What was your very first gun?
Was repairing broken butt-plate on an old Hopkins & Allen single barrel 12g. Got to thinking that my Dad bought that shotgun for me at an auction 42 years ago. Was my very first gun. Wondering what others first guns were?

Not counting a couple of BB guns, when I was 11 I saved my money and bought myself a brand new FIE double barrel 12 gauge shotgun, that I still have. I was scarred to shoot it till I was 13, I was a little fella back then, so I carried my father's 20 gauge Mossberg pump.
Around thirteen I bought myself a Universal carbine and around 15 I bought myself a Mossberg 12 gauge pump.
My father has his first gun, a single shot .22 and my son has his, a Henry lever action .22.
At some point in time my son will have 3 generations of "first" guns.

First I hunted with was a Winchester model 42 (.410). First that was mine was a JC Higgins model 60 (made by High Standard) (.22) 0 -

Winchester model 670 -
first one i bought was an r & g in 22 lr about the same time my dad gave me a winchester model 94 30 30 dont remember what happen to the 22 but i still have the 30 30 and always will 0 -
Remington 11-48 in 16 guage, modified, paid $90 used in 1960. Traded it for Sweet 16 in 1964, 28 ** plain rib, gave $75 to boot.
Fired it a zillion times, retired to gun case in 1981 'cause my shoulder looked like raw meat after long dove shoot. Found used Model 1100 in 12 guage modified for $165; super shooter and sweeter to my shoulder. Love the Sweet 16, wouldn't take anything for it BUT the 1100 is the best shooter. With right load will tumble a dove at 75 yards.
Pistol, S&W .38 Chief's Special, 3" blue, paid $60 in 1962 including a box of 50 lead nose. Have it too.
Second pistol Baby Brown .25 in 1963, $29 including box of ball ammo and zipper pouch. Fired it 5 times, still in safe.0 -
Dad gave me the ithaca m-49 when I was 8. Wow hard to beleive it's been 30 years ago. My first highpower is a remington model 740 woodsmaster .244 cal. I bought when I was 14. First pistol I bought is the colt frontier scout .22 when I was 16. [img][/img] 0 -
My first gun was really 3 guns. They were stevens favorite's in 22,25, and 32 cal. rim fires. I still have them today. 0 -
Stevens 66B. Dad bought it in 1940 or '41 from a young man going into the Navy and I claimed it as mine. I was 8 or 9 and boy did I torture that gun! I may have invented the the first in-line muzzleloader with it and survived to tell the tale. The gun is now almost completely restored, but it will never be 100%.

First gun was a cap gun ... then a BB gun ... then a 20 GA single shot Whippet ... then a 20 GA SXS Belgian made shotgun (still have it, and it shoots just fine!) and then a Remington Feldmaster .22 pump. My brother and I got it for Christmas and had to share it! (Yes, ours did shave lead, too. It was worse with some brands that others. You had to clean lead shaving continually or it would jamb up a lot. But it was fun to shoot.
I guess that's it for my "first gun" ... now I am more into lever guns ... and never have any problems with them!
And I'm getting into muzzle loaders ... only problem is remembering everything when you go to the range or go hunting! It is a lot of fun to tinker around with BP.[:)]0 -
A Reminton 514 single shot Gandpa gave it to me on my 9th birthday and told me he better not see any more squirrels on the ranch. It was tough to cover all three thousnd acres on foot so they got me a horse to go with it. Oh how I miss those days! 0
