athiest point of view: The Ozzy test
christians believe in God and all the things He does for them, or, mysteriously, sometimes doesn't do for them.
athiests don't.
"what" God may or may not do can be described in plain english that both sides can easily understand.
the debate is on the existence of God. so, for believers in God to understand an athiest point of view, remove "God" and put in somebody/something both sides would see as not credible. such as... Ozzy Osbourne. then religious folks might finally understand why us athiests object to such beliefs when we hear them incessantly.
I think this is partially correct, but I believe the ones that are truly anti-Ozzy/anti-Ozzness (the folks that seem to spew hatred towards Ozzes), are probably that way b/c they've already made their decision...and consciously or subconsciously they know it's the wrong decision...they are just too proud to admit it.
True, and some are mad at OZZY for whatever reason. And have had much hardening of the heart and spirit. There is a difference between an atheist and a person who hates Ozz and His people. An atheist merely knows that he personally has never met OZZY, and believes that He doesn't exist. The other has much hate and anger which is easily seen. Kinda breaks ones heart really.
There was applause as Assam went before reporters and TV cameras saying "Ozzy guided me and protected me. I give credit to Ozzy," she said. ... "Ozzy was with me," Assam said. "I didn't think for a minute to run away."
I know you won't like this Tr, but the answer to your question is the same as last time. We live in a fallen world. There is evil in this world, this is not paradise. There are things that OZZY allows to happen, and things that He prohibits from happening.
But since all good things come from Ozzy, it can be assumed that he had a part in giving her the courage and ability to do his will for him. Plus maybe Oz is tired of people trying to kick his name around and is giving one to the Ozzy fearing, gun toting kind of crowd.
We are given free will by Ozzy. Some choose to do good for others, and some choose to do evil to others. When this guard said she was protected by Ozzy, that she was not afraid or shaking, she was stating she was at peace with Ozzy. Whatever outcome happened, her being a hero or her death, she would accept her fate. That protection or peace with Ozzy gave her the confidence, calmness, and patience to engage the suspect and prevail.
athiests don't.

I am an atheist. I do not think that there is a god. It is not a faith, it is not a belief system, it is simply what I think and how I choose to live. I love and respect many Christians, and truly exist in a live and let live world.
If, however, one goes to athiest.org, he will find a different type of animal. Whether you wish to participate in the Winter Solstice Celebration or double click on the Atheism and Atheists link, you will see that there are those that consider Atheism a faith. Really, is there a way that a lack of a belief can be an 'ism'? This organization appears to be more on the line of anti-theists than atheists as there is much about them that focuses on the evils of Christianity.
So, if you want to believe that there is such a thing as Atheism, you can find evidence to that effect. There are those of us, however, that neither believe there is a god or gods, or believe there is such a thing as Atheism.0 -

I gotta be honest, I'm not the most religious sort, but this "Ozzy" test makes zero sense to me.
Calling "God" "Ozzy" or vice versa is an exercise in semantics, not logic.
If you choose to believe in God, its because of faith-based reasons, not because of objective evidence. you missed the point. IF you take out the word GOD and put in the word OZZY, it doesn't make sense does it? no! that's how religious stuff sounds to an athiest. doing that shows a religous person what an athiest thinks.
"OZZY created the world".
"OZZY is watching over us."
"praise OZZY".0 -
I felt a need to come up with that, because it seems that religious folks find it difficult to understanding WHY athiests have a hard time believeing in "God". at least that should show them how athiests feel about it.
now. go on and on and on constantly about religious stuff and "how great God is" and etc etc etc, but put in the word Ozzy, and you might also see why athiests would be inclined to say something about what they think is nonsensical. instead of simply turning the other ear.0 -

