We have gone to all kinds of trouble throughout the past couple years with the computer and this girl of mine. She started out just having an open myspace thing and of course I checked it and it pretty much had "Hi my name is ding-head and I live______ come get me pervs." So we went all through the what you can and can't do on there. After a short time passed I was checking up again and found she had "freinded" a nut job boy that was VERY young, very GAY, and liked to post stories about other gay boys he was having affairs with....along with little tales about people he MET in person from the computer (not cool.) So we went through the whole DON'T FRIEND PEOPLE YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW thing. Then......another bit of time passed and I decide to check on things to find she has a secret profile that I had no idea she had. This second one has background pics of victoria secret models and music playing that made me so mad I went and got her out of bed (almost by her hair) to show her what I found. We took it away from her completely at that time.

About 6 months passed and that is when someone at work told me about seing her myspace page......hmmmmmm,really. We went round and round. She was punished for having it and she showed me where everything was old info and really old posts where she had done it in the past. Teenagers are sneeky little emotional psychopaths. You cannot IMAGINE the crap you are going to go through if you have younger kids. The only good thing about Myspace right now is that I get to dive into the stupid little world of theirs. You can go into the profiles and look at pictures of everyone and read little messages from each other. They are rediculous.

Since my daughter's best friend moved away and we all miss the little girl (a lot) I let her on Myspace to keep in touch with her. So here I go with the monitoring again. My daughter has a new boyfriend she wants me to meet.....(wonderful!) My plans are to ask him what is that SMOKE is he has blowing out of his nose in the picture posted on Myspace......HUH? They aren't very smart critters these TEENAGERS!

Jacob....you know you are a lot smarter than some of the adults I know....so you don't get piled in with this bunch to me.

    1) i dont smoke
    2) i dont drink
    3) i have a myspace, but i only talk to people i know on it
    4) im single... [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]
    5) DONT LET HER DO THAT. its not even cool.. i get friends requests daily about people "knowing me from school"

    whateverrrrrrrrrrr

What you could do is put a password on the computer that she would have to know even to use Windows. I have that on my computer, just because I have stuff on my hard drives that other people don't need to know about. I'm the only one that can access my computer because I'm the only one that knows the password. You can't set up another user account without the computer administrator's authorization.

Go into the Control Panel under the Start Menu, and click on User Accounts. Set the default account so it's the Administrator's account, then put in a password...something that she won't guess.

If you have a cable/DSL router, you can set the firewall to allow or disallow any/all sites. The easiest way is to block everything accept sites that you approve - so you will have an "allow" list, everything else will be blocked.

Of course, this doesn't help if she edits her site from another house.

Check out the documentation that came with the router.

I have learned that giving her absolutely NO access to the computer only leads to her getting pretty sneaky about it. Like going to a friend's house or even the school computers. I have our main computer locked up in our office (with all of MY work related items.) Soooo....not just anyone can get to it. It has a password set that only I know so to even get logged on at all you have to get me to do so. I have a wireless router and laptop that aren't in use right now (my brother is getting me another wireless router.) I have just been run ragged about this whole Myspace thing. People think its just the coolest thing EVER and just about everyone is doing it. But I think it is a black hole for time that could be used for better things. (At least on the Gun Broker discussion boards I get to plug my gun sales.) I do get to kind of peek into the little world of hers if I let her on there a little. Its like the car.....I am worried about the car but I just know she will do something soon enough so I take it away from her. I hate dealing with the whole Myspace thing...but I know one day I will check it and I will be banning it AGAIN from her use. It has been twice that it was taken away from her already.....I have told her that the third time is the charm...if I have to deal with it again it will be gone forever this time.

If you want to get really sneaky and very geeky, it is possible to control her access on computer(s) you control. And if she gets geeky/sneaky enough, its all relatively easy to get by. School, etc. is a whole different issue, although any blocks they put up there are most likely *very* easy to get around and common knowledge in the right group of students.

My 2 are just 7 and almost 4. They don't even use computers yet, although I make my living with 'em and there are about 30 in the house/garage. When they actually *need* to use a computer, they'll get full access, with the caveat that the 'puter stays in the living room and the screen is where I can see it.

Another thing I forgot to mention.....if you have kids and want to check it out. Don't just pop in on your child's page. That only gets you what they want you to see. You have to look at the pics of their friends. Then check out what all is posted on these people's boards. The pics of the friend of a friend of a friend is where you will see the "dirt" eventually. This is where I have found the multiple profiles, read the complete filth and seen the shocking pics....even read stories of tales from people I thought I knew better. I have tapered off a lot of "friends" from what I have seen on that site. If any of you parents aren't checking in by digging a little you should.....and I guarantee that you WILL be suprised.

You can kick a retarded lady to the curb but you cannot control your own daughter? Something amiss here. Don

You forgot bloody rag covered, rude as heck, retarded person in a GUN STORE that was asked to leave politely for nearly an HOUR before the local police had to spend twenty minutes themselves fussing with her.....and I had a WAY harder time with that nut that I ever have with my daughter (who I have "eventfull" moments....but no real trouble from.) Don't get me started.

We have been out "practicing driving" my nerves are on end. I have a few pics I may post in a bit. Right now I'm just collecting myself a bit before I start listing the last of these guns I have here.

Come drive this one around...after about three or four idiotic stories, the constant hair checking and sudden changes in mood....I swear you will teach her to drive if only to be able to walk home alone!

Its an old saying....he's just being silly. I wish Jacob lived close enough to hang out with her. I am getting pickier by the minute about who I let her do anything with. Kids are worth the trouble and extra effort it takes to get to know their buddies....and Jacob would be a nice friend to have for any girl my daughter's age.
