4x4- which to buy, 04 Toyota or 06 Nissan?
Looking to replace my 04 Nissan Frontier 4x2 with something in 4x4.
Of the following 3 which would you buy?
04 Toyota Tacoma 4 door 4x4
06 Nissan Frontier 4 door 4x4
06 Nissan Xterra 4x4
All are priced around $18,900.

I agree with the Toyota recomendations. Even the larger Toyota truck, the name excapes me, but its darn nice looking. They are the most reliable trucks out there.
The new large Nisson trucks do not have a good repair record according to consumer reports.0 -

Toyota by far. Currently own a 2003 Tacoma. Wife and I are both diehard Toyota people. I've owned 5 Toyotas (cars and trucks) and the wife has owned 3 Toyotas (currently owns a Lexus---Toyota). As previously mentioned, I would check out a good used Tundra. You're gonna find there's not a lot of price difference between a good used Tacoma and Tundra. I'm shopping for a Tundra myself. Need more towing capacity, stability (towing) and comfort (room) than the Tacoma offers. Toyota maintains a very high resale value.
Also, be very aware of used vehicles. Lots of vehicles (cars & trucks) that sustained flood damage (Katrina) moved north and being sold on used car lots. Always request a Carfax on a used vehicle.0 -

Nothing American blows my skirt up. I looked at the Colorado's and think they just look cheap inside. Also looked at the F150's but I hear they are known for gawd aweful gas mileage. Would never buy a Dodge and have had really poor luck with Chevy cars.0 -

Depends on what you consider a truck. Lots of variable. How much you are towing safely. Safely is the key word. I sold a 28' pull camper to an owner of a Toyota full size 4x4. Camper ate up the suspension of the Toyota. I told him not to get on the interstate ... Called me when he got home and said he needed a heavier truck. CGVW ( combined gross vehicle weight ) with truck and camper was well exceeded. All the truck wars on who is the best deal with 1/2 ton trucks. Look at the miles per gallon for a Toyota 4x4 and it is 15/18. My SuperDuty Ford 3/4 ton is 13/17. So it cost about 300 more a year to drive it. Big deal, it is a Heavy Duty truck that the suspension is not going to buckle under a load,or feel a semi blow you off the road pulling .. 0 -

The new Tundras are built much heavier then last year model, but time will tell how they hold up pulling things.
If those were my choices, I would go with the tacoma.0 -
Toyota is still a 1/2 ton truck. Ever looked at the frame. Real skinny on em'. Actually 1/2 ton trucks are just a tad heavier frames than the old passenger cars. Tires are another factor, 1/2 ton trucks are not meant to carry much. Most use passenger car tires or SUV load range tires. Real trucks 3/4 ton up use D ( 8 ply) or E (10 ply ) load range tires. They will withstand the stress of weight and severe towing. My Ford was made in the U.S.A. 0 -

And the profits go to the hardworking american people in washington state who work in the Toyota plant. Clothing them, feeding them and their families, etc. Instead of going to those people in Canada and Mexico who are working in the GM and Ford plants there. Your choice.0 -
Buy the Nissan.
When the Tundra came out 8 years ago, Toyota improperly designed the brakes. At around 15,000 miles the discs would warp, because the discs were too small. Toyota Corp. told the dealers to lie to customers, and to tell them that it was their fault for getting the brakes hot and driving through a mud puddle. Disgraceful.
Look at the used Toyota trucks in the paper. On most of the trucks with 125 to 145 K miles on them, it will say, "Engine rebuilt at 120,000 miles." Great, what does that tell you? Toyota motors blow at 119,000 miles.
I have two Nissan trucks. Cost a couple thousand less than Toyata, and better built.0 -

I'm working on my third Toyota 4X4 truck. A 1995. Just recently recieved a recall notice for all these models back to I believe 1992.
Free replacement of a steering conecting rod. Wonder how many companies
do this kind of free replacement on something this old?0 -
Cant go wrong with the Toyota. As for buying inferior American made trucks, I do know that the quality is starting to get better, and if the big 3 would build one comparable to an import I would buy it. Truth be known I resent the fact that I cant get the same quality in a domestic vehicle that I can in an import. I should'nt have to buy foriegn to get what I want. In my area our whole economy is based on G.M. So I am P**sed that the big 3 refuse to compete with the Japs. Its not that they cant build as high quality car as the imports, they refuse to. 0 -
