No offense, but how many times does it take for you?
She knows she has you tied around her finger, because she can keep the grandkids away from you if she wants.
    Sorry situation![:(]

Sounds fishy. Maybe she wasn't shopping. Might have been visiting a "special friend".

She's a good person, and a good mother in most ways. Her problem is she's an only child raised by old hippies who didn't believe in rules or discipline. Then, worst of all, she's lazy and self centered. She'll do what ever it takes to get her way and do what she wants.

Heffley, I know you've had a world of troubles in the year I've been on this site . And I feel for you and Sandy, that you don't need more headaches.
You can flame me for what I'm about say, but when is your boys other nut going to drop and he put his foot down on her antics?

He wants to avoid confrontation, and she's learned all she has to do to back him off is get mad and pout. She's a bigger baby than her children, and I'm concerned on what he's teaching his kids when it comes to marriage.

She needs to grow up, and he needs to grow a set!

Not sure I would agree with you about what a good "mom" she is,........after dropping off 4 kids at a theme park, and leaving them alone, after the person that paid for the trip told her not to.
If she is that way, after having 4 kids, I would not be holding my breath, expecting her to change.
The sad part for you, is like I said,........she knows she can pull your chain.
You spout off, and then she knows in a couple of days, or weeks, you will be the "patsy" again, because you want to see your grandchildren.
Once again,.......no offense meant to you![;)]

Did you miss the "in most ways" statement after that comment?

She had four children, and Sherry is adopted. The baby is too young to do these outings.

Likely too late to put his foot down. After 4 kids & ??? yrs, she is not likely to change. I expect that she was shopping [;)][;)]. Been there, done that, heard that & similar stories. But as a grandparent, the best you can do is try to help the kids. Try to see that they do not grow up with her "teachings." Have a step-daughter-in-law that may be her twin.

She's self centered, undisciplined, lazy, and left her four kids at an amusement park for hours without any supervision. Short of beating them, I'm not sure that there's a whole lot she could do to be a worse mother.

Nope didn't miss that part,........but in this day and age, I certainly would not drop off 4 kids at a theme park by themselves, with all of the freaks that are out there.
I, and I only, consider that a gross lack of concern, for a mother,......your request that she be there, was secondary!

I have never met her, but from your stories, I don't like her very much. I can introduce you to an excellent family law attorney.

Throw this new rule out on her.. Only two grandchildren at a time from now on. Grandpa's rules.. take it or leave it. IF I hear a loud noise in the west tonight I know it was the screen door slamming on the way out..

Nope not just you, I agree with you, that's why I put the stipulation that she be there in the agreement. This is one of the areas where she is not a good mother.

my divorced daughter does similiar stuff, hasn't progressed to dropping the GK's and leaving them at places like that, Yet!.
She's on a pout with me today as I informed her that her impromptu babaysitter, ME ( and I don't mind most the time as I can usually fit them in what I'm doing) was headed to Kuwait on 6 Sept, she said what'll I do for someone to watch them after school, I said reckon you'll have to hire someone, oh she is pi$$ed, said she might even have to take second job to do it, I said OK sounds resonable and responsible, that stirred her up even more.
Oh yes and then I get
"Well you just don't understand", ever get that?

She hates me and thinks I'm controling because I put conditions she doesn't like on some of the things I do. It's all about her.

I thought when I heard those littl kids in the choir going

How old are these kids Danny. If they are under the age of 13 and Six Flaggs had called the police or other authorities about this situation, you daughter in law would have found herself in court for child neglect.

Good thing for her you were there to cover her butt.

Blow her mind and tell her she is on " Probation " with you until further notice. Say No more. Keep her curious when things will get better. It will drive her nuts. If she ask a favor bring up the " Probation".. not over yet..

And while I am on a small rant, you should tell her that Pedophiles hang out at places like Six Flaggs just hoping to run across some young unattended children.

A friend's daughter was molested at the Six Flaggs near Chicago about 10 years ago and she was there with a church youth group and several parents.

The guy was never caught, the girl was a mess and it took a few years in therapy to get her back on the right track....

Tell her you reported this to the police and they will be watching her, it's better to do it now before something happens to the kids.Tell your son to get his nuts out of her purse and be a man.

Dheffley,........just so you don't feel alone!
My mom has a friend that I have known since I was around 15, she is 68 now, and has 2 sons.
Both are married, but the "good" son, has not had any children yet, and may not.
The older son, married an Iranian "Princess",.......they proceeded to have 2 children. That woman has done everything to alienate the son from his mother. They live in Atlanta, and the mother lives in Boca Raton, Florida.
She is "allowed" to visit up there once a year, where she gets to sleep in the basement, with crickets.
The son has been to Florida 2 times this year, and has not even stopped to see his mother.
She is only allowed to call him on his cell phone, so the wife doesn't get mad.
She just went through heart surgery, followed by deep melanoma removal,...........did the older son show up,.....NO!
The older sons wife, also hates his brother. Why, I have no idea.
Your son is not the only one with no "stones"!

i think this could be on the side of child endangerment

Maybe I missed something ! Or, maybe I am just old fashioned ! Or maybe both ! But, who has custody of these kids? How old are the parents? If the parents have custody, you may be able to save yourself alot of grief by letting them raise thier children.

I don't have all the details, so if I sound cold and somewhat obtuse, please don't be offended. Its just that sometimes it is better to cut the apron strings I think.
