Went up into the national forrest picking huckleberries with the wife today. After we were done picking a coyote ran out in front of us and started running down the road in front of my truck. The wife popped of a few rounds with her .40 S&W and missed it (the truck was bouncing around) and the yote cut up the bank for an escape. I told Belinda to hand me the gun and I popped it at about 30 yards. The damn thing was flopping all around the brush and I popped of a few more rounds...he was still flopping all over the place, so I climbed up the bank and walked up to him...and finished him off. He had several holes through him...those full metal jackets must have went right through him without a lot of soft tissue damage.

Not going to bust your nads FMJ's= Bad Poo poo on game.[:)][:D][8D]

Edit- a dead yote is a good yote.

Yeah...but as a back up on bear, the FMJ's might penetrate better.?.? She carries her .40 in case I can't hit the thing with my .460 S&W.

Why would you want to kill a coyote at this time of year?? The hide is worthless and I bet you didn`t eat it. It seems to me that you are wasteing wildlife. Shame on you.[:(!][:(!]

More like saving wildlife if you have turkeys, grouse, or deer in the area. Those yotes will put a whooping on a turkey population, especially this time of year when the poults are still to young to fly.

You saw what happened to the yote, If it were a 400 lb blackie, he would have been a little upset. Soft point or hp's!.

Really??? ...with the .40 being so anemic (when it comes to bear), I would have thought you'd want something with better penetration...

i hunt them all fall. there are very few farmers that turn me down when i ask permission to hunt them during the fall and winter. also helps when when i need to get permission to hunt deer around here. i use to shoot them just because of the problems they cause the farmers around here. but now i usually just wait until there in prime to thin them out a little. might as well get paid for having fun..

...Hope you kill every skunk you see too, I do.
...This one had seen better days, especially after he laid in the sun for a month last year after he got stung by a .270...[:D]

You'd probably run off screaming like a little school girl who saw a roach. Just another example of an ignorant person who don't know what yote's do to the local wildlife.

I'm not going to cry over a dead coyote, but I don't really get the desire to shoot it on sight, either.

Maybe that's because I don't live in a rural area and don't keep livestock.

    Dunno.

You must have a magic mountain to be picking huckleberry's this early in the season. Our temps have been record high and we're still looking at blossoms everywhere we've picked before. 3500' to 7500' sure doesn't make any difference here (and you're only a few measly hundred miles from here). Very interesting.

Quite a few "magic mountains" I guess...they are ripe all the way up to the Canadian border. I was suprised to see them up so high.
