Your opinion?
My wife gave birth to my daughter by C-section. Her and others always give me a hard time to this day (6 years later) because I didn't rush off with the baby right after she gave birth.
When my daughter was walked by I took a quick inventory of toes and fingers and such and when all came up accounted for I didn't worry about her anymore and just stayed holding my wifes hand. The nurses ended up raises their voices and dragged me over to see my daughter. I nodded and walked back to my wife.
The way I looked at it is my wife is on the table with her belly open and she has to be scared. My daughter was a little person I didn't know at that point in my mind. My wife, I had strong ties to and loved very much.
In your opinion was my reaction strange?

My wife had an epidural(sp) on our first, and I could not stand to see them put her in soo much pain putting that needle in her spine - I had to walk out of the room or I was going to smack somebody. She gave me grief every now and then about leaving her untill a few weeks ago. She was the interpretor for a deaf girl having her first baby. After 30+ hours of labor they decide to do a C section and had to do the saddle block. The husband walked out because he could not stand it!! She asked him later - and he told her the same thing - He was going to smack somebody if he did not get out of the room... I know it's not quite related to staying by her side - But you gotta do what you gotta do!!!!
I'd probably do the same thing.0 -
For the ones after the first, I dropped her off and went to the bar. 0 -
My wife had c-section and had a tumor dermoid cist on her ovary removed at the same time she was opened up. It all went so fast I didn't know what to do. I held my wife's head all but about 1 minute to walk over and make sure my daughter was ok. Then went back to my wife. The nurses then handed my daughter to me and I brought her over to see mommy. 0 -
Never allow anyone the right to be thier emotional yo-yo.You did what you thought was right at the time.It doesn't matter what I or anyone else might have done. 0 -
I think most people miss took my use of "give me a hard time". I didn't mean they really complain they laugh and joke at me since I was so worried. They found my reaction funny and different from most guys that run to their kids straight off with no worry for their wife. Mainly I was just seeing if my logic was different from most other guys. Allen, yes I'm whipped, or am I just happy and in love with my mate? I don't feel the need to posture and talk "tough" sorry. I love my wife. 0 -
Kodiakk,
Next time you think your wife is in the mood to go out and eat a nice meal, grab your 6yr old daughter, go out to a nice meal @ Red Lobster or somewhere and leave your wife at home. See what she thinks of that crap.0 -

I did the same thing. wife needed me more than the kid did at the time. I get ribbed for a different reason though. Wife asked how I could stand to watch the doc open her up. I said no problem, I'm a hunter. I've seen the insides of lots of animals, its all about the same.[B)] I'll never live that one down. 0 -
Here's a different way to look at your wife's concerns. Try to think less like a hunter-gatherer and more like a mother as you read it.
Possibly insensitivity? She carried your child around inside her for nine months and then went through an ordeal to give birth. Perhaps she felt that you were "turned off" to the baby's birth by your seemingly ambivalent reaction to your new daughter and your preoccupation with her. Where was the joy for her at that moment?
Yes, my children were all born by C-section so I know what you went through.
After all, despite your wife's physical condition and appearance, she had more than a few folks tending to her and watching out for her welfare. But, your baby girl was pretty much alone and in the company of strangers. Perhaps your wife was expecting you to be excited beyond words with your new baby daughter and to be more protective of her.
Mothers think a bit differently than women who are not yet mothers and a total world apart from us men.
Obviously, you didn't do a bad thing but you may really want to sit down with her and ask her to tell you why she feels that way 6 years later. May help clear the air so that it does not keep coming up.
