Maybe religion can be more dangerous?

Some people veiw the world from a small bubble and anything outside that bubble frightens them.

Why is it that a member here was so offended about a remark about the Catholic church that he left and said he would never use the auction side again,.
All I can say is join the club. Athiests remark about Christians. Christians remark about athiests. Soldiers remark about Muslims.

People need to quit being so easily offended.

Religion causes more fights, and death in this world than crime.

"Beliefs" are simply more important to some than to others. Personally, I believe it's time for a bloody mary (it's too early for a beer). [:p][:D]

    That sounds a good idea.

Who was that? Sorry I missed it, I tend to shy away from the religion topics. Not because I don't want to join in the fray, but mainly because my faith is my own and I don't feel the need to express it to everyone (unless they ask me personnally) and I really don't care what other people think of it.

Maybe it's because murder is not offensive, and religion is - to Gun Broker members.

We weren't discussing religion anymore....we were discussing hypocracy

It's simple. I try to follow the posting guidlines. Therefore, a topic on religion is no problem as long as there is no arguing and name-calling. When the arguing and name-calling starts somethings needs to be done.

A thread about murder also does not violate the posting guidelines. It may be of questionable taste, but is not prohibited as far as I know. As long as there is no arguing and name-calling the thread goes on. So does a thread about religion if everyone remains civil which I am not sure is possible when discussing that topic.

I am not imposing my sensibilities on anyone. I am trying to follow the guidelines.

    Have I answered your question?

The harshest name I called anyone on that (Mother Teresa)thread was "a piece of work". Appearently that was the reason it was locked and subsequently deleted....

Guess I was being too harsh....personally I thought it was about as civil a disagreement as I could make

If I knew the thread was going to be be poofed anyways, I'd have come up with something more colorful

    Frank -

If what you believe is true, the posting guidelines need to be revisited by those who can make alterations to them.

Thank you for protecting me, Frank.

easy. look who's in on the argument, who's doing the thread-locking and who's getting the last word.

doesn't anyone else see the irony in it all?

even on the scale of a Internet forum religion causes more arguments than politics in a single thread, and more people get offended easier than all other subjects combined, more name calling and ignorance

i find it even more funny that the christian "sub" faiths {baptist vs. pentecostal etc.} can't even agree with each other, not even on baptism

buschmaster- I assume you are not talking about me because I wasn't in on the argument and I didn't "have the last word."

I did lock the thread because it was a continuing argument and those get locked. But I added nothing to the discussion and did not express an opinion on the topic I only stated that I was locking it. Believe it or not this does NOT constitute "having the last word."

Find a new baseless accusation, please, that one is getting so old it's turning gray. [:o)]

And why; Pray tell, do you have the urge to follow the rules? Huh? Just what thought process did you use to even think that following the rules was a reasonable idea. The unmitigated gall of some folks. Jeez; someone enforcing the rules. What will happen next? Do you think Zombies will come for us all? Will big brother protect us from them? Life really is like a box of chocolates, so is opening a thread on this forum. [;)]

RO- I don't understand what you would disagree with me about. I stated that I locked it after posting the reason and that I did not join the discussion.

Did I get some fact wrong?

Did I not lock the thread with no more comment than why it was being locked?

Was I in fact participating in the discussion when I recall that I was not?

    Where's the disagreement?

    Sheeesh...

    Doug...

Its because the religious thread usually has questions that cant be answered by the so called faithful.....and then they usually start the name calling....

Murder threads are okay ....doesnt involve them other than to the point of what they would like to do to the non beliveres..

All you whining cry babies make me laugh. For the love of Pete; just start another thread under a new topic heading and continue bashing each other until hell freezes over-OR- the topic gets locked.

    Get the idea? [:D]

SP: I never said my disagreement was with you.

ECC made a blanket statement that would offend most Catholics. I called him on it....my harshest statement was to call him a "piece of work". That thread was deleted.

Shortly thereafter, a thread directed at me was posted by ECC.

    http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=261007

As soon as I responded (with no name calling) the thread was locked....

Guess I shouldn't expect certain folks around here to take heat for making controversial posts....oh well
