Grey goose claims that they are the best vodka in the world. I'm wondering of how that can be true of all the ultra premimums out there.
Since there is a lot of ultra premimums like 'The jewel of russia' and 'Efeen' I think it would be hard to make the claim. Do any of you think there is a smoother and better tasting vodka the the french run-away grey goose?

...Another vote for "Kettle One". As long as we were drinking free in Vegas, I ordered Stoli, Absolut, etc. A kindly (and well tipped) barkeep turned me on to Kettle One. I drink Gimlets, so if the vodka is superior (or plastic bottle crap), my taste buds let me know, pronto. A few Bloody Marys for breakfast every morning helped my choice, also. 0 -
haven't sampled anything else but stoli... (yet)... but, french vodka?? come on. can't be anywhere close to "the best vodka". 0 -
I am a Gin drinker, but isn't Vodka supposed to be tasteless?

Best tasting Vodka we've ever had was Colorado brand vodka.
We also like Ketel One.

Grey Goose is good but I have to give a +1 to the Kettle One as having the best taste for your $$$. I have only had a couple other "ulta premium" vodkas but Grey Goose is tuff to beat. 0 -
Three Olives makes the smoothest vodka around. Kettle One makes an O.K. one. I haven't found anything I like better than Three Olives, and the price isn't so bad either. 0 -
Grey Goose is far from the best vodka out there and in my opinion does not even qualify as a premium vodka (much less ultra) since it is really no better than Absolute or Finlandia...Neither of which are all that good. Get a bottle of Chopin or Belvedere, good Polish vodkas which cost the same as the Goose, but are much better. Ketel One is a fine vodka but Titos vodka is hands down the smoothest I have ever drank, it goes down like water [:p]. There are a number of specialty vodkas out there like Crater Lake (from Oregon) which are wonderful but are also often hard to find or are only available locally. Good old Skyy (blue bottle) is really one of the best values out there for over all price and quality. If you are looking for a good vodka just for mixing and at a very low price (which you won't confuse with rubbing alcohol) try Burnetts- It is not bad! 0 -

I'll second the Burnett's for a good one. It surprised me with how good it actually tasted. I haven't tried Tito's yet, and I can't seem to bring myself to spend $30 for the Belvedere. 0 -

...Simply vodka on the rocks, with a squeeze of lime juice, though you will usually get Rose's juice from a bottle, and a lime wedge. Other than straight-up, it's the best way to let a vodka either shine or taste like kerosene.0 -
Thats all i drink. I think the taste is very good on the rocks with just a hint of soda water. I guess it depends on if you like change or not. If i where born in the 40s or 50s i probably wouldnt even touch it..[:p] 0 -

Actually all the trucks back up to the same outlet pipeline and all the vodka is the same, comes through the same pipeline from Russia.
Each company just adds some special additives to their blends and puts on their private label.[;)]
In blind test after blind test nobody could tell the inexpensive vodkas from the high priced stuff.[:0][:0]0 -

..I think all gin is nasty. Whiskey, like JB, JD, Seagrams, etc, all taste the same to me....nasty. However, if you lined up a glass of Kettle One or any other good vodka next to a glass of some plastic bottle stuff like Popov, I'd put up $1000 that I could tell you which is which. I'm a beer man and rarely drink hard stuff, but vodka is easy to judge, at least from opposite ends of the spectrum.0 -

The truth of the matter is that they have done many blind studies, on national TV, and people could not tell the difference between Smirnofs and the top popular brands. In most cases the folks selected the Smirnofs as the better quality brand instead of the popular high priced vodkas that all the young folks order at the bars. Quite funny![:0] 0 -

The problem with blind taste tests is that often the thing which makes a liquor superior is the quality of the cogeners it leaves behind - this is something not noticable until the day after.0 -
Not only is it easy to tell a good vodka from a great vodka, it is very easy to tell what the vodka is distilled from simply by the way it tastes and feels in your mouth.
Winter wheat (Absoute)
Wheat and barley (Gery Goose)
Rye (Belvedere [^])
Potato (Chopin [:p])
Grapes or fruit (Ciroc)
All of these have a very distinctive taste and flavor, not as strong as bourbon or scotch, but if you have been drinking vodka for as long as I have you can easily tell a potato based vodka like Chopin or Blue Ice from the wheat and barley of Grey Goose or rye of Belvedere. Blind taste tests maight fool American testers (likely twenty-something college students) who mix their vodka [V], but bring in a panel of Poles or Russians and sit them down and just watch them spot the differences...Even if it means drinking and testing vodkas hour after hour after hour [:D]!0 -

All vodkas are not the same and the more you pay may make the choice but since I drink vodka and nothing else , I can tell you this, spend the money and buy what you think is the best and buy a bottle of Titos and pour a shot at room temp and no mixer then you decide!the more times a liquor is distilled the smoother it is!And more bang for your buck! If not sure go to a good bar and order shots from different brands as with wine eat a slice of apple between shots to clean your palet and take a cab home! 0 -

Last year in New York City, 6 bartenders from 6 different bars had 12 of their snobbiest vodka drinkers do a blind taste test of 8 different vodkas (all claimed to drink only Grey Goose).
Long story short, Grey Goose was ranked as the "nastiest tasting" vodka by nearly all of the Grey Goose vodka drinkers .... that's 72 Grey Goose vodka drinkers ranking their favorite vodka at the bottom.
The bartenders had a great time ribbing their taste panels.
Some vodka starting with a K was ranked highest by all of these "vodka experts".
I'm not a vodka drinker and far from knowing anything about vodka, but my best bud "drinks only Grey Goose" and I had a great time rubbing his nose in it.
I only drink Gordon's Dry Gin. [:0]0 -
I've tried high priced and tried the wino priced stuff. I can't tell the difference in any liquor no matter the kind. It all tastes like poop. Then agian I'm only drinking for one reason, to get drunk. Never had a hang over in my life.
P.S. Beer is a waste of time and effort with no reward. Tastes like piss (no matter then kind) and isn't strong enough to get drunk off of unless you do the beer shotgun/bong thing.0 -

I have a bottle of Tito's in the freezer as we speak .
Makes a very good martini . Price on Tito's is rather attractive also . Very smooth . Made in the good-ole USA .

Here is another little tip for the guys who don't beleive spending $30+ per 750ml is a good investment,....
Buy yourself a BRITTA water filter, pour your cheaper vodka through it and collect it in a pitcher. Do this several times, and re-taste your vodka[:D] You just took it from a $15 bottle to a $30 bottle. Do this for 2-3 months, then compare the weight of the filter to the original weight,..that is the amount of impurity removed[:0]
Oh, and by the way, the impurities are what give each vodka it's specific flavor,....the more it is distilled, the less taste there is.0 -
My fondest memory of Gray Goose is the Sapphire club in Las Vegas. BIG bottles of Gray Goose and lots of naked women. 0
