Semi Auto 308 Opinions
I have the cash in hand to purchase a 308 semi auto.
Have looked at the Springfield M1A, DPMS, Armalite and would like to handle the Rock River Arms (have a 223 of theirs and love it). Do any of you have any of these out there and what are your likes/dislikes over them?

The Rock River Arms LAR-8 uses FAL mags and shoots 1 MOA at 100 yards. If you can afford it, that would be one of the best options, as far as accuracy goes. 0 -

Didn't Bushmaster make an AR10 style 308 that took FAL mags? I wasn't aware that Rock River made 1.
Everytime I see someone shooting AR10 style guns on the range, they are having jamming issues.
Personally I would go for the M1A or a .308 Saiga.0 -

RRA bought the rights to Bushmasters 308 when Bushy dropped them. Armalite is very nice and the DPMS LR 308 rifles are accurate. As far as the best I would go with an M1A. I have shot them all except the RRA and I prefer the feel of the M1A. I have a SS National Match and it flat out shoots. I am a big AR fan but the 308 rilfes either have mag problems or the cost of the mag is carzy. M1A mags are getting affordable. The M1A is a tougher rifle. 0 -

500.00 range I would get a Saiga 308, built on the AKdesign and very dependable.
1000.00 to 1200.00 range I would get the RRA 308.
1500.00 and up range I would get an M1A0 -
M1A = Classic US firearm. Accurate, inexpensive mags are avilable again.
FAL = Classic Nato firearm. Very inexpensive mags, reliable. If I was going to get a short .308 I would get a FAL.
DPMS = Modern design. Very accurate from what I hear. Low on complaints.
Armalite = Modern design. I have heard equal amounts of good and bad.
RRA = Don't know anything about this one.
POF is just came out with a nice .308. Very spendy but POF makes good stuff.
I have an M1A and a FAL. I want a short .308 too and will be getting a 16" FAL someday. Now is a good time to keep an eye on the gun boards for cheep .308 rifles. Lots of these rifles are for sale due to ammo prices people can not afford to feed them and are selling them.0 -

Are you talking about the BAR used in WW2 or the new hunting BAR. If you are talking about the WW2 bar it is in .30-06 just like the Garand and 1906.0 -

Ahhh. I knew Bushmaster dropped it didn't know RRA picked it up.

I own the m1A socom16 and the dpms, I like them both, but If were only able to have just one after haveing both, Id take the M1A. As far as all the others mentiond, I have no clue how they stack up to either.. 0 -
I had one of those Century Arms HK-91 clones and I loved it. pain in the ass to cock it though. I got it when they first came out, about $680. should be cheaper than the other options. 0 -
It was a pain to cock because it was mis-assembled. As many things made by CAI are.
I just finished up 6 G3 clone builds here, and each one is as easy to charge as the 1977 HK91 hanging on the wall.

I bought a 20 RD box of Remington .308 150 gr yesterday counting tax, it was $18.00. And that was Wally World. I do usually buy my ammo from my Dealer but wasnt headed that way and his prices would be far greater Im sure because he cant buy it for what they can. 0 -
