dell computers rant
Purchased a dell laptop a while back for my wife, never had anything but trouble from it.Wireless never works outside the house. She has repeatedly complained to dell but with no satisfaction.Got a courtesy call from them yesterday to ask how she liked her laptop so she told them it was rubbish. They gave her a phone number and told her they would send somebody out to fix things. She phoned the number was on for 3/4 of an hour still no joy. They want her to take the hard drive out and send it to them, when she asked them to e-mail her to put it in writing that her taking the drive out would not affect the warranty they refused.Funnily enough my son purchased a Toshiba at the same time never had a bit of trouble.Needless to say I will never have any dell products in my house again.

this is my second the first one (5yrs old) still works and is used for storeage the new dual core intel processor is the only reason i bought a new one.0 -
My Dell has been a peach. One problem and someone came the next day and fixed it under warrenty. Sorry your experience was not like mine. 0 -
Wow. I have two DELLs sitting in front of me right now. They're on 24/7 and have been that way for over two years. One's an Inspiron 6000 laptop with WiFi (which works fantastic) and the other is a Dimension 3000 desktop that is slow but works well.
I purchased a DELL for my folks, helped my sister get one (I can get an employee discount). I did the same by helping my in-laws purchase three.
No one is complaining. That's 10 DELLs, no problems.
They're not the greatest computers on the market, that's for sure... but they build a very decent machine.
Oh, and with employee purchases, you get expedited service and better warranties.0 -
Sorry to hear about your problem, but I have 3 Dell desktops and 1 Inspiron E1505 laptop.
No problems with them...2 are for my kids and even they can't bust'em. Laptop works great in or out.0 -
Wireless not working sounds like a wireless card issue, not a brand-specific computer issue. 0 -
And I could be smart and say that buying MAC is the very reason you used "bye" instead of buy... But I won't.[;)]
Dell (in the main) puts out a decent product. Fact is, Dell is really little different from any other PC. Minor tweaks to the BIOS mostly. That and a somewhat different case, but that's about all.
What IS different about Dell is the image they've been able to sell. Tons of folks have bought in and I'm here to tell you that in my opinion IT JUST AIN'T SO!
Buy a MAC. Buy a HP. Buy a Lenovo or IBM. I don't care. What I do care about is service after the sale. IBM/Lenovo are the only folks that I'm aware of that respond to complaints. Their rep's speak ENGLISH and they're based in Atlanta.

In my last two months of my MBA studies, we discovered that there is a very large backlash by the American consumer, and that outsourcing service is passe and out of favor. Consumers are starting to research and buy products that are serviced by Americans. DELL is aware of this and is moving its service centers OUT of India and back to the United States. So are many other firms.0 -

I bought my first dell desktop over 4 years ago. still have it and use it. I just ordered a dell laptop last week. The person who took my order was a native English speaker!! I was amazed. I can't wait until the new one gets here.0 -
I would rather have my balls pounded flat with a wooden mallet than buy another Dell. They are junk and the company should be put out of business. 0 -

I had problems with a laptop and after many hours on the phone, they finally told me to throw it away and buy a new one. This was after going through India and speaking to someone in the USA. DELL?-Never again.

Not 3 rooms full of stuff now is it?I install/inspect fire suppression systems and there getting smaller and smaller.
This topic is somewhat disturbing as I almost ordered Dells 1501 off there website last night.0 -
I have two - a desktop for my son and a Latitude D400 lap top for me. Son's will be 3 years old this Christmas. When we put it together (on Christmas morning) it ran fine, but died the next day. Called the number and they had a new one to me in 2 days. I think that is pretty good service! I like them and will buy another if need be. 0 -
This is another ford-chevy-glock-dell-ak47 thread. 0 -
About 600 of us in my company use Dell laptops. Problems time to time, but no more than with any other laptops, Ref: outsourced to India- work with a gent originally FROM India. When he called help desk and got India, he started talking to them in Hindi- and they freaked out. "No, No, I must be speaking English!" 0 -
HATE DELL--NEVER WILL OWN ONE!!!! 0 -
i will say it again, dell is trash, they are made to be disposable, they use parts from the lowest bidder, almost no 2 models are the same, even though they have the same model number the parts will vary, i have repaired more dells than all other brands combined, they cut cost every way they can push it out the door and maybe it will last until the warranty expires
take one apart you will see0 -
Ive been buying Dells for several years, very few problems!!!!
Have four in the house at the moment!!!
Perhaps some of ya ain't as smart as the computer!!!!0 -

Well, when you call tech support and follow all of their directions while you are on the phone with them and they can't even get it to work --- It's the computer !!! They even said it is bad and to throw it away and buy a new one. I DON'T THINK SO!! Why would I buy a new one if they are no better than that?? This one was only 2 years old.
Thanks---Peabo0 -
Pa, You old devil!
I didn't know that utility company power had gotten to Bradford yet. Last time I knew you guys were still stringing extension cords up to Olean and stealing power from the locals there.
Are those Dells the pedal-powered units? Maybe you and Ma are taking turns cranking?
Anyway... Keep 'em turned off and they should last just about forever![;)]0 -

I have had 3 dells have all been good 0 -
I did tech support for Dell for about 1-1/2 years. in that time, I fielded about 12,500 support calls. I can tell you that when a customer thinks there's a problem with the hardware (as you do when you say "they're junk"), less than 1 in 20 are actually hardware problems. either the customer doesn't know how to use a frikkin' computer or it's a problem with windows.
tech support will tell you to replace a part, because they want to end the call and get on to the next one. you get the new part and you've still got the same problem. I've seen motherboards replaced for no good reason. that's a 699$ part.
the electronic parts in any laptop computer is far more robust than you think. the only things that really break on their own are the touchpad buttons and LCD hinges. you get customer damage to the keyboard and LCD screen. other than that, any name brand laptop is not going to be junk. most all problems are caused by the user and tech support, not the computer itself.
the only things that separate Dell from the rest is the price you pay (it is competitive and you get slightly better performing parts) and the styling.0 -

250 Dells were set up on my floor at work. 350 had bad motherboards. Yes 75 replacements arrived with the same original problem. The doesn't even count the flat screen monitor issues. 0 -

You obviously work in the math department.