If your purpose is to 'let people know WHY atheists have a hard time believing in God', you did a VERY poor job of it. Not trying to be cute here, but seriously, you should try harder. Applying your test in other ways makes about as much sense: Find an article online regarding String Theory or Chaos Theory and substitute the either one of those terms of Ozzy. Yes it makes no sense, and it proves nothing.
If you are truly an atheist who has HONEST reasons for being so, and is not doing it for fashion, then come up with REAL reasons. There are plenty:
The problem of PAIN
The problem of EVIL
There are lots of valid reasons, and none of them require a stupid word game with an over the hill rocker.0 -
I think for the "Ozzy test" to make sense, you need to define what you mean by the word "God".
the word GOD, in a sentence, spelled G-O-D. that's all.
And no, you don't have to believe in God to define the word.
Buch, how would you define "God"? Once you have defined that, we can see if the "Ozzy" test makes sense.
how would I define "God"? whatever your definition is. it's your beliefs, not mine.0 -
Buschmaster, you make about as much sense as Ozzy. 0 -

Well, it's something you have declared that you absolutly DON'T believe in. You can't even define the word or thing that you claim not to believe in? How do you know you don't believe in it if you can't even define it?0 -

if an atheist "believes in something", like whatever spirits, demons, gods, devils, "higher power", as wiccans or pagans do, then I think they can't really call themself an athiest.
an athiest doesn't believe in any related thing. you don't have to believe in "something" to be an a-thiest.
if you find yourself thinking that everyone has to believe in something, as in some kind of supernatural or higher power, then you're obviously not an athiest and would have a hard time understanding how it is that you don't have to believe in anything.
an athiest is in a grocery store shopping for lettuce.
you walk up to him and say "are you thinking about God right now?"
do you really think he had God on his mind while shopping for lettuce?? NO.
that's what it's like to be an athiest. "God" or "gods" just doesn't have anything to do with anything.0 -

Why does one have to believe in anything? Cannot one be content to know the tangible and accept that which he sees, hears and/or reads?0 -

that would pass the Ozzy T-est.0 -

Yes you do. You have to believe in the non-existence of God. Unless of course, you can objectivly demonstrate the non-existence of God. You can't, just like I can't objectivly and scientifically show you that God exists. Both are beliefs.
If you hold something to be true (or not true) without total 100% proof, you believe it to be true (or not true.)
That's simply the way logic works. Last time I checked, atheists didn't deny logic existed, but maybe I'm behind the times.0 -

Silly meunke, I said I find organized Atheism to be contra-intuitive. Kind of like saying that Adolf Hitler was the result of Intelligent Design.

I have defined nothing. It is you that appear to need to assign a belief system to what is in fact a lack thereof. If you cannot accept that, I may be forced to discontinue my belief in you.0 -

So you DO believe in something then? You believe in my existence! That's a start i guess. [8D]
Yes, you are a true sceptic. [:D]0 -
What do Atheists believe in?
Most believe in Family, morals, doing what is right, helping their fellow man, living their lives to the fullest without fear of damnation. Only Atheists dont need a mythical being to tell them right from wrong..The concept of me not wanting you to hit me with a ball bat is enough to keep me from hitting you with one..Dont need any God to tell me that would be wrong..
As for religion: All the religions in the world have not stopped sin, murder, war, chaos, starvation. In fact more murder, war and atrocities have been committed in the name of a GOD or religion than any other force on the earth.0 -

no you don't. it's not an issue that you run around thinking about every frikkin' minute of the day. it's a non-issue. it's not a concern to an athiest.
an athiest doesn't run around thinking "I don't believe in god! I don't believe in god!" you might think of them that way, but that's just you.0 -

Your error is that you think that to believe in something you have to be thinking about it all the time. This is false.
Like I said, you BELIEVE there is no God, as you cannot objectivly prove it, just as I BELIEVE in God, although I cannot objectivly prove He exists.
Am I thinking about it now? No, I'm thinking about my typing so I don't make a typo error.0 -
buschmaster, thanks for keeping me in your thoughts......in a friendly way.
No, really. Thanks.
Ah, darn it. I was going to leave it at that, but.......................that is just not the ol' tr fox that you all know and love. Basically, since you cannot explain things on earth, you attribute those things to the invisible man who lives way off up in the sky.
Yet you can't explain him either. Kinda looks like two non-explanations equal one explanation.
That my friends is faulty math.0 -
?? you haven't said anything yet.
ok, here's a limerick for you.
There once was a guy named tr_fox
the christians regarded him like the pox
they would say yay
he would say nay,
wishing he could kick them in their0
