thinking of becoming X NRA Life member
I'm tired of the NRA suits,especally Wayne Lapieare doing nothing except wanting money,so they can go on Safari,and giving away my 2nd Ammendment Rights. i have called e mailed and written them and never get any reply. i think the GOA has lots more intrest in our rights than the nra. i have been a member for over 30 years, but i think it's about time to change organizations.

If you use spell check and proper punctuation it would carry more weight for your points in writing to the NRA.
It is a painful lesson to learn at my advancing age, but is is true. I wish many times that the ability to put a thought on paper came as fast as the thought does.

I'm personally sick of being begged for cash 3 times a week by the NRA. Then I see the agreeing to restrict my second amendment rights and it just ticks me off. Maybe they would understand if they lost some cash that they need to change their ways and stop any further laws and start taking some ground back especially in Chicago, New York, and California.
I do agree to being a memeber of GOA and NRA, but I think NRA needs to be put in their place by their memebers exactly like how the polititions need to feel the power of the people.0 -
NRA has squandered any trust from me. I became a life member of the NRA quite some time ago, before I learned of their sordid past and current smarmy activities. Since they already have my $$ for the life membership, they are stuck with me and my criticisms of their actions.[;)]
I remain a thorn in their side from within. Doesn't do much good, but it does give me a certain sense of satisfaction.[:o)]
Shame on me for falling for the NRA line of "supporting and defending your Second Amendment Rights". I failed to research until too late.
I became a life member of GOA when I became enlightened.
If the Life-Members of The NRA would join GOA or JPFO, and the annual and 3 year members of NRA would bail out and flock to GOA or JPFO, we, as gun-rights watchdogs, would be far better off.0 -
i would like very much to belong to all the pro gun organizations,however i think the NRA officials are more intrested in playing politics than our rights and are drifting the wrong way. bpost 1958, i do know i am not a master of the english language, perhaps some day you would be kind enough to learn me. 0 -

I'm a member, have been for a lot of years.
You can't change an organization like that from the outside. Let the other folks (Ted Nugent, Oliver North, the executive comittesknow what is on your mind. Don't go off on a rant. Clearly state your feelings. Run for office yourself and change things.
The NRA has a lot of faults and problems but it is the best thing we have going for us right now in DC. Probably the only game in town that has any effect on the gun grabbers.
Call the NRA and tell them what you think about them begging for money. They used to do me that way too, called them and told them that they were wasting resources and to spend their funds in more productive ways as I was not going to send them money no matter how hard they beg. Reduce the payments to their executives, be a little more mindful as to how they spend what they get and do like me, make do with what I got.0 -

A couple months ago I joined the GOA. Just 2 days ago I emailed the NRA and told them NEVER another penny due to their support of the McCarthy-Dingle bill.
I don't plan on withdrawing - I paid my Life Membership and I figure they owe me the magazine every month.0 -

Life member since 1965 so I guess I got my $100 worth in magazines alone. Frankly I expect them to agree to reasonable legislation.
If all you do is say no to everything you will never have any input.
I am surprised that I haven't had any of the solisitations for quite a while. Maybe the fact that I never sent them anything finally sank in. I know they spent a lot more than my $100 trying over the years.0 -

When you see names like Carolyn McCarthy, John Dingell, Sarah Brady, Chuck Schumer, Teddy Kennedy, and the rest of the Who's Who of the anti-gun movement supporting a bill, you KNOW it can't be good for gun owners. Then along comes the NRA and SUPPORTS this very same bill? This one is going to wake up some gun owners about the NRA, no matter how pretty of a package the NRA tries to wrap this one in.
Thank you internet, we can get more than ONE SIDE of the story these days.

I wonder if the NRA is reading this. More and more NRA members and non member progunners know the NRA is not doing its job. And needing more members and more money is not the reason for the NRA's poor job performance. The NRA is just another big bueracracy who's pay checks come from NRA investments. And really don't care what we think.
The NRA doesn't take my phone calls anymore, not because I was rude or anything. I would just inquire if they filed any law suites. The answers were always the same. I would be given, over the phone, a list of what I was told were NRA law suites. None of those law suites were in fact filled by the NRA. And when I would point out that those law suites were cases where some poor smuck was arrested for violating some illegal law. And all the NRA did was to walk into court and file a friend of the court brief and leave the poor smuck to his own defences and of course the bills. I would then say that the NRA should shepard these cases through the courts like the aclu does and then we could get these illegal laws elimenated. The NRA would say they were sorry I felt that way and conversation would then be ended by the NRA.

