Ditto, big mango--but, how 'bout the COMPACT model of the XD45? Still holds 10+1 and has capacity to also accept the 13+1 with grip extension. I just bought one and it is SWEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTT! 0 -

Agreed Kimber is too pricey, I am looking at Para Ord. There are always exceptions to rules, I could find a compact Kimber, Colt, or something similar but no I dont plan to raise my price any. 0 -

Or maybe, with more cash, the Kimber CDP. OLr maybe even the Pro- Carry II in .40S&W.
But for lightweight and 4.25"BBL? No first-time experience.
However, the AMT DAO 45 Backup, with it's 20# trigger, is a safe reliable back-pocket carry piece that will not brreak the bank.
Back to the Colts: Their 3.5" BBL lightweight, an older one, might fit the bill.
Sure, I hate the roll-marks on that one model, but it is not for looks, right?
And it has a nice small grip safety. I can't find a link right now [always happens when you want it, right?

Again, out of your range. all that means is that this guy wants a couple hundred more than you want to spend, but they come up for $550 or so, when someone wants to sell one in a hurry.

i just bought a Para Slim Hawg today, 6+1 capacity 3" bbl 24oz. empty with alloy frame, fits all your descriptions, i'll be waking the neighbors about 10am tomorrow when i run the first rounds through it.. i'll let you know how it does. i looked at the other para's and for the price i think the slim hawg was the best of the para's. i really like the fit to my hands with this auto. 0 -

Hey Big Mango! The Springfield XD is NOT American made. Yes it is an American company so the profits come here to the USA. But it is made in CROATIA! I have one right here in front of me. Looks like a fine pistol- but I still need to shoot it. I ordered extra mags which by the way are kind of pricy too. Even the Micro Mini .45 from S.A. is made in Brasil! Don't be fooled. 0 -

My Rock Island compact has made a very nice concealed carry gun.
It does not have the alloy frame but it really is not that heavy.
They are very very dependable guns and with the money you save you can but a couple thousand rounds of ammo.[:D]0 -

...The 1911 board w/a RI forum is interesting reading on get_r's "rocks"....get_r (and that froum) are about to get my interest up (a little[:D]) about the "rocks"...for a knock about carry gun...get-r is wearing me down on 'em...but I will NEVER give up my Ponies!..[;)]

To be honst the one that I had shot really high, I lowered the front sight and got it into the 10 ring so that problem fixed, then I had to address the FTF and jamming probs, polishing the feed ramp took care of that. So function was no longer an issue, the 14 rd magazine was a bit hard to conceal effectively, and that is my only real complaint, I guess this time I just want something that is more well known and a bit more accurate without having to work on it. The Colt Combat Elite I used to have was extrodinarily accurate right from the box, I wish I could find one of those in my price range even though it isnt a compact. Git-R-DOne, again no offense it was probably the RIA I had that was problematic, I once had 2 Springfields both a 1911 and an XD that I couldn't hit anything with. I bet half or more of the die hard Colt guy's would go to a Rock if thet really took the time to shoot them and learn about them. I can point anyone to a forum that is filled with very happy Rock owners that used to buy nothing but Colt, Kimber, and the likes. The top brass for Armscor/RIA also post there. And any problems (which are relitvely few) that have came up have quickly been taken care of by this top brass, and usually those people have been given extra's (Mags, spring kits,or other items)just for the troubles.
And any problems I have seen arise I have seen in brand new Colt's, Springfields and kimbers as well.
There are those that will never change thier mentality about a gun having to cost $1000 to be any good. And they can keep shelling out the big bucks.
But I am a firm believer that Rock's are just as good for a whole lot less money.[:D]0 -

Ok, I found a brand new Kimber Pro Carry 2 at Sportsman's warehouse for $699.99 and bought it out the door for $756.08 that inclueds an extra mag that I bought. so about $740.00 total. that was in my price range, like I said there are exceptions to every rule and finding a Kimber in my price range is an exception. I always thought that if you lower the front sight it raises the raises the point of impact?0
