Daughter-in-law troubles, again! Update
Update...
She's on her way here and will meet me at the hospital so Sherry can have her ankle checked. Has the baby with her and said they were at the mall next to Six Flags. I don't give a rats behind, she wasn't there!
I called the folks at Six Flags to see if I could get some refund on their tickets since they didn't get to stay long, and they are sending me 4 anytime tickets in the mail. I will take them back as soon as Sherry can walk again.
Be back in an hour or so, hope Sherry's ankle isn't broken. She still can't put weight on it even after all of the time with the ice pack. Sat a little pray that she's okay.
My Daughter-in-law isn't honest with me
The kids are about to start school again. They wanted one more trip to Six Flags before the summer ended, so I told my daughter-in-law if she could take them I would buy the tickets and give them some pocket money.
She first told me she would drop them off and pick them back up when they were ready to come home.
No go! I told her I wasn't going to have the four of them running all over Six Flags without an adult to supervise them. She balked, then said, "Okay, I'll stay with them," I could tell she didn't like it, but she knew it wasn't going to happen otherwise.
I bought 5 tickets, one for each grandkid, and one for her. I gave each of the kid's $50 cash to spend as they wish. They left this morning and headed to Six Flags for a day of fun in the sun.
At 12:30, I get a call from Sherry on her firefly phone (kid's cell phone). She has hurt herself and is crying. She is with her youngest brother, but doesn't know where the other two are. She is in pain.
I asked her where her mother is, and she says, "I don't know, she dropped us off this morning and left. She won't be back until 8 tonight. I called her cell phone but she didn't answer."
I told her to go up to one of the Six Flags workers, tell them she's hurt and her grandfather is one his way, but won't be there for 30 to 45 minutes. I told her to tell them to take her somewhere safe and cool, and I would check in at the front gate when I arrived.
I got there and they took me to a nurse's station inside the park. She and her youngest brother were there, but the other two were MIA.
I used her cell phone and called the oldest, and he was with the middle boy, and they had been looking for the other two. I told him where we were and told him to come on because I need to take Sherry home. They were there in a few minutes, and we left.
I tried twice more to call my daughter-in-law, still no answer. The oldest thought she was going shopping, so she's probably inside a mall and can't get reception, but who knows. I left a message that basically said she could pick the kids up at my house.
I'm so mad I could spit! The two older kids feel cheated out of a day at Six Flags, and if Sherry doesn't start walking on her ankle, I'm going to take her to the hospital this evening for x-rays.
I'm betting a dollar to a donut that she sends my son to pick the kids up this evening. I'll bet she won't face me face to face knowing I've caught her in a lie, again. It's time for this spoiled little child to grow up, be an adult, and live up to her promises.
Guess she'll get mad and not let the grandkids come over this weekend. She likes to punish everyone else for her failings.

The staff at Six Flags are trained and motivated to find unattended children/lost children, etc. I got acquainted with them when Travis was little. He got lost and found at Six Flags a lot. I was very impressed with their security, the people and the procedures.
All employees are trained to look for a child without an adult, who looks to be under 11. The employee is to approach and try to determine if the child has misplaced his adult. If the kid is lost, the employee takes him to Lost Parents, where a report of the incident is made. The employee is rewarded with chits that can be used for purchases in the park.
I don't like leaving kids unsupervised, but if you are going to do it, Six Flags is one of the better places for it.
In each case when Travis got away from me, he was shortly spotted and captured by a Six Flags employee, and taken to lost parents. In each case, when I couldn't find Travis in the area where I was, I went to Lost Parents, and there he was.
I spent most of a whole day with him sitting on my shoulders. If I set him down, he disappared. Trav was a live wire when he was about 4 years old.0 -

She does, she's a shopaholic. Most days of the week, if you have her paged at the mall, she'll be there, bags and credit cards in hand.0 -

Maybe I missed something ! Or, maybe I am just old fashioned ! Or maybe both ! But, who has custody of these kids? How old are the parents? If the parents have custody, you may be able to save yourself alot of grief by letting them raise thier children.
I don't have all the details, so if I sound cold and somewhat obtuse, please don't be offended. Its just that sometimes it is better to cut the apron strings I think.
So, just let them be in danger with a mother who can't do the proper job protecting or watching them? Not a chance in heck, but thank you for your suggestion.0 -

I admire you for that,........sad part is that between your son, and his wife, you end up being the responsible one. I guess I just don't understand how people that are 38, can be that irresponsible, over, and over!
Seems like I see more and more grandparents raising their own childrens kids nowadays,.......what a shame, and certainly not the way that most planned on spending their "golden" years.
I hope your granddaughter is OK though, for sure![;)]0 -
" No offense, but how many times does it take for you?
She knows she has you tied around her finger, because she can keep the grandkids away from you if she wants.
Sorry situation!"