I have come to terms with the fact that the NRA is a gun industry lobbying organization, not a gun rights organization. If you have ever attended an NRA convention you will find that it is primarily a trade show.
I enjoy reading American Rifleman and I get a discount on my car insurance as an NRA member, so I will continue to send them my $25 (there are lots of organizations that offer $10 discount memberships) for now.0 -
I have had an issue with the NRA since a bunch of their 'senior members' purchased a ranch in Blackleaf Canyon, Montana and denied access to the mountain behind the ranch that had been there since the original family owned the ranch had always allowed access to public lands behind them.
This is typical practice though and I've been told to get off public roads in Central Nevada because that road led to calving grounds(never heard of October calving on BLM land that closes to grazing in Nov{1}. I just don't like to see people take money to protect one facet of the constitution then abuse another part of it so they can have exclusive elk hunting.0 -
Once a life member, always a member, at least that is what they told me when I wanted to cancel my membership. You have to use the "dont call me, I will call you" approach and get off their mailing and calling list. I have not received any dunns for money in 3 years from them even though I have to renew my certifications on some things every year. 0 -
I contacted the Whittington Center in N.M. about hunting there. I was told if i wanted to pay $5 to $6 thousand dollars i would be welcome to hunt the NRA land (that is suspose to belong to the members) but if i did not or could not pay, i could not hunt on they're land. I thought the land was bought with each members money so each member would have a chance to use the property, man, was i wrong. 0 -

For over 20 years I was a member, I watched the Kennedy 1968 gun law go in. I still didn't realize they the NRA were Crookes. but it did wake me up a little bit, so kept a close eye on them and guess what, they don't do any thing for gun owners. so quit them several years ago. I still have some old friends that think the NRA is great. 0 -
I don't agree with everything the NRA does but I try to vote for the people in NRA that I think feel the way I do.
Like another member said, if you don't like what they are doing, make sure you vote for someone that feels like you do. Or run for one of the positions in the NRA yourself.
There are some very pro-constitution members but you do need to do a little homework, and I admit that I am at times lacking in knowledge of those running.
It would be better if everyone only voted for those they actually KNOW to be pro-constitution instead of picking 25 or whatever number people out of the list (if that is the most amount that you can vote for) when they send you your ballot. That way you would not be voting for those that might not agree with your position. I am not ready to give up on the NRA yet and while it is great if you belong to other pro-gun org's, don't give up on the most powerful one.
And if you don't vote for the NRA officers, you shouldn't complain if they don't do what you want.0 -
Just got a call from an NRA rep. He played a minute long speech from Wayne Lapieare about McCarthy. Not only do I get 2-3 letters each week asking for more contributions to the ILA, I'm now getting phone calls on Sunday!! 0 -

I have tried many times to get off of their e-mail lists,......they just keep sending them, also from the ILA division.
But,........when I ask them a question, I have yet to get a response worthy of even having written the letter! Canned response, at best.
I must get something in the mail from them 3 times a week. No wonder they always need money![;)]0 -

I am simply pointing out some things to you.
If you expect your arguements to have credibilty when dealing with anyone it is very important to do at least a sixth grade job in your communications with them.
I happen to be a Patron member to the NRA. I send letters and make calls trying to make sure our money is spent in an effective manner. Every letter I have written was responded to and answers were made to my questions.
I receive NO CALLS, EVER, from the NRA and get only one mailing every month or so. Maybe it is the effective communications of my wants and needs that win the day.0 -
One could communicate on an English major level with them and STILL get hounded for money....It does not matter to them one way or the other...
As for most of us, when we write our letters etc, we do make sure it is written correctly, but for the forum?....who cares, you will get slapped down no matter how or what you post...0 -
I am all done with them too. NO MORE MONEY FROM ME! They can't even reply to a letter, email or phone call from me. I guess I am lower than whale crap to them........ 0
