Hell, I haven't had to raise any teenaged girls and I know what a pain they can be.

First time I met my friend's sister, she shot me in the face with a BB gun. Thank God I was wearing glasses.

Of my three she is the most "work"....I have to be on my toes for that one. Sometimes I think she actually thinks I am either "slow" or blind. I let her go to a fireworks...barbeque thing at one of her friend's homes. She got mad at me because I kept calling her cell phone. I just have to check in!!!!

Speaking from the point of view of someone who just finished his teen years, I can honestly say that checking in is a good thing, but not more than once an hour.

Edit: If I had ever been in that kind of position when I was in my teens, I would've just shut my cell phone off.

Edit #2: Let me know when she turns 19. [;)]

    LF,

Yet in a few year's time she'll look back on it fondly.

I've noticed that most kids who are ignored by their parents seem to have the most fun in their teens and regret it the most the rest of their lives.

Keep up the good work - you'll both be the happier for it.[^][8D]

    objective opinion: she's a total hottie, which is bad news for you;
I hope for your sake that she does not have a thing for the "bad boys".

BTW, I do accept contracts for "removing" bad news boyfriends [;)]

    LF,

I have two teenage daughters. One is heading to college this fall and the other will be a senior in High school. I get stressed like every other parent but something I think of as a parent is all the stuff I wanted to do and got told "no" before my parents ever knew what they were denying. I make it a point to say "yes" to all the things I think could be good for them when they ask. That is provided we go over some ground rules.

It turns out all the talking we did to them as little kids and treating them like adults way back then led to us trusting them a lot more as teenagers. Our rule is not to check in on them unless they change locations or situations(new set of friends/people on scene or different ride home). It is their life and they will have to learn to live it responsibly. Part of the responsibility is knowing a situation is turning bad and get help if you need to get out of it. I will come and get them out if need be. If my kids can trust that I can trust them going out and having a good time.

P.S. you have a beautiful daughter Locust. The dawg ain't bad lookin' either.

I'm just now letting this one do a little "getting out" with her friends. I am used to taking her to a friend's house...dropping her off and picking her up later. This whole thing where she has a group of kids show up....they leave telling me the various locations they plan on going....is nerve racking. They may as well be speaking another language.....because when they start trying to explain it all to me I go into a trance (picturing horrible car wrecks or scenes from all the teenage-virgin crappy movies) that leads me to wanting to say NO to everything. I let her go do most of the things she wants to....but boy I don't want to!

LF - If you dont let her go and do it, she will tell you something simpler and go and do it anyways.

I know how we work. Dad lets me go do stuff all the time, like tonights party, me, and a few guys from school went and shot fireworks, me, jared, zach and Chris, Tony next door, Sharen across the street, and a bunch of people I dont know. We had a BLAST! - Just let her do stuff, She will get into MORE trouble being tempted to do something you dont want her to do than if you let her.

Just let her. Why am I saying this, IM FIFTEEN!

The visions, well thats simply karma for you. Let her do stuff! [:D]
on the other hand, my phone number isss.. lol jk

ever get those pokecards list? i can list some on ebay for ya

She is a lazy but and won't drag them out for me. I am tempted to go get them.....but every time I go in her room I get mad at her so I just don't go in there any more. Its the garbage more than anything else. WHY....can't she take the garbage OUT OF HER ROOM!!!! It has to be in little piles here and there....or in bags NEXT TO her full garbage can. We won't even get into the clothes. What pile is dirty....or clean...your guess is as good as mine!

LF, thanks for telling us about your family. It is entertaining to read how everyone states what you should do. I notice you usually don't ask for opinions, you just say what is going on and driving you crazy. It is entertaining.

    My opinion?

Treat each child like an individual. Do what you think is best for the child. Should there be a blanket policy for all the children? Sometimes there isn't a "right answer" to handle a trying child, but what the heck do I know. All your stories do is play on my worst fear

    "Girls are evil."

I don't have much of a clue how to raise a daughter, as opposed to a son. Sounds stupid? Perhaps, but I look at the way my parents raised me and my sisters and I think, what a screwed up mess we are, (only my sisters still live in the fantasy and haven't realized it yet).

when I was about that age, as long as the folks saw me again in the house sometime the next day to know I was still around, they didn't care what happened.

when my sister moved out, it was like letting the cat out the door- one day she just didn't come back. that was it. (she was about 18)

    I had one too.
My Daughter has a hard time picking things up also (a pig). Make it a reward thing. If that room is not clean by tomorrow, no stayovers. Then maybe go help her a little while she is doing it, to show her the right way. She'll get the picture.

We have never cared about what sort of mess the Kids lived in. They wanna be pigs, it's their deal. We would help them clean up until they were 10 or 11, just so they would know how.

2/3 of them(4), started straightening their rooms at around 16, on their own. The other two joined the Service, and were allowed to leave AFTER a final room cleaning.

They all helped with the rest of the cleaning.

I've always wanted a boy and a girl but my wife and I are blessed with 2 boys (18 and 15) and we love them just the same.

Parenting is never easy and never ending. Good luck!
