Hyphen Americans.....Rant
Any miserable son of a woman and a man that identifies themselves as a (Fill in the blank) AMERICAN ain't no American at all; they are a hyphen.

I am an engineer, not an English major so please correct me but isn't a hyphen used to join two syllables or words? As such the use of a hyphen would connect rather than seperate. 0 -

Saying "American" is almost like saying "car." Sure, it gets the point across, but with as pluralistic as America is - and you do have to admit that there are a lot of people here from a lot of different countries - sometimes it's a matter of clarification.
I know some people who are fiercely proud of being Irish and since it is not obvious from outward appearance that they are in fact Irish, the self-applied label helps.
Japanese-American is likewise helpful since differentiating between Japanese and Chinese and Thai and Vietnamese is a difficult task for most folks as well.
African-American is a matter of personal taste. I know some who prefer being called black and some who are offended by it. All a matter of taste.
And so if someone identifies themselves as a (fill in the blank) American, don't immediately take offense. See which part of the hyphenated statement they emphasize and react accordingly.0 -

The ones who surrendered, died in slave camps in the Carribean and elsewhere. And though some of the Arkadians had made their way to the "new-world" by way of France, they were not French. The French King and the English King were competing to subjagate them by way of hunting and trapping license's etc, but they did not suceed. We still posses The Royal Island. By the way at a time when most people were just discovering fire-arms, most Arkadian Households had two or three of them. In the end, some secrets will be revealed, but others.... Never.0
