    I just had a similar one made..10ct, the whole bit, but with my name on it and some USAF emblems..a bit less than $500.00.

    I might not should tell you, because I have it saved in "My Auctions, and if the bidding doesn't go nuts, I'm planning to make one eventually.

    It turns out that there are two men with those same initials out of a class of about fifteen hundred that graduated that year. The main office was closed, but #2 son will try to identify the correct one on Monday if possible.

    $262 / oz for 10K spot price. Scrap price is $10-$20 /oz less

    #2 son found phone numbers for both men, and an e-mail address for one of them. He said he would try to contact them this evening after classes.

    Got it, LF. The guy actually lives in Birmingham, Alabama. He lost it when he went to the hospital for some surgery recently and it simply seems to have developed little feet and walked off. Tricky things those rings, they just don't stay house broken.

    #2 son called his house, got his wife, who brought him in from outside to answer the phone. He was thrilled to hear about it and told my son that he never expected to see the ring again.

    You never know for sure, but my guess is that this one is actually the owner.

    I'll e-mail you the address and phone number and let you take it from there.

    Way to go!!! Just tell him come by Jojo's Guns in Avondale and we will give him the ring. You are a hero!

    I will be ending the auction....I hope the high bidder is someone who understands I cannot sell the ring even though the rules say I am supposed to.

    I will update you guys on what all takes place. I am shure he will want to contact the real "good guy" in this transaction.

    I called the number and left a message for the owner of the ring. I gave my number for them to get in touch with me and said that they can come to the store and pick up the ring. I ended the auction and plan on sending the person who was high bidder at the time of the auction a link to this thread. I hope it all plays out without any bad feelings for the person who bid on the ring.

    LF, I just talked to him on the phone and he was very happy to hear about the ring. He lost both it and his wedding ring at the hospital when he had the surgery back in October.

    I sent him your e-mail to me about the ring so that he had a way of getting in contact with you and he expects to try to call you tomorrow. He was thrilled to have a chance to get it back.[:)]

    Nope, I just put #2 son on task and turned him loose. I can't sail under false colors here and take credit for something I didn't do. The boy deserves a bit of credit for following through on the job.[:)]

    Just to confirm he didn't pawn or give the ring to a "friend",
    you could contact the hospital and verify that he filed a missing jewelry report.

    It was stolen from him in the hospital. He is very appreciative of his "Notre Dame family" and how they have taken care of him.

    I may try to post pics if he doesn't mind.....when I get it to him.

    Nice job. Best news I've heard all day. I've been busy the last few days and haven't had much time to post. This was the first I have heard of it.

    Work is going to be little brutal the next two months and it has been weighing on my mind a little today.

    It's good to hear there are still a few good people around.

    LC, I didn't see how you came by it but since you are both in AL, maybe some with some back checking you (police) can come up with a hospital employee who likes to supplement their income. God, how I hate people who take advantage of the helpless. Tom

    PS This should make a local TV station slobber all over itself. Million dollar human interest and for FREE!!

    I thought of the same thing. Did you see the size of the ring. Maybe the ND owner will stop by and let them take a look at it up close and personal.

    I posed the theft investigation concept to the owner in one of my e-mail communications to him, and also the idea that LF might also have the "lost" wedding ring that walked off at the same time. The person might have brought in both of them.

    I haven't had any bands in a while. I only give about $20 max for a plain band (depending on what it wieghs.) We have had so many of them in the store that I just scrap them out when I do get them. It has been way before Christmas since I've gotten any men's wedding bands though. When he comes in to get his class ring I don't mind him looking at the scrap bin....or the ring counter. Whatever he says is his he is more than welcome to. I hope I do have it somehow and I have just forgotten about having it.

    The very NICEST man came to the store today.....he was so very happy to get his Notre Dame ring back. We looked through the scrap gold and I didn't have his wedding band. I told him how very sorry I was that this had happened to him and I was thankful that the good people who went out of thier way did what they did to find him.

    He was VERY excited and seemed to be a very kind person. I am glad to report this little bit of good news.

    I am also happy to report that the message I sent to the high bidder at the time the auction was ended got a good response. The winner of the auction is an equally kind person and understands that the owner of the ring was found and it was being returned to him. I hope everyone has a great weekend coming up!!!!
