air guns
What does it take to kill a squrrel at up to 25 yds?
ft per second? 1000---1200? or more?
which is the best brand?
What kind of pellets? 177?
Can I do this for under 200.00?
Cant use 22 in city limits, nusance problem at office, tree rats must die.

Have had a Sheridan Silver Streak or MANY years. As a kid killed squires, crows, rabbits and 1 time a pheasant! Very accurate rifle. Had it refurbished once and shoots just as well as it did when I was a kid. More recently a Russian IZH-46M target pistol which works great on sparrows. Fun guns. 0 -

22cb in a rifle. No noise and they are dead. Don0 -
.22 or .20 cal both do alot better job
both weigh twice what .177 cal pellets do and get better penetration
well placed .177 will kill at 25yds, but I really like a 20 better(and it will drop them cold)
Bejamin Sheridan is the best. and well under your price0 -
if you get a run-of-the-mill bb gun, it ain't gonna go much faster than 800 fps with a bb. pellets go slower. I don't know what that will do to a squirrel. you can get a crosman that will do 900 fps with a bb for about 35$ with scope.
if you want to get something more powerful that can make a .177 pellet go 1000-1200 fps, you're gonna pay for it, probably 250$ on up to 500$. that's a whole nother class of air rifles, and they don't shoot bbs, only pellets, and they do go around 1200 fps. they also make .22 pellet guns that cost about the same.
so if you want to do it for under 200$, if a bb gun can't do it, the answer is no.0 -
I have killed 100's of squirells, all with airguns $40-$120quote:Originally posted by buschmaster

A wrist rocket and some small ball bearings will do the trick an it will only cost you about $12. That is my preferance. Happy hunting. 0 -

CB caps in a bolt rifle.
They make less noise than my pellet gun.0 -
#1 Dont listen to buschmaster
#2 get a pellet rifle not a bb rifle.
#3 25yrds and out any cal. will do.But if you want a quick kill go .20 or higher,.177 good for very small rodents 25yrds and closer.
#4 sound..do you have neighbors? a spring rifle is pretty loud a pcp
(pre charged) can sound like a 22 rim fire, and a multi pump will be your best bet in town.
#5 A multi pump 20-22 cal pellet rifle can run you $55 and up.
#6 This is the must...go hit a air gun forum and ask the same.I would love to give you a list of forums just email me, if I post them on GB they will get pist.
#7 Dont listen to buschmaster!!!!
I have a Turkish made winchester in .177 800fps good to 50yrds
strong kill on pigeons.
Also a Tallon Condor in .22 24" walther barrel,300fps-1650fps
good to 125yrds out and kill a deer at 55yrds.But it is as loud as a 22 going off.
I also have the same with a 12" barrel its called a SS Tallon that will take a squirel out of a tree at 75yrds clean. And the only thing you hear is the slap of the hammer.
So if you just want to wack a squirel any pellet rifle at 25yrds will
do at any cal. ie. .177,20,22 and .25.
NEVER HUNT WITH BB'S
And last is your pellet choice, it makes all the difference just as powder gun rounds!0 -

Hit him in the heart lung area or head, get some pointed or steel cored hunting pellets for penetration.... anything above 700 FPS should do the job reliably. 0 -
I have killed squirrels, rabbits, skunks, and feral cats with my old Benjamin .22 pump. Maximum recommended was 12 pumps. I don't know how many fps it was, but it was pretty effective as long as head shots were taken. 0 -
Yes, CB Caps or Aguilla Colibris will do. They can also get you arrested in the city (Discharge of firearm in city limits) Check the auction sites for a Sheridan Blue Streak pellet rifle in 5mm (20 cal) you can kill squirrels at 40 yds. EXTREMELY accurate. USed, should run you $150 or less. Have used one when we needed to quietly kill pigeons (disease issue) The 22 CO2 guns did not always drop them with one shot- the Sheridan hit them like a lightning bolt. Forget BBs- 20 or 22 cal pellet. Hunting pellets- not target. 0 -

Pellets are the only way to go your higher fps airguns. problem is the go to far because of the rifling . a shot could go astray, an hits a person in the eye or worse.A BB puts out eyes, a pellet could kill a person if it hits in the right spot. Most cities have outlawed shooting them in the limits.I got squirls messin with my dog making him bark all day long and retired neigbors pissed off cause it messen up their 11.00 nap. I use a Daisy model 1000. Its a single cocking Squirl elliminator at 1000 fps. especially since I put a laser on it with a scope. I Dont miss a single shot. I use to use varmit rounds with a point, it was going thru them to clean. They would run 20 feet then die. I recommend a hollow point 177. It flat out knocks them down dead. Head shots especially, body shots no problem. with a hollow point it stays with them and doesnt go traveling somewhere you dont want it to. with that distinct "PLAP" sound you know their toast. I site them in through the scope with the laser cause its tough to see on sunny days. otherwise id be shootin them from the hip with just the laser. Laser, scope, hollow point. That will get r done. hope that helps Tony ps. my neighbors are sleeping quite soundly now. 0 -
I got one of those cheap ($20) chinese pellet rifles from www.Cumminstools.com, shoots around 900fps and is surprisingly accurate, the factory sites are decent but I fitted mine with a BSA reddot it'll kill a large black bird with ease and I have killed a few squirrles with it as well. I shoot Premier brand hollow point pellets. You might want to go with one that has a point or dome, the HPs I use hit very hard but sometimes they lack good penetration. 0 -
Thanks guys, helped alot, got neighbors and local laws concerning the discharging fire arms in the town limits, tree rats are a pain in the butt. 0 -

For $200 you can get a scoped Benjamin Sheridan from Cabelas
Much better than the .177 RWS I have still killed dozens of squirrels with0 -
me wrong? your linkie no workie [:o)]
a .177 at 1000 fps is better than a .20 at 700 fps, much flatter shooting and about as much power0 -
silly rabbit, a .20 cal pellet weighs twice (15gr vs 7-8gr) what a .177 weighs, and kills much more consistantly. .177 will not reliably drop torso shot squirrels , while a .20 will
I used to sell airguns, and have only killed a few hundred squirrels with them0 -
vhat? check this, fudd!
Beeman Pellet Comparison table
http://www.beeman.com/pellcomp.htm
the .177's range from 6.5 to 11.5 gr,
the .20's range from 9.9 to 15.5 gr,
looks like the median .177 is about 8 gr, median .20 is about 11 gr
using the equation K=1/2*M*V^2,
8 gr. .177's at 1000 fps get about 4,000,000 ft-grains,
11 gr. .20's at 700 fps get about 2,695,000 ft-grains
or let's do a table
.177 cal@1000fps,
6.5 gr = 3,250,000
8.0 gr = 4,000,000
11.5 gr = 5,750,000
.20 cal@700fps,
9.9 gr = 2,425,500
11 gr = 2,695,000
15.5 gr = 3,797,500
hhmm... the .177 has more power.0
