    I don't think it strange.

I don't think it's anybody's business but your own, either. I think it shows some gall to tell you how to react in that situation.

    Strange as compared to what?

A reptile pays note to neither mate or offspring.

Some birds, like chickens, the rooster despises the biddies but is attentive to the hen.

The great apes pay attention to both the mate and offspring.

With some other fowl, the male has an active part in rearing the young.

Male rats will sometimes eat their young while the mother is still giving birth.

Hard to say if you are strange as I don't know you.

I've had five. The first one a c-section. My wife and I had preplanned that I should always stick with the kid, but thats just us. I see nothing wrong with your actions.

Woman are freaking nuts. I have given up trying to "act" like how my wife expects to me.
Would she be hanging it over your head if you made the other decision?

Yeah, I'm a little mad at Mrs. Plaid right now for playing me like her emotional yo-yo.

Not strange at all. You can't help but be worried about your wife. Between all of the events going on at the time, you were probably in a mental overload and didn't know what to do.

This is a recent story? Congrats.

Oh yea, I read "Six years later" and it registered "Six days later."

    My fault.

I wouldn't have been in the delivery room in the first place. There are some things that a man just should not see.
If you are letting the hens give you grief over such a trivial thing, you are p**** whipped.

what? you were more concerned about how your wife was doing under the circumstances. I can't say I blame you 1 bit. as for your wife giving you static about it, fine, it's better she sees it that way than being traumatized by having to go through that.

Did you happen to tell your wife just exactly what you wrote here? Did you explain to her that you had checked over your child but was more concerned for her?./..

Sounds reasonable to me, I hope your wife and baby are doing well.

As indeed he says in Hosea, "Those who were not my people I will call `my people,' and her who was not beloved I will call `beloved.'"

Harsh facts; You did the right thing.

You are bonded to your wife. You can make another baby if the one just born does not make it. The baby was in a natural state; just being a new born cared for by professionals. Your wife was in a un-natural state; she needed you more.

When my wife had her C-sections they could have cut her in half and she wouldn't have felt it...she was drugged well.

Watching them yank out that uterus thru the hole and pull her body around that table was pretty interesting.

Then when the doc was washing off the kid the kid pee'd on the doc.....then I knew it was mine.[:p]

What could you have done for your kid?

    Your wife you could comfort.

    I think you did fine.

The child, who doesn't know you, is in the hands of professionals and there isn't anything you can do but look at him/her anyway.

Unless my wife wanted me to be with the child, I'd be at her side ... there will be plenty of time for bonding later.

You did what you felt was right - It was right for you!!!! Tell the biddies to take a hike!!!!
My wife had an epidural(sp) on our first, and I could not stand to see them put her in soo much pain putting that needle in her spine - I had to walk out of the room or I was going to smack somebody. She gave me grief every now and then about leaving her untill a few weeks ago. She was the interpretor for a deaf girl having her first baby. After 30+ hours of labor they decide to do a C section and had to do the saddle block. The husband walked out because he could not stand it!! She asked him later - and he told her the same thing - He was going to smack somebody if he did not get out of the room... I know it's not quite related to staying by her side - But you gotta do what you gotta do!!!!

If you want her to stop talking about it all you have to say is, "Baby Doll, you reall looked like sh%t at the time and I was worried that you weren't going to make it"! That should shut her up.

I think it is strange your wife and who ever else still have a problem with how you handled things in the operating room. Everybody reacts to things differently.

As long as your wife was happy you should not care what anybody else thinks.

Men dont bond immediately with infants. It takes awhile. Perfectly normal reaction.

    We had twins.
When my wife was in the delivery room, my son was born natural, the doc waited 1 h 13 min. before taking my son via c-section, I don't remember being given any choice where I went, but after my son was born, the docs said they were giving the wife something to make her sleep, and she would be out for a few hours. I decided I might as well go to the nursery, as the babies were already there.[:D]

My wife gave birth to my daughter by C-section. Her and others always give me a hard time to this day (6 years later) because I didn't rush off with the baby right after she gave birth.

When my daughter was walked by I took a quick inventory of toes and fingers and such and when all came up accounted for I didn't worry about her anymore and just stayed holding my wifes hand. The nurses ended up raises their voices and dragged me over to see my daughter. I nodded and walked back to my wife.

The way I looked at it is my wife is on the table with her belly open and she has to be scared. My daughter was a little person I didn't know at that point in my mind. My wife, I had strong ties to and loved very much.

In your opinion was my reaction strange?

Show this post to your wife. If I were her it would mean a great deal to me.

One can not be choosy when they have to work off a stomach full of fresh baby.

    There are male nurses?

Well, then, they deserve to be raped.

My brother is a male nurse. He refuses to work with babies though.
