Secret Societies
As the avid history buff I am, I've noticed alot of shows on the History Channel about secret societies lately. It's my opinion that the various secret sociteties like the freemasons, skull and bones, knights templar, ect... are not evil and conspiring to take over the world. I'm sure they have a kind of power, but that only makes me want in [:D]. I respect the views of many people on this forum and wondered what your take on these organisations is? Are they really trying to take over the world or are they simply a complex "good old boys" network of people they know they can trust?

heres a twist...how about gated communities? theyre more secret than secret sects and organizations. see, clubs meet then disperse. but communites commune. they live together.
thus a true serect community is one that doesnt allow you to see

I can only speak concerning Indiana, since each state's Grand Lodge is autonomous of the rest, but here the only reason a Mason would refuse to divulge info about dues, meeting dates and times, etc would be because he enjoys the notion of "secrecy" that the ignorant -- including many Masons -- attribute to Freemasonry. Official policy is that pretty much any questions, except those concerning our rituals and the business/personal affairs of the Lodge and its members, can and should be answered honestly.
The "secrecy" in regard to our business and personal affairs needs no explanation. Common courtesy dictates you not ask people questions like that to begin with. As for our rituals -- I am sworn (not by blood, but on the Holy Bible) to aid my brother Masons in their distress, even to the point of possibly losing my own life. While I would assist anyone to the best of my ability, with a brother Mason who makes himself and his need known to me, it's a holy vow. In our rituals we're reminded of the various means by which a Mason is able to make himself known to a brother. Make those rituals public and we open the door to swindlers, who, as is well known, love nothing better than to be able to demand the sympathy and financial help of decent people, then disappear with the proceeds. My Lodge has been, within the time I've been a member, swindled to the tune of several thousand dollars, by someone who knew the right words and gestures and had a very, very sad story of loss and woe to tell us.
I enjoy conspiracy theories. Great fun. A few years back I was looking for the Cold Steel knife company on the 'net and typed in .org or .com when I should have typed in the other. I accessed a website called Cold Steel that took into account the fact that many of our founding fathers (Washington, Franklin, Revere, Warren, etc.) were Masons, and drew the conclusion that the entire founding of the United States of America was and is a Masonic plot to establish the kingdom of Satan on earth.
I feel so -- wicked. And dirty. Very dirty.
I also like the claim, in a book entitled "The New World Order" and written, I believe, in the 1920's or very early 1930's, that Masons, Jewish bankers, and German businessmen were conspiring to establish the -- you guessed it -- New World Order. Guess the Germans in the plot regretted their evil schemes and cleansed their consciences by murdering some six million of their co-conspirators and anyone else unfortunate enough to get in the way, within a decade of the book's having been written -- which didn't stop Pat Robertson from using it as the inspiration for his own masterpiece, entitled, in a display of stunningly original thought, "The New World Order".
But, as I've been told by a number of people, the simple fact that I deny and mock the idea of my fraternity being involved in a global conspiracy, is proof that the conspiracy exists. As it would also be proof if I were to admit it.... All I know is, if I'm helping to take over the world, you'd think I'd find it easier to pay the bills every month.

Being a Medieval history buff ever since I read "Ivanhoe" in the 5th grade, I've read or watched everything I could on the Knights Templar. Interesting history, largely romanticized.
While I do believe that IF the Knights Templar had discovered the "True Grail," that the Christian Church wouldn't go out of their way to surpress that information, however that is a big old "if."
They were slaughtered because they were smart enough to create an international banking system, and had more jingle than most European nations of the time.0 -
