Secret Societies
As the avid history buff I am, I've noticed alot of shows on the History Channel about secret societies lately. It's my opinion that the various secret sociteties like the freemasons, skull and bones, knights templar, ect... are not evil and conspiring to take over the world. I'm sure they have a kind of power, but that only makes me want in [:D]. I respect the views of many people on this forum and wondered what your take on these organisations is? Are they really trying to take over the world or are they simply a complex "good old boys" network of people they know they can trust?

How can they be "secret" if everybody knows about them? There is a "behind the scenes" government that is there for anyone that does the least research to see. Conspiracy? It's more like powerful, responsible men manipulating world events, hopefully for the overall good(?) of the planet. It's beyond naivete to think that the most powerful men in finance and industry don't have extreme influence on the management of World affairs. No surprise that many of them belong to the same organizations, no coincidence either. Running the show is a big job, somebody has to do it, and they are. 0 -
It is not the existance of these organizations that is SECRET, it is their rituals and most of their doctrines. According to some "Churches" and "Groups" if you belong to one of the "Secret" organizations you are a representative of the "DEVIL" . More Superstition.[:0] Kinda like years ago people who deviated from the "Norm" were cast as Heritics and the Church Burned em at the stake. 0 -
Dude, they all have bars in the lodges/meeting rooms/whatever. They keep them secret so their wives don't find out. 0 -

Classic, the rituals and doctrines aren't secret either. If they were how would anyone know they exist, if indeed they do. It seems a cottage industry has sprung up exploiting the publics unawareness of how the World functions and who the main manipulators are. Though conspiracies do occur in the larger picture, to label the overall machinations and goals of the powerful a "conspiracy" is somewhat of a misnomer. These powers do wield an enormous influence on World events. As I've stated, someone has to do it. Can it be any other way?0 -

I can tell you for a fact that what you see on A&E and the discovery channel is a real joke to someone that really knows the real secrets.[;)] WE sit and laugh at it all the time.

Secret societies are fraturnities for guys with hyper-extended adolescences.
The "A" in the masonic symbol stands for algebra. If that is the kind of secret and arcane knowledge that appeals to you, please, be my guest, it is pretty harmles and may well contribute to some public service.0 -
The rituals of some lodges are kept secret until a rat deserting the ship decides to give em up. Most of the stuff as seen on the history channel is a joke.
My father was a 32nd degree mason and also a Knight templar, and I was a member of the Demolay, and my mother was an eastern star (womans equiv of masons).
We were sworn to secrecy as to what happened at the meetings and the innercore of the society..
When the methodist church found out my father belong to those two organizations we were ask to leave the church..0 -

My high school girlfriend's Dad was a Mason (and he was a womanizing drunk) and her Mom was a member of the Eastern star (and she was one of the biggest b***hes that ever walked the earth. And many of the other Masons and their wives were just as bad. My girlfriend and most of her friends were Rainbow Girls. They would have their cute little Rainbow Girl meetings and pray and all that. Then us guys would pick our girlfriends up and they would get the biggest kick out of having sex in the meeting place while still wearing their fancy virginal white dresses. What a joke that whole thing was. 0 -

I'm a Golden Dawn member, but regardless what group I belong to, like minded men have more power when they work together, and I'm sure that was at the core of all the "secret" societies. 0 -
Members of real secret organizations forget vital information like motto's and "secret handshakes" immediately after they learn it, just to keep the secret dead. 0 -

The dues at my Masonic Lodge are $45/year.
I will be on a pension in a couple of years and plan to continue my active membership until I die.
