Rental companys expect the cars and trucks to get beat, they have the insurance to cover it,just like huge departement stores write off shop lifting and employee theft, they have it covered, if you get caught or go overboard, well thats another thing.

When I was a lad and misbehaved, one punishment was writing the following on the blackboard (yes, they were still black) 100 times:

'Philosophers and knowledgeable people agree that a man's character is determined by his actions when no one is looking, or when he thinks no one is looking.'

(After writing something 500+ times, one tends to remember it even after 35 years.)

Treating rental cars poorly says a great deal about one's character.
Bragging about it says even more.

The above was a C&P from Don McManus above..Don, that's sharp and to the point. A thief is a thief, and we seem to have some here. The very worst of it is..they are proud of being thieves.

I certainly hope I never meet any of them.

Don, are you by any chance kin to Patrick McManus who once wrote all those amusing outdoor tales? He's my hero..

Uh, where'd you come up with this?

Rental car companies are self-insured. They don't have insurance, that means that they absorb the costs internally. They've set aside money to pay for claims and they attempt to collect money if they can identify a responsible party.

Rental car companies sell their vehicles after, on average, two years of use or less. They sell them on the basis that they've been well-cared for and have gone through all of their maintenance (and more).

You got that funny dictionary out again. The issue in this post has never been "erratic" driving. It has been flagrant abuse of and/or destruction of someone else's property. Swerving from one side of the lane to another; stopping suddenly for no apparent reason (without skidding); starting quickly (without spinning the tires)--these would be examples of "erratic" driving.

Saying that the companys "expect" the abuse and insure themselves to cover it is pretty lame, too. Do you justify shoplifting because the prices are raised to cover it?

It's that CHARACTER thing. Really simple.

And you want the government to trust us with guns...when rental car companies can't trust us with their vehicles?[:(][V]

most rentals never get anymore abuse than any other vehicle, have any of you never done a burn out?

the real thief is the rental company that resales these "abused" rental cars you guys speak of, while passing them off as good cars, knowing better

You either have ethics or you don't. I do. Who pays for the damage you do? I do. Who pays for what shoplifters steal? I do. Who would be the first to raise hell and complain about thieves if their property was ruined by an irresponsible crap head? You would 1911, phillip, sling blade,..well, you know who you are. You feel justified in destroying anything as long as it isn't yours, right? Let someone elses insurance take care of it, it ain't no skin off of your golden little ass, right? I won't call names, I won't call names,..I won't like crap..If you see things like that, you're a thief. If you mess with anything that belongs to me and I catch you, you'll be treated like a thief.

Go ahead mods, time to poof this one before I lose my temper and tell the thieves what I REALLY think of them.

    Who says anyone damaged anything?

If you rent camaros out to people on vacation, I'd venture to guess that 90% or more of people will do a burn out in them.

The cars are made for it. They are "sports cars". They're made to have fun in. If you don't want to do a burnout, rent an escort. They're more comfortable, and have trunk space.

I would rapid fire my own gun. So I might rapid fire a rental gun. Does that hurt them? I would NOT intentionally do a 180 in my own car. Therefore I would NEVER intentionally do a 180 in someone else's car. But that's just me...

We don't have to be alike. (Aren't you almost glad of that?)

Some people would do things that would land them in jail if caught, whether they got caught or not. Obviously, many do not get caught.

Some people would never do anything that would land them in jail if caught--whether they could get away with it or not.

That's why there are prisons full of one kind guarded by (mostly) the other kind.[:0]

done it one of my own cars, done many burnouts, 55mph downshift burnouts, haven't had a rental or a car i would do it in for a few years now, i drive the speed limit, and have for years, and as far as breaking the law, it is getting more harder everyday not to do with the government we have now intent on making law abiding citizens criminals, and when it comes to a thief i'm for cutting off a hand

I don't believe I have ever asked a rental car to do anything I wouldn't ask a car I owned to do.

I just don't abuse them or treat them different than something that I own.

But that is just me. Let me know who you rent from so I don't get stuck with something you rented.

I'm just guessing those weren't taken anywhere NEAR Leggio Road, eh? Not even on Progress Church Rd, I'll bet. Had to get way outta "town" for those. Even went beyond "P'hill."[:p][:o)][:I]

It's funny the way this post has progressed. It has gone from "I give rentals hell" and "no curb too high for a rental" and "drive 'em like they are stolen" to folks trying REALLY hard to justify their stupid ignorant inmature behavior by saying "I would never do anything in a rental I wouldn't do in my own car." When i was 17, yeah, I was inmature enough to to burn-outs and stupid stuff in my Charger. But guess what??? I GREW UP AND MATURED! I was taught and learned to respect other's property. Some folks on this board (and their wives) obviously haven't learned this lesson yet.

phillip, I can see you're very proud of yopur ability to push down a gas petal.Well, maybe you're right. That takes a real man. Even when a woman does it. Or then again, maybe it just shows what a spoiled little two year old brat you both are.

so as stated one childish act warrants several more in this thread alone

a simple i disagree and here is why would suffice, but for some strange reason members stoop even lower than they are accusing Phillip of being by name calling and insults, while patting themselves on the back for their "adult" approach