When are you gonna say "ENOUGH!!" and put a stop to this??
I really feel bad for what she is doing, but it is apparent that your Son is going to let the growth of his Kids be up to random luck. Someone - like you - has to man up and fix it.

Prayers sent. I do wish the best for Sherry.
As for Child Protective Services, while the scare part would be a great lesson, it is unfortunate that in many situations they are all too quick to take the kids from the home when a simple visit would do wonders. Then, other times when the children's lives are in real danger they do nothing. This is not just an uninformed statement that I make. I have a near and dear friend in this field of work and I am very sure of what I tell you. It is entirely dependent on whom you end up with for a case worker.
When a bad apple happens upon the case, it is truly the children who suffer for it. In the event that they were taken into custody the chances of them being kept together are not good. I would not want to see this be the case here. I think that the best course of action at this point is left to Heff and Sandy and deal out. That might well include the threat of turning her in but if possible I certainly would not make that step at this point. God be with you both as you travels down this road that you are able to make the wise decisions for all involved. Dave0 -

Sounds fishy. Maybe she wasn't shopping. Might have been visiting a "special friend".
Nah Ya Think!!!0 -
Hope shes OK.
One of my buddies worked at Six Flags- Your supposed to get the child, introduce yourself, take them to lost place, and wait there with them, or, thats what I was told, I was going to apply.0 -
Do you think she took the $50x4kids and went shopping? 0 -

Eureka Fire Department has a branch at Six Flags for the injuries. Six Flags goes out of there way to provide Swift Water Rescue training for fire departments. It kind of makes me wonder just how dangerous of a place Six Flags really is. I bet we would be surprised to find out how many recordables they have in a year.
BTW, in spring before Six Flags opens they have a Swift Water Rescue class there. Guys go down thunder River in a life jacket and wet suit while other's practice throwing throw bags a them. To create the rapids, there a cut pieces of telephone poles in the water with just a couple of inches of water over them. I couldn't take that part of the class since I couldn't swim. A friend of mine took it. His butt hit every one of those telephone poles. For the next week, every time he sat down, he sat very thing.0 -

I think some states require notification of the authorities in cases like this. Even if your state does not, if your duaghter in law thought they would be notified, then she may be more careful with the grandchildren. 0 -
Might be mean but I would call DCS on her when she does this crap. She's not a good Mom. It's not a part time job! You can't be a good responsible mom 3 days a week and then be completely irresponsible the other 4 and get partial credit. It's kind of an all or nothing thing. I hate government interference but if you have no other option than seems like you need to call DCS (Department of Children and Families or whatever you call it out your way). If your son doesn't do something about her antics then he also is not being a responsible parent. Just calling them like I see them. 0 -
PennyPincher said "Might be mean but I would call DCS......"
It may be a requirement for a hospital, school and/or business to do so. Before a family member does they should consider it long and careful. The problems created can be HUGE.0 -
Forgot to ask....how old are the kids? 0 -
Folks,
I don't want my grandkids in "the system." I think we can handle this as adults and a family matter. My son is very angry, as he was deceived too. She knows she messed up, bigtime. We'll see where it goes from here.0 -

2 are 12, 1 is 14 and the oldest is 16. The baby is 2.0 -
Danny,
Sorry to hear about all this BS you've had to endure, but thank God it wasn't worse.
It's obvious your daughter-in-law is not worth her weight in horse s#!t, but rather than cause a scene that will benefit no one, I suggest you just do what you've done so far: be there for hte grandkids. Let 'em know grandpa is Old Reliable and set an example for them that they can appreciate and emulate.
They likely already know mom is a worthless c**t, but don't add to that stress by being an ogre in front of them, even if it's for an admittedly damned fine reason.0 -
I really do hate to hear what you are going through. I know its hard to have your grandkids in the spot you guys are in. You sound like a great grandfather....ready to take charge and get done what needs to get done. I hope they realize how much you go through for them. Keep up the good work!!! 0
